Experiencing a knocking sound coming from the dash area, sounds like passenger side, when slowing down or idling. Just started about a week ago and sounds like someone knocking on wood, or a door.
View 9 RepliesJust bought a used 2007 Passat 3.6L with 29K on it. Great car so far. However, I am wondering about a sound that is coming from inside the dash area. Sometimes when I am at idle, especially just after starting the car, I can hear what sounds like movement within the dash. I'm thinking that it must be the climate control system moving louvers, etc? It isn't constant, and really not all that bothersome. My wife at first thought there was a mouse inside! Is this something that others have noticed? Should I bring it in for inspection?

View 3 RepliesThere is a knocking sound coming from the passenger side dash board in my 2010 Taurus. I found a youtube video that indicated in was a recirculation door motor. I replaced that but the knocking is still there.

View 6 RepliesSo I have some road resurfacing happening near my home which I've been driving through recently. One thing that I've begun hearing is a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the center speaker area on my dash. I have the ML system so not sure if the standard audio package has this speaker. I'm not 100% that it coming from the speaker but it's somewhere towards the center of my dash.
View 2 RepliesI had a persistent soft rattle that sounded like it was coming from the dash area. Looked there, pulled the glove box off, taped a wire, and padded where the glove box meets the dash board, padded my right hand mud flap, and padded the glove box door upper RH corner, all to no good effect. Then just a few days ago I pushed the shotgun seat forward and reclined the seat back all the way.
The next day I looked under the seat. There are three yellow plastic electrical connectors that control the airbag and sensor. They are surprisingly rickety by design. Double side taping a 1.5 thick inch soft foam pad on top of the connectors, between them and the underside of the seat did the trick. I LOVE conquering rattles.

It sounds as though I have a relay in the relay panel behind the headlight switch clicking on and off while I am driving. I searched the archives a bit and through my own reasoning, I figured it is not related to the hazard switch or turn signal stock ( I could be wrong though).
Description: It only clicks while I have my foot on the accelerator and the car is in motion, never other wise. It is not dependent on throttle location; it clicks the same way regardless of where the throttle is as long as it's being pressed. The clicking stops completely when the throttle is not being pressed.
Because of this, I am unable to locate the exact relay that is making the noise as it is impossible for me to open the door and look at the relay panel while driving. The clicking is some what erratic; It will click, pause for 2-4seconds click again then wait anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds and repeat. It's driving me nuts. Evap? Is this normal? Can it be stopped?
When car is on , I am hearing a subtle knocking/popping sound I thought was from climate control but not so as even when it's off i hear it. It sounds like a popp noise from maybe passenger side. What component might be doing this?

Gurgling/percolating sounds, car started making a few weeks ago. The sound is coming from deep inside our front dash area. We do plan on bringing it to our local VW dealers attention at next scheduled oil change. I started getting this noise as well about a month ago. My passengers commented about sounding like someone sawing inside the dashboard. I do like the percolating description better...
This is different than the other "running water" sound that you get when initially turning the car on. I was told that was normal.... This percolating sound happens while driving and I noticed that it does have the pattern of happening when at slow speeds or stopped in traffic (after driving fast for a while).
As I was driving on the highway yesterday, I noticed an unusual heat coming from my car. I thought it was the air vents at first, but to my surprise, it was coming from the brushed aluminum interior trimming around the navigation and the that plastic piece around the key fob. There was also excessive heat coming from the the gas and brake pedal area. I am wondering what this is and I am worried that it might be an insulation issue.
There is also a very rough idle when I am at a stop on a red light. It got louder recently as there is a weird ticking noise/rattle coming from under the car, by my feet. This is definitely associated with the notorious idle issue on the 3.6 but my stealer cannot identify and replicate the issue.
I recognize the odds of isolating this is low, but thought I'd try. I have been hearing a a very subtle (but noticeable) noise coming from within the dash area of my 2002 Passat (mostly near the glove box side, but also in the middle area). Noise occurs when the ignition is turned on - with or with out the engine running. It can be heard while driving, but is more noticeable when I turn the HVAC fan to off. The sound is random, and seems to be like a relay dithering, an intermittent buzzer or a fan noise (although no fan is on.) It sort of sounds like a cell phone vibrating randomly in the glove box.
View 2 RepliesThe last few days I have been getting this strange sound from the Glove Box / Air-Bag area on the passenger side. It only takes place when the car is running. It happens about every 10 minutes or so. Chattering is the only way to explain it. It is not overly loud but everyone in the car can hear it. Kind of paranoid that it is something up with the air-bag.
View 5 RepliesSo I'm working on a customers car, its a 2001 Passat, there is a buzzing sound that started when she would use her left turn signal, and now the sound wont stop, the only way to make it stop is to turn the car off, turn the blinker on, or the flashers. I'm thinking the Turn signal switch inside the steering area.
View 2 RepliesHaving issue with body squeaking ? . I am getting a squeaking sound coming from around the passenger rear door /body area of my 2010 Passat. Car has 10K miles and has been doing this since around 6K miles. Not noticeable unless going over uneven pavement or railroad tracks but it is annoying. Never had any body squeaks from a new car lite this. Have not been to the dealer with this issue yet.
View 6 RepliesI just replaced my stock shocks with Bilstein HDs. I am using the stock springs.When going around a continuous right bend , like an exit off ramp, there is a knocking sound coming from the driver side front wheel area. The sound is present only when not accelerating (foot off the gas) the knocking sound stopped once the accelerator is pressed.
I replaced the rubber upper mount and bushing when I installed the shocks, and I have checked that everything is tight. Is the problem the cv joint? I did not have this problem before I changed the shocks. I searched this subject, but no one has described exactly what I have observed.
Just picked up my BMP R32 last week. The car is MINT, only 25k on her, seriously probably one of the cleanest, stock mkiv r32's left. I got every single service record since brand new, all done by a Volkswagen dealer.
Only problem is, a knocking noise has just started to develop, coming from the front passenger area somewhere. It is only noticeable when I brake or let off the gas after accelerating, but definitely more noticeable when braking. At first I thought it was something rolling around in the door, but now it seems clearly suspension related, or a loose bolt or something?

Just had my 40k service done, and also got an alignment done at the same time. On my way back from the dealer I noticed a knocking noise coming from the lower rear area of the car which is more noticeable when going over bumps. Its intermittent. Thinking something got messed up when they were doing the alignment? What this might be?

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a slight knocking noise coming from the passenger front wheel area mainly when I was turning toward the right.
Question.......So when turning to the right, it first seemed to me that the right side would experience a heavier load. However, after further thought and applying some physics the inertia of the car would actually be putting a heavier load on the left side during a right turn. Which is correct?
Just trying to troubleshoot the noise/problem.
#1 when I apply the brakes, the noise doesn't change. I don't think it's brake related.
#2 the noise speeds up with speed, meaning that it's rotational.
#3 The noise does get louder when I am turning right but has know progressed into a constant noise going straight. During a left turn it subsided.
#4 I did take my floor jake and jaked the pass. front wheel up but didn't see anything broken or damaged. I couldn't rotate the tire though.
#5 I also had the tires rotated today and the noise got worse.
My 1999 jeep grand Cherokee with 170000 miles with a straight line 6 cilinder has a knocking noise coming from the valve cover area. It is only present during a cold start and for about 2 to 3 minutes. Once it starts getting hot it stops. The engine runs fine it has lots of power and I do not have any other issues.
