Passat (B6) :: Moisture In Back Up Lights - Tails Don't Fade?
Jul 13, 2010
I noticed I have moisture in both my tail lights and a little in my back up lights. what's the best course of action to deal with this so my tails don't fade? I'm hoping I won't have to take the tails apart.

This is the first winter with my LED tails installed, and notice that I get varying amounts of moisture on the inside of each corner light lens. It makes me a bit worried that this will eventually cause a short or destroy a light in my not-so-cheap tails.
It comes and goes based on relative humidity, temp, and precipitation - but isn't necessarily worse when raining. It's almost like the larger the delta between a higher cabin temp and colder outside temp on a "humid" day generates the most moisture.
I have checked the "bulb access" on each corner and the weatherstripping is intact and appears to make solid contact when tightened down.

Just installed the smoked tail lights on my '07 Treg. Installation was very easy per the instructions on OEMplus. I did a great job from that standpoint.
Got one issue, I check the 'Check Lights" warning and I think its due to the fact I tested the lights before I had all the new ones installed and hooked up. Do I need to take it to the dealer to have something reset via a computer or will the check light go away with some driving, which is what the dealer said.

Had the tail lights coded for at a local shop.. realized as I was leaving that the reverse lights are throwing an error. Can these be coded for? Now that the car recognizes the tails as LED, is the error coming from the incandescent? Should I replace the bulbs with low pulling LEDs without resistors? As for the fog, do I have to replace the bulb as well? No euro switch or wiring done. Basically, how do I get rid of the error.

Deliver mail so make many starts and stops throughout the day. I drive a 1988 Mazda 323 manual transmission. Recently, it has had trouble starting in the rain (like it isn't turning over). When it isn't going to start, the red lights come on the dash and then fade out to black.
The first time I noticed it, I was running the lights, windshield wipers, radio, rear window defogger and the a/c on and off to clear up the front window. It eventually started. The mechanic replaced the battery.
The next time it wouldn't start, I had accidentally killed it and was running the lights and windshield wipers and radio. It eventually started. The mechanic replaced the alternator.
The next time it wouldn't start, I only had the the lights and windshield wiper on. It eventually started. The mechanic replaced the distributor cap and wires.
Now today, it wouldn't start again but eventually did. I had the lights and windshield wipers and radio on. I turned off the radio before trying to start it the second time and it started.

My radio in the B6 seems to be acting strange...... I'll have the volume at a set level and it will fade up and down, like the volume is being ever so slightly raised and lowered. I thought at first it was some sort of speed-volume control but it fades up and down for no apparent reason. I have the in dash 6-cd changer with the XM built in.

I have had my '16 4 dr S for about a month now, and have had only one issue, well two if you count the fact that my LG G4 will not connect to AndroidAuto. Even when it is dry out and hasn't rained for days, both sides of my windows will be wet after rolling them down and back up. It is almost like the rubber seals act like sponges and coat the windows with water as the window passes through. It is not enough moisture to drip down the windows or cause a musty smell or anything, but it is aggravating.

My driver door speaker (top and bottom) often have static on them and fade in and out. I can tap the driver door and they'll usually come back in ... for awhile. Was wondering if I need to replace speaker(s) or is this just a bad connection in the door somewhere? Looks like I can remove the door panel from the useful DIY's below so just wondering if I should have new speaker(s) in hand when I do.

The other day I got yellow check lights warning on the MFI, so I went out and looked at all of my lights and then the inside lights but everything was fine. On the second time I got the warning, I found out that my front right fog light housing had quite a bit of moisture inside but all the lights still worked fine including that fog light.
I took it to the dealer and the tech tells me it is normal. He added that any of the front lights could get moisture inside but after a half hour on, the moisture should go away.
I never got the warning since. But the moisture still appears and never completly goes away and that fog light is the only one out of all the lights that get's moisture inside. I know about the TSB for the top light housing with moisture, but this is the fog light and only that specific one. I have never had any other housing with a single bubble of moisture!!Is this normal?

I have a '13 Prius III, and had to replace both tail light assemblies for moisture. They both developed the moisture several hours after washing it. It was covered under warranty of course, but seems odd that both would develop the moisture at the same time. The assemblies would be quite expensive to replace out of warranty.

So last night I was cleaning my Passat out and noticed something strange. The front doors have a lighted exit light (you know, that red reflector-like light on the bottom of the door). The back doors have the same but they appear to not be lighted -- is this by design? I would think they would all light up.

A couple months ago,I was getting moisture in my car. It was noticeable in the morning on the front and rear windows. Now I found mildew under the driver side floor mat. I have no clue where the water is coming in to cause this problem. All seals are tight, and I do not have a sunroof.

Dealer did repair work on front bumper. Now, after reinstalling a new front bumper, I noticed water starting to form inside the fog light assembly after it has rained. Dealer says this is normal due to our tropical weather. This has never happened prior to the repair work that was done.

The water in my B5.5 headlights had been bugging me so I finally decided to do something about it. I disassembled the front end of my car and pulled out both headlight assemblies, and was planning to just take off the clear plastic cover that the condensation sticks to and wipe out the water, like I have on my Saab. But I can't get the plastic cover off. Can you do this with the B5.5 headlight assemblies? How else would I get the water out?

For some reason I am getting moisture inside my car. This has started to happen regularly, even when it is not raining. I have checked all of my weather stripping, all windows seal tight, all doors close tight. VW service can't find anything.

I've got an '04 Passat and I'm having trouble with the back-up lights. The fuse was blown (which I replaced), and I just finished swapping out the bulbs. Only one of the bulbs looked burned out.
The lights are still not working, although I get a very faint glow from the left side when in reverse. I'm really puzzled that I'd get a faint light from just one side.

I have the above passat with the AWM motor. There is signs of moisture in the dipstick tube, but not on the oil fill cap. Now today the plastic dipstick funnel snapped due to being frozen to the dipstick.
Now the dipstick had what looks like lithium grease on it. The car has been slowely loosing coolant. But exhaust is clear, no signs of steam or coolant burning through exhaust.
But if the lithium grease like substance on the dipstick was a oil/coolant mix WHY did it freeze . I use a 50/50 mix of pentofrost SF. According to their lable should be good down to below zero. It has not gotten that cold here yet, even at night.
Why or how I could be getting moisture into the motor? And why is it only visible on/in the dipstick funnel and nowhere else.

I bought some stock headlights that were retrofitted with projectors. The re-seals seem on but after a decent rain the right side light is completely fogged inside. I have taken the back cap off and it will dry out after a day in the sun but should not do this. What's causing this and is it fixable or not??

My 2006 Passat has moisture in the passenger side headlight. Not sure how it got there, or how to get rid of it. The mechanic at the dealership said to drill a hole in the bottom of the light (but that sounds like a BAD idea).
How I can remove the moisture from this without replacing the entire headlight housing? I thought that maybe I could remove the bulb and use a hair dryer on low to try to evaporate the moisture.

I need to replace my passenger side tailight assembly due to moisture inside of it. Is it hard to take the assembly apart? If it is not hard than how do i do it. I already know that i have to go into the compartment in the back of my 02 1.8 wagon, but from there what do i need to do?
