I ordered a set (to go into the headlight housings, the little corner one). They don't work and I have the headlight out on my dash. I assume it needs to be VAG Com'd? If so, what are the settings?
View 5 Replies3.6 4Motion hesitate after taking a corner - if I take a long sweeping high speed corner I sometimes feel as if the engine is starving for fuel. As I straighten out the car after the apex it comes back to normal operation.
If I take a sharp quick corner the car will hesitate as I am exiting the corner. It is during this time that if I keep the gas constant or give it more gas that the car will sometimes give a violent jerk and the engine light will go on. I have replicated this with traction control turned off.
The dealer could not replicate the hesitation (as they are in town and can't get to speed due to weather conditions) but told me that the engine light came on due to a misfire. They also said they would check the transmission fluid levels as this may have something to do with it (not sure how the engine light plays into that one).
Any tricks that will make this job easier? They seem buried and when I reach I am only guessing as to what I am pulling out. For example, I pulled out a round cover, but what was it covering up? Must the bulb be twisted and then pulled or just pulled?

View 2 RepliesI need detailed instructions for how to replace the right (passenger's side) rear turn signal bulb socket and the subassembly that holds the remaining bulbs and inserts into the tail light assembly. I've done this once before successfully but now can't seem to make it work now.
Without the subassembly inserted and locked into place with its locking tabs, the turn signal bulb locks into place in its socket, and that socket in turn easily inserts and locks into place in the hole in the outboard corner of the lens through the rear of the lens assembly. However, I can't seem to install both the turn signal bulb in its socket and the subassembly that holds the rest of the bulbs. The two contacts on the underside of the rim of the turn signal bulb socket would indicate that that the socket installs after the subassembly, but then it has nothing to plug into. When it's installed first, I don't see how the bulb would be energized.
The owner's manual of course says to have the dealer handle maintenance in this area.
I recently bought a '99 Passat, 3.0l, that is lowered with 19" wheels and low profile tires. The front tires are a little lower profile than the rear ones, if that matters??? I noticed that when I cruise around a corner, slightly quicker then normal, the ASR light comes on and seems to cut the motor. The dealer says that its because of the oversized tires and wheels. Does that make sense? Any way to adjust that or fix this issue? This car will go to my daughter, so I don't want to cause her to get into an accident.

The issue: When this started out, it was barely noticeable and I attributed it to bad tires but now I have new tires and am not sure what's going on. As I turn a corner and accelerate, I feel this quick rumble go through the car; it's somewhat akin to very briefly running over rumble strips on the side of the freeway. It can also happen if I accelerate with moderate force.
One drive shaft was replaced a few thousand miles back but I didn't think it could be that as it doesn't do it at any particular speed or for a prolonged time. I thought it had something to do with the transmission or rear differential but searching didn't turn up much.
My game plan is to get the transmission fluid and filter changed asap. Is this a appropriate action or if I should be sourcing a new transmission ? I just don't know the severity of the issue and it worries me.
I tried to convert the bulbs in my dashboard with LED bulbs..and it worked for about a month and stop working..then about a week after not having any dash lights. They came back on...but like a strobe, but not all the time..... And then it'll be fine? I'm also looking Into doing a taillight conversion to LEDs.

View 7 RepliesMy front dipped headlamps both burnt out within days of each other and I replaced them with H7 Sylvanias. Pretty easy to get out, but they are too dim. I believe I do not have them installed properly.
Looking for PDF for this replacement procedure and/or give a description of how this is done???? It is kind of a bugger to get inside that housing. I am a mechanical novice with cars, but a competent M1/M14 gunsmith. I really can't justify paying VW $50 to install a few bulbs. I like fixing things for myself.
Is this any easier in my 2004 VW Passat than it was in my 2001 VW Jetta? In the Jetta, I had to disconnect the battery and dislocate my elbow and wrist in order to get my hand in the awkwardly placed compartment. Also, is it worth stepping up the original OEM to high intensity bulbs?
View 11 RepliesI just replaced the interior bulbs with LED's (3 Chip SMD's). The bulbs in the glove compartment and overhead rear lights remain on but the ones under the dash (driver and passenger courtesy lights) turn off within a few seconds. What could be going on.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2006 VW Passat which has been eating low beam bulbs. I've probably replaced this one 4 times in the last 12 months. The last time I replaced was 2 days ago with a Sylvania bulb. Yesterday on my way to work it burnt out. Then on my way home last night I was pulled over by a cop for it. That really annoyed me.
Having issue with Passat burning through headlight bulbs? Do I need to have the wiring assembly checked or possibly replace the entire headlight assembly? I'm getting really tired of changing these bulbs so often.
Trying to figure out what ELSE it could be.
Car just rolled 60K. Only odd thing going on is that the "puddle light" down in the corner of the driver's door will not come on. Ever. Bulb is okay. It won't even come on when the passenger door is opened, which I totally don't get. I mean, if the driver's door lock is toast, what's going on with that? My logic tells me that if the driver's door lock is the cause here, opening the other door would light that light.
No weird alarm behavior, no re-locking after 30 seconds or whatever it is (as though after unlocking with remote that door has not been opened), no missing fuel-pump-priming whirr. The only other thing I've noticed is that after opening the driver's door, all the other interior lights dim in about 25 seconds, rather than however many it is after the passenger door is opened (a bit longer).
My old (MkIV) GTI had the driver's door lock check out when the car was about 5 years old. But it had alarming and locking issues, which are more the classic symptoms.
So recently my car's air conditioner is just not powerful at all even on "4" . For some reason some of the air seeps out below the dash on the passenger's side. What would cause this problem?
View 9 RepliesThis is the first winter with my LED tails installed, and notice that I get varying amounts of moisture on the inside of each corner light lens. It makes me a bit worried that this will eventually cause a short or destroy a light in my not-so-cheap tails.
It comes and goes based on relative humidity, temp, and precipitation - but isn't necessarily worse when raining. It's almost like the larger the delta between a higher cabin temp and colder outside temp on a "humid" day generates the most moisture.
I have checked the "bulb access" on each corner and the weatherstripping is intact and appears to make solid contact when tightened down.
What are the correct torque settings for oil drain plug, oil filter and spark plugs on a 2.0 FSI engine?
