Passat (B6) :: Oil Change Service Warning
Jul 31, 2007
So I have two things I want to "fix" on my Passat:
1) Is there a way to turn off the "oil change" service warning message permanently? The dealer can do it but they want $46 every time And there is no way I will do that. I change the oil and filter myself.
2) When I lock my car the lights flash and the horn honks, is there a way to turn off the horn?

So I just got my oil change and the "service now" warning did not turn off. Can I do that myself or not?

So I did my own oil change for the first time instead of taking it to a shop. Now I have the service warning indicator that comes on in the MFD every time I start the car. Is there any way to reset the interval warning indicator without a vag com or taking it to a dealer/ind. shop?

I checked the cables, no corrosion and tight as a drum. I connected an OBD II computer to the plug under the dashboard and the computer replied that there were no trouble codes present. Is OBDII the proper code reader? none of these lights were on before I replaced the battery. now I have constant ABS, flashing Service ride control, change engine oil. The battery has not gone dead as of yet but the ampmeter is charging at about 16.5-17 volts. I disconnected the pos terminal while the vehicle was running and it continued to run even with the lights on.

I have a 2004 W8 Passat wagon. I just went over 60,000 miles and was wondering how to reset the service warning for coolant servicing.

So the service reminder came on this past Saturday, went to the dealer and had them check it out. No issues and they said they reset it. I was driving home last night and it came back on. Should I be concerned the reminder came back on? The car ahs 18K miles and the 20K service was done prior to me purchasing the car. Vehicle is a 2012 Passat SE.

Circumstances required me to make an emergency trip to Phoenix this week. On the way down, I first got the "Oil change soon" warning, followed by the "Oil change required" message a few hundred miles later.
I religiously keep my truck serviced on time, and have never had either of these warnings come up before. My truck had 2700 miles on it since last service was done when this first warning came up. My truck gets very little idle time, so it's not sitting idling for hours a day.
My question is, is this oil change message a result of an actual oil monitoring sensor that measures oil quality on-the-fly, or is it strictly based on a miles or odometer timer that gets reset when dealer changes the oil?
At this point I'm wondering if the kid that serviced my truck either forgot to reset a timer, or worse, just "pencil whipped" my oil change. I have to call my home dealer back, since the service manager wasn't in yet when I called.

I have a 2003 pontiac grand am gt 3.4. About 5 days ago my change oil light came on and did not have time to do it at that point. Then 1 day later my service vehicle soon light came on, I thought it was due to the change oil light being on. Then next day, I changed my oil and pushed the reset button in, let the light flash then held it in until the change oil light went out. But my service vehicle light stayed on, took it to AutoZone and they put the scanner on it and the scanner did not show one thing wrong. So I had him clear the code and the light stayed of for about 10 seconds then came right back on! Is it a faulty issue or what?

Just had my 20,000 mile service yesterday on my Prius Plug In and got 10-15mpg loss in gas mileage today. It seems like ECO mode isn't even working anymore because MPG just drops to 15 MPG when you accelerate pass the half way point.
I'll take it back to dealership tomorrow? It should have only been a oil change and oil filter change. Reading some old threads makes me thing they put in the wrong oil?? It says 0W20 on service contract but not sure if correct.

I've had my Golf Wagon for over 2 years. A week ago it started giving me the service warning every time I start. service in 4000 miles or 350 days. I had a dealer done oil change, took a 5000 mi road trip, came home, and now this happens every time I start my car.
I feel I could turn it off via vag com, but I also feel like I've crossed in a parallel universe. as every post just tells people how to "reset"... can't find anything about on/off or its sudden appearance out of nowhere! and I can't for mysterious reasons, post on other forums.
did the dealer do something via vag com? did my co-driver hit some weird combo of buttons?

My "service ride control" warning came on today. I have searched the forum and all I find is about air shocks. My 2002 3/4 ton Suburban has the electronic shocks, no air. Is there a common problem I should check? It is the first really cold day we have had, if that means anything.

I have a 2006 with 155k miles. I took it into the dealer for a mini service this week. Drove home after the service was complete, then drove to work yesterday. On the way home an alarm sounded and the red triangle light with !, the break system light (O) with !, the VSC light and the engine CHECK light came on.
A friend used his scanner to read the error code for me and it reported a "p0a80" code. What does this code mean? Replace the hybrid battery?

Well when it rains it pours. As I was picking up my truck from the dealer for the brake master cylinder issue I noticed some faults come up on the display as I got into my truck. It was a Hill Descent Control Fault and a Service AdvanceTrac warnings on the dash. I told the service write about them and had already cleared them thinking it was a fluke alert from the servicing they did. Well they have come back in and after some searching I hear that when we get these alerts the solution was Ford having to replace the entire steering rack??!!

Recently had an oil change. On the way home the ABS warning lights came on. Next day I realized cruise control didn't work. Today I realized battery is not charging/recharging when I apply brakes and tonight I realized energy monitor screen is not working.

Strange thing happened yesterday. After changing my oil as I left my friends house I had a couple weird indicator lights. ABS warning, the yellow indicator next to that ((!)) and the traction control light were all lit and solid. Brakes felt a little unusual. Less sensitive than normal but working fine....
I pulled out of his driveway, then went about 20 feet and pulled over. Shut the car completely off, turned it back on and all was normal.
The exclamation indicator was not lit nor Check engine and no messages were displayed. No beeping . It's almost like I had the car in some kind of brake test mode or something.
Here's what I did before I left his house:
While on jack stands I changed my oil. While it was still up on jacks I turned on the car to run the engine for a moment. (I put it in neutral to let it run for about 1 minute.) No leaks .. buttoned up the car, put it back on the ground. Filled oil to the top line and ran the engine again for maybe 30 seconds. Everything normal. Then I had it in "ON" mode while I checked my tire air pressure. (I had a warning indicator about that.) Once I had tires correct I put the car in ready mode. All indicators off and normal. Shut off car then had it in accessory for a little while. (Listening to radio) It was after this I left his house..... So I definitely cycled the car on and off several times.

Past cars have always had a change oil warning system. Usually there's a button under the hood or a certain sequence of pressing the brake to "reset" the oil life monitor. Does the Elantra have any such thing. I didn't see anything about it in the manual.
