I posted before that i my airbag light just popped on unexpectedly I didn't change the radio or anything now I have no paddle shifter control, no horn/ no lights absolutely no power on my steering wheel. Is something disconnected under the seat. How to solve this problem...
View 5 RepliesI just bought a 2012 Passat TDI SEL, and wanted to add a steering wheel with paddle shift. The existing information I found is not clear. I ended up ordering the wrong steering wheel and had to send it back. So I thought I would post some info FYI:
The air bag mounting is not the same for all the newer VW steering wheels. While the splines, and external look is identical the 2012 passat uses a different style of clip to hold on the air bag. This means if you get a Jetta type steering wheel your air bag will not work. Also, the steering wheel controller is completely different in the passat. The controller is not mounted in the center of the steering wheel. The best way to go is to get a steering wheel from a Passat V6 SEL. This wheel is plug and play, you only need the wheel and VCDS programming (airbag and harness are reused). The part number for the BLACK leather color WITH paddles is 561 419 091 HE 74 ...
This question probably applies to all VW but curious as to how the paddle shifter operates on the Passat. If i were to install it would i have to move the DSG gearbox into the manual mode in order to shift or could I leave it on "D" and shift down and up at any time?

Yesterday when exiting off the highway the engine just turned off when I attempted to down shift using the paddle shifter. I managed to start it again while still moving by putting it in to neutral and restarting. It started right back up and didn't seem to complain again all the way home.
This morning while driving to work, on the highway, i needed to accelerate to change lanes and pass a slow moving vehicle and the car didn't respond for possibly 2-3 seconds, it then after a few seconds, kicked down, accelerated but the engine light came on.
Once the Engine light came on the gear indicator in the dash display turned to solid blocks (as opposed to only highlighting the current gear).
Since then, the shifts have been very harsh and abrupt, when coming to a stop it seems to shift very hard in to first and doesn't seem to know how to function correctly at on/off throttle inputs.
I haven't managed to connect it to VCDs.

View 4 RepliesFor the past week I have had the steering wheel and traction control warning lights come on after I start the car after sitting for a long period of time. Once I drive the car a few feet the warning lights disappear. The model is a 2007 2.0T with 72,000 miles. What are next steps or should I head to the dealership? I'm out of factory warranty but have a third party warranty that expires at 75,000 miles.

Besides the steering wheel control module and programming via VCDS/VAGCOM, do I need anything else for this to work?
The steering wheel controls, horn and cruise control recently died in our '08 wagon. The fact that they went out suddenly and simultaneously suggests that they might be tied to a fuse. I looked around the intarwebs via google and saw some references to a problem with HomeLink wiring in the sunvisor blowing "fuse 5" on older models, but I'm unsure if something like this is even valid for the B6.

My controls on my steering wheel will no longer change the channel or adjust the volume. When it does change the channel it goes crazy and changes multiple channels.
I have also noticed my GPS arrow seems to drift off the road I'm traveling on and then will jump back to where I'm driving.
My 75 Corolla wagon (2T-C 4 speed, rear wheel drive) has developed a terrible shimmy that can be felt in the steering wheel and shifter, as well as the whole car. It only does this when I am in 3rd or 4th gear doing between 35-45 mph. Over the past few months this has gotten worse, and instead of being an intermittent thing (once a week or so) it happens every time I am in the 35-45 mph range.

Was told there is a button to push by the turn signal side but don't see any. Looked around top and bottom of column and didn't see anything out of place. Also found a black wire with a pink strip not connected to anything. Touched the wire to the column and key dinger sounded. Where should this wire be connected?

This has happened to me a few times in the past, but has never stayed in after multiple start ups (and other remedial action). 2-3 times it's happened on startup, and cleared after a restart, one time while driving, and cleared on its own. View 14 RepliesI'm sure this is a common issue, but I don't know exactly what to search for. I have a 2001 F250 7.3L. When I stop my truck, with my foot on the brake, the steering absolutely doesn't work. I replaced the PS pump, which it needed, plus all the hoses and it got better, but the no steer problem while braking is still there. I have seen that an upgrade in pressure hoses may work?
View 1 Replies I have a nice 2000 Durango 4x4 SLT, automatic. I have some problems.
1) The drivers door outside latch will not open the door, the inside latch works fine.
2) The shifter on the transfer case is loose, it appears that the drive was left in 2wd since I have been able to use it. But it will not shift?
3) The steering wheel feels like it has a lot of play in it, also feels like a knuckle is in it when I turn it. It sometimes slips on turns at speed?
It happened twice since June when we (central NJ) have had really heavy rains. My front passenger side carpet becomes absolutely soaked, but everything else stays completely dry. Do you think the rubber trim has failed? A regular wash is fine, nothing gets in from that. My car is a 2006 B6 with about 97k on it. It's weird.
View 1 RepliesI recently had a 4-wheel alignment performed on my 2003 VW Passat. A couple days after the procedure I noticed my steering wheel was stiff and a whirring noise when I turned the wheel. Come to find out my power steering fluid is now leaking. Is this just a coincidence, or could the garage have broken something. It was not leaking or making any noises prior to the alignment.
View 2 RepliesI picked up a '99 Passat 2.8 GLX tonight and the steering is making a loud squeal and groan when I turn the steering wheel. I checked the fluid and it's brown. I've owned a lot of VW's and Audi's and I've never seen brown fluid in one. I checked for a leak but there's so much oil everywhere from where the previous owner just had the cam seals, timing belt, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff changed. The level looks good, but it's just nasty and loud.
