Wife's car won't start today. Just get clicking sound when I put the key in, and a random message about airbag defective, or steering lock defective. We tried jump starting, but no luck. Do we have to pay to get it towed to the dealer, or will should they take care of that? I guess the starter went out?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 Passat GLS and when I tried to start my car this morning, it would not start. When I turn on the ignition, the car gives off a loud clicking sound. The interior and exterior light works, the panel light works, and the radio works as well. What might be the problem?
View 4 RepliesI'm a fairly new owner of a 2002 W8 Passat. A few days ago I was leaving the grocery store to come home. The car usually starts right up. This time is took 2 or 3 tries of cranking the starter til it fired on. On the drive home I noticed the A/C no longer worked and it didn't display the temperature on the A/C screen like usual. I got home just fine. The next morning I tried to start it. The starter and battery sound very strong. I was a little low on fuel so I dumped two gallons in - didn't work. I noticed a sound like a hard drive spinning or searching coming from the middle of the dash. I thought is was the cd player, but I ruled that out by taking out the stereo fuse. Is there a computer that went bad? I can't imagine there being an actual spinning hard drive in the car, but that's what it sounds like to me. I also noticed the clock and trip meter were reset as well. I didn't disconnect the battery to cause this. All fuses look good. I'm hoping it's not the fuel pump. Bad relay?

A few things I noticed on the car, While driving I hear this clicking sound from somewhere behind the steering wheel. It sounds as if it's a relay
clicking on and off. The funny thing is it happens at odd times, sometimes very frequently, sometimes not as much. I tried with the A/C on and off and it seems to make no difference. Is it related to the electro-mechanical steering? Funny thing is, I remember hearing similar sounds from other Passats. I had test driven...
door and panel piece in the car is rattling, hopefully things will "settle in" a bit after a while. Are the screws that attach the trunk to the rails supposed to be body colored? This is an interesting touch.
I have a strange clicking sound (intermittent) near or behind the glovebox...warranty is almost up - worth a trip to the dealer?
View 6 RepliesWhen you turn the blinker on, all of the signals and the flashers work fine, but after you turn the blinker off the blinker sound clicks sporadically for a few seconds, sometimes a minute after the blinker is off. The arrow light and the blinkers don't actually blink, just the sound from around the center console. Sometimes it will click a few times when you haven't even turned the blinker on. What's going on?

View 16 RepliesSo as per my prior post i was having issues with my directional (blinker) the clicking sound would continue after the blinker turned off. Replaced the hazard warning relay (whole hazard switch) and the problem is still happening. I was playing with the actual blinker control arm today and i got it to make the clicking noise without the flashing light to come on so that seems to be what the problem is. Thinking to have that signal arm replaced? I think that it is not totally disengaging after i turn the wheel. is this something i could do myself? I have the bentley manual to take apart the steering wheel.

View 2 RepliesI drive a 2006 Acura MDX with about 30000 miles on it. Today when I put the key in my ignition and attempted to start it I hear a clicking sound and the car wont start. The first time I attempted to turn on my headlights they did turn on. But then when I tried a few seconds later they would not. And I am seeing lights flickering on my dashboard as well. Do I have a dead battery or possibly something worse?

View 3 RepliesI drove my '02 Camry last night to a restaurant and when I came out it would not start. I have never had any problems with my Camry. I have a new strong battery.
All the lights, bells, radio, a/c, door locks, dash lights came on and work fine. There was no clicking sound of the starter. It would not turn over at all. NO SOUND AT ALL. I did move the shifter handle several times thinking it may have been the kill switch on the shifter.
What a great way to start the day! Nice little message on my MFD when I started the car up this morning. It drove to work just fine (which is right by the VW dealership) - but when I turned it off and started it again, the light was gone... Don't want to take any chances so I'll definitely bring it in. On a side note - I'm now hearing a clicking sound at speeds above 40mph. The noise gets faster as the car speeds up.
View 1 RepliesThis past winter I started having trouble with my '06 Santa Fe where I would turn the key to start my car and nothing would happen. No cranking, no clicking, no sound. My lights turn on fine, radio, everything else works just fine. Sometimes it won't start for 30+ minutes, and sometimes I'll just try a second time and it'll start up right away.
Last winter when this happened my check engine light came on and so I took it to the dealership and they said it was the crank position sensor that needed replaced. For whatever reason I didn't get it fixed and have been driving my car with no problems whatsoever for 10 months or so, until this weekend when my no start issues started again. The check engine light is on again and it's the same code for the crank position sensor.
I believe I will definitely get the crank sensor fixed this time, but could the issue possibly be anything else? Bad starter? Ignition switch? My mechanic can't give me a definite answer because every time I take it to the shop it starts up just fine for him.
I own 2012 Sonata Limited, with 40,000 miles on it.
The push start wouldn't work this morning, the car will make the annoying clicking sound, the dashboard is lit up but bunch of icons are active, the brake is very hard.
I saw few people had same issue and they said it could be either 1) dead batter 2) starter kit issuue.
My car is parked on basement garage, not sure how it can be towed. I wish a simple jump start would fix it and maybe I can bring it to nearby shop for checkup.
I have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra and I have had it for almost a year. Its been snowing here in Tennessee. I went to start my car and wont start. All the lights come on, radio, etc.I have tried jumping the car and wont work, even tried changing out battery. Not sure if theres any known issues going on or if it has to do with it being cold.

View 11 RepliesSince I had my 40k service a few months back, I hear a knocking sound for about 3-5 seconds after a cold start (overnight is long enough). It's a pretty loud clicking sound, even worse if the car hasn't been started for a few days.
I brought it to the dealership and they said it's "the sound of the lifters clicking before they get pressurized with oil". They said the oil level is fine. Doesn't seem kosher to me - didn't happen before the 40k service.
Could they have used the wrong oil? Or perhaps didn't put something back together again properly?
