Passat (B6) :: Odd Noise When Gas Is Let Off And Car Decelerates Without Engaging Brakes

Jan 23, 2008

So I took my car in last Tues (Jan 15) to get an oil change. I mentioned that whenever I let off the gas and let the car decelerate without engaging the brakes I hear an odd noise. The noise is more pronounced at lower gears, but there were no special conditions that I wouldn't hear it. After a couple of hours, they tell me that my catalytic converter needs to be replaced, something about it being loose.

Camry 2012+ :: Car Feels Like Brakes Are Pressed When Coasting / Decelerates Faster Than Normal

My 2012 camry recently had an issue with the acceleration that I took to the dealer and they drain and filled the transmission fluid 3 times and it fixed that.

There is still one issue which I'm not sure is normal or not - when I let the car coast by letting off the gas the car feels like the brakes are being pressed and it decelerates faster than normal. Also, my e-brake seems less tight than before so it doesn't really stop the car from going back when I park it unless I push it really hard.

Subaru - Brakes - Outback :: Anti-lock Braking System Engaging Noise When Speed Gets Low 5 - 15 MPH

I recently had my wheel hub and bearing replaced. The mechanic said I might hear a little noise with the brakes but they'd work. Turns out that noise is the Anti-lock braking system engaging every time I use the brakes. It happens when the car speed gets low, maybe 5-15 mph. Also, if I'm driving slow in a parking lot or something, and let off the gas, that change in speed sets the ABS system on too, without my foot being on the brake pedal.

I've also noticed sometimes when the weather is very cold, the ABS light will go on and the ABS brakes won't work; just regular brakes. Is this something that I'd be able to solve at home? Could I possibly bleed the brake lines to check for any air ( although braking seems fine ) , busted fuse for the system, anything else to check before asking the mechanic?

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2013 - Humming Noise From Engine When Accelerate Or Car Decelerates

New Sonata GL owner. Just picked it up last week and I love the car. Great drive, great features. Only thing is I am noticing that there's a humming noise from the engine whenever I accelerate and when the car decelerates. It's not really noticeable during the day when the streets are busy and I'm listening to the radio etc., but at night when I'm driving on quiet streets its quite audible and it almost sounds like Diesel engine.

I read a few threads on this and people have attributed it to the direct fuel injection - is this humming sound normal? Do all sonatas sound like this? Or should I go back to the dealership and get it checked out?

Golf/GTI VI :: Brakes Engaging In Reverse

I replaced my rear pads on Sunday and the car drives and brakes great. This morning I noticed when I backed into my parking spot at work that the brakes were engaging to the point where I was on a small incline and the car didn't roll at all when I let off the brake pedal.

This was my first time doing the rear pads on my MKVI and my first time doing brakes on a VW. Is there some extra step required that I'm missing? I know the piston was a PITA, definitely not used to having to turn a piston while compressing.

Buick - Lacrosse :: 2007 - Brakes Not Engaging When Reversing And Car Is Cold

The brakes on my 2007 LaCrosse do not feel like they are engaging when I am reversing and the car is cold (first thing in the morning or first thing after work). The pedal feels very stiff/hard and the car doesn't feel like the brakes are stopping it. Every time I apply the brakes after that first time, they behave fine. I had the front brakes repaired/replaced but the problem persists.

Ford - F150 :: 1984 - Brakes Are Slowing And Steadily Engaging Without Depressing

I have a 1984 Ford F150, has about 110,000 miles on it, been a outstanding vehicle. Recently, after I drive if for about 15 minutes, the vehicle feels like it's dragging something, like the brakes are slowing and steadily engaging without depressing them. And, along with this, a chemical odor is present. And if it is the master cylinder, does it make sense to repair considering the age of the vehicle and worth?

Golf/GTI VI :: 2011 - Selective Brakes Intermittently Engaging When Grip Is Adequate

2011 GTI (65k miles). Selective brakes intermittently engaging when grip is adequate. Only happens at speed (>50 mph) when turning, most often with change in pitch (uphill/downhill). Traction light flashes. Happens when ESP on or off, wet or dry. Plenty of tread on (snow) tires. Mild bearing noise has persisted for >20k miles. Two dealers and one third-party shop couldn't find anything wrong, including with bearings. No stored faults.

My suspicion: slow (non-critical) bearing failure causing bad ABS sensor signal/fault, causing ABS/ESP engagement, especially with change in pitch. Related but simpler: ABS sensor failure or bad connection. Pulling fuses?

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Forcefully Stop And Feels As Though Only Front Brakes Are Engaging

I have had this happen the last couple times I use my car in the cold. It has been around 25-30 F and when I pull out of my driveway the first time/maybe second time I touch the brakes it forcefully stops and feels as though only the front brakes are engaging. As I drive the car that trip it has yet to happen and the brakes preform normally. I am not used to disk brakes and I am thinking it is maybe that? The only other thing I could think of is that the brakes need to warm up a bit and pressing them still cold illicit that jerked response. I have read through a number of threads on brakes and I cannot seem to find this happening.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Intermittent Clunk When Engaging Brakes During Reverse Maneuvers

I've noticed an intermittent clunk which occurs when engaging the hydraulics brakes during reverse maneuvers. It happens with anything from very light to very heavy brake force and typically will happen before driving very far (backing out of driveway, out of parking spot, etc) but does not happen after driving (backing INTO driveway or parking spot). This has been occurring for a while now with no other symptoms (other than some shudder during take off which I attribute to a sloppy transmission bushing).

Front brakes were in great shape when I r&r them a while back to turn the rotors, didn't pull the rears apart but they look good, and I don't have any brake vibrations or issues when moving forward. I can't rule out a driveline clunk or suspension clunk either but the u-joints don't have any slop in them and no squirrely handling issues either.

Passat (B6) :: New Grinding Noise From Brakes?

Just bought some new tires (Michelin Pilot Exalta A/S) and we've been getting a lot of rain/snow in Chicago and I'm just thinking its the brakes getting wet and kind of rusting. I drive local and less than 1 mile every other day. When I brake it sounds like the brakes are grinding. Almost like the sound your brakes make after a heavy rain fall and when your car sits for the day. It grinds a bit.

That's what my guess is. The tires are new and have a little noise when slowing down and turning slow. Basically I know I don't need new brakes. Just checked them about a month ago.

Passat (B5) :: Constant Noise Just When Apply Brakes In Reverse

I have a dry metal on metal squawk noise when I reverse, I have taken it to a VW dealer, and they say "there is nothing wrong", or that they "cannot find anything". The noise is not constant, just when I apply the brakes in reverse.

Passat (B5) :: Loud Noise Is Coming From Rear Brakes

My car is making some noise. The first problem is describing the noise. I think of it as similar to the sound one can make with a moist finger rubbing along the top of a wine glass. A passenger last night thought it sounded like those gadgets you whirl above your head to make noise. I think the noise is coming from the rear brakes. The noise goes away if I apply the brakes. It also goes away if I apply the emergency brake.

It doesn't always make the noise, but it is happening often enough, and is loud enough, that I had to switch from the news to loud music on today's drive to work. I have enough pad left on the brakes, but I don't know about the e-brake. I was under the impression that there are tiny drum brakes that are used as a mechanical emergency brake on these cars? I've never peeked inside. I do have 118k miles on the car.

Maintenance history available at [URL] .... where you can see that the rear rotors were cut at 78k. However, I can feel a ridge on the rotor which I think is where the rotor is swept by the pad. I wonder if this ridge is somehow a problem, maybe rubbing against something else (which will doubtlessly turn out to be now damaged and expensive).

Passat (B6) :: Suspension Noise When Reversing And Applying Brakes

I had been hearing bang noise from my front suspension at certain times like when reversing car and applying brakes. It was happening since I bought my car and every time I have complained about it to local VW service guys, I was told by them that they cannot replicate the noise so there is nothing wrong. I even told them to have a look at front suspension bushings but again they said everything is fine.

Last week I went for 45.000KM Service and I complained about the same issue again and luckily this time service advisor heard the noise himself. Next day, they called me to inform that my front lower arm bushings needs to be replaced, front brake pads and discs, and front wheel bearings as well. In my response I told them that bushings were bad for long time and no one figured it out earlier and due to this my front brake discs had abnormal wear along with the wheel bearings.

I am still trying to relate that it is technically possible for brake discs at least to wear off earlier if the suspension bushings are bad as when you apply brakes, the brake discs are stressed heavily as the bushing are not absorbing any stress.

I would like to have thoughts on this matter. Just let me know if my understanding is correct or it does not makes any sense and technically would not be proved.

Just to let you know that it is 3.2 4motion model. My driving is average within 120 KM speed and never hit any potholes etc. Plus my brake pads indicator never went on.

Passat (B6) :: Constant Whine Noise While Driving When Brakes Fully Applied

I am new and just picked up a used 2008 Passat yesterday. It has 42k miles and what I had thought in perfect condition. I wanted to see what was going on before I took it into the dealership to get repaired. When driving I hear a constant whine / (like water is on in a house) type noise. Its noticeable all the time except when the brake is fully applied. It comes back once the brake is depressed and in park. I thought at first maybe it was just a brake pad rubbing but the constant noise in Park confirms its something else.

Passat (B6) :: Front Brakes Make Rubbing Noise That Sounds Like A Honk

So after I come to a full stop and then release the pedal to start moving again the front brakes make a rubbing noise that sounds like a "honk". Im not sure if this is a trait of Automatic cars as the car is trying to push foward on its own. My previous cars were all stick. My wifes car (Auto also) does not do this. Also the Auto Hold feature is very jarring when you step on the gas to go the car almost lurches foward as the brake disengages. Is it just my car or is there something that needs adjustment?

Passat (B7) :: Clunk Or Pop Noise From Left Front Wheel When Brakes Applied

I have started hearing a noise with my brakes. First thing in the morning when I back up and apply the brakes, I get a clunk or pop noise from the left front wheel. It will pop again once I move forward and hit the brakes. It only does the noise one time when I first apply the brakes in either direction. Once the brakes have been used out on the road and are warm, there is no noise when changing directions. I've had this noise in another car I used to have and it was caused by the aftermarket brake pads not being exactly large enough and there was slight pad shifting in the caliper. Being this is a new car and has the OEM pads, I would hope there would be no pad shifting or movement in the calipers.
