2007 Passat wagon with TPMS. Getting new sensors and a set of winter tires and wheels.
Can I ad the new sensors the my Passat using a VagCom or some other method?
I just got my TMPS light on this morning, check pressure all 4 tires are good, 35 PSI each, did not check spare tire, does spare tire had TMPS sensor? what do you think? is one of my sensor is bad?

View 6 RepliesHad my winter tires put on today and the tpms warning light came on. Tire pressure is ok. Never had this issue before with these tires/wheels. This would be the third winter with them. Is there a way to reset the warning light on a 2010? I have read about doing this on later models but nothing on the 2010. I do not have vagcom tools. Hoping I do not have to take to dealer.
View 4 RepliesYesterday, I swapped my OEM 18" setup for new 17" winter wheels and tires (set at 37.5 PSI at 55 F)). Today I drove 30 miles and then my TPMS light came on (Temp=36F). Pulled over, checked pressure - all tires at 36.5 PSI.

View 15 RepliesCurrent Situation: I got my winter tires put on last week. I use the same rims for both sets of tires.
Problem: Driving out of the repair shop I noticed a sound coming from the front right of my vehicle which wasn't there before. I kept it off the road and made an appointment. They saw it today and said the right front wheel bearing is shot.
History: I got both axles replaced last year due to super worn out CV boots.
Possible complications: The first shop I went to (Auto Express in Amherst MA) did a crap job, and the clip holding the axles in place came off while driving. I didn't trust them at this point, so I had it towed to XYZ to get it put back on. No problems since.
Question: How likely is it that the mechanic at XYZ did something to cause the bearing to wear out suddenly? The noise started immediately after the tire change and was clear and noticeable. It was not there before.
Car: Toyota Camry with 147k miles on it.
I had terrible issues driving in the snow /ice last month. The car literally would not move forward. I bought 4 new Michelin Tires (Weatherwise II) but am thinking I should put on Snow Tires. Can I put them on the front only since the car is FWD? Also, which tire to choose?

Tire places are wanting to charge like 100-150 dollars more just to move them over. If i choose not to use them, will i get an error? Is it even a good idea to not put them on the wheels?
View 5 RepliesMy 2007 ES350 had a problem with the TPMS where it would flash for the first minute and then stay solid. After checking all 5 tire pressures and resetting the system by using the button under the drivers side dash, I determined that it was probably a bad sensor. Seeing as how they are 7 years old, this seemed reasonable. (I also checked to make sure the passenger side button for the second set of tires was not pushed).
I just had new tires installed at Costco, and brought 5 new sensors for them to install. They supposedly did whatever sensor registration magic is required, but I am still having the same issue. The light blinks for the first minute then goes solid.
What is interesting is that when I try to reset using the button, the light flashes slower (about 1 per second) 3 times, then goes faster (about every half second or so) for the rest of the minute. Is this some code that the system is trying to display?
Also, is there any trick to getting this system re-initialized that I can pass on to the Costco techs when I take it back up there?
I just purchased a 2014.5 Camry and winter is around the corner. I was going to buy a set of oem 17in SE rims and put snow tires on with out the tpms sensors. The question I have to ask is once the light comes on can you disable the traction control. Reason I ask is because on my 2011 accord it forces the traction control on and is sucks. Snow tires without the sensors.
View 5 RepliesMy understanding, and it seems logical to me, that if you rotate the tires and do not reset the TPMS, the pressure and alarm would come from the wrong location. I have been told that the TPMS sensors are, serial number unique and the car needs to know what serial number is at what location.
Anyway, for a do-it-yourself guy to rotate the tires and have the alarms come from the correct location??

I own a 2012 Camry and i just upgraded from the 17 inch to the 18 inch sport wheels. Do the tmps sensors have to be recalibrated because i get no readings. I thought the car should pick up on its own and show me tire pressure. The wheels came from a 2013 Camry.
View 6 RepliesGot 62K on my OEM Michelin LTX-AT2 tires. Very happy with the wear. Going to get them replaced in the next month with the same thing.
Question is, what is the expected life on the TPMS sensor/batteries in the wheels? Should I be replacing those at the same time? I put about 20K miles on per year, so tires last around 3 years. If TPMS is some multiple of 3, then I am ok, otherwise I will replace them when it goes in for new tires.
Any real world experience on battery life?
I am experiencing some noise coming from tires or wheels or both. I had a pair of nexen n3000 that lasted about 30,000 miles.
Last week I replaced them with Hankook Verus V12 255 45 18 that seemed to be a high rated tire by multiple sources. After I had them put on and road force balaced, It seemed like the right rear or passenger tire were making a noise that became pretty loud at 45 miles an hour thru to about 60 and then started to quiet down a little.
I then needed to replace the control arms on the front tires(front and rear; btw I have a great place that will get the parts very cheap if you need the control arms) So I had them replaced, and had the car aligned.
After all of that, I drove the car about 100 miles and it still was making noise. The dealership said the noise wasn't the wheel bearings, and that it was probably the high performance tire I had on it.
So I went to discount tire and they replaced them for me with Continental Extreme contact DWS tires that are rates much better and everyone that has reviewed them says they are quiet and have a good tread wear life.
But I just drove 5 miles on them, and they have the same problem. So either it is a coincidence the both sets of tires are bad. (which is unlikely)
Or: Wheel bearings are worn? Pressure isn't right(i have 38 on the front 35 on the rear)? Or another component I'm not accounting for.
I bought a 2007 Saturn ION Coupe the end of December 2006. I have had the car 4 mos and keep experiencing a wobbling when driving between 4-10 mph (traffic). They have balanced and aligned my car 4 times since I bought the car, once a month (it needs service every month I commute 1,000 mile a week). It seems to work for a short while and then the problem continues. They have checked everything, rotors, wheels, tires, etc.

View 3 RepliesI took my car to my usual trusty mechanic. Trusty asked where I had had the last rotation done. All the lug nuts were overtightened. The manual says to tighten to 96 pound-feet (that’s a measure of torque).All the nuts were tightened well past this. Many came loose at 200 foot-pounds. More at 300 foot-pounds (that’s as high as they wanted to go with their pneumatic torque wrench). There were still 5 nuts that didn’t budge. They brought out the manual torque wrench and muscled 4 of those loose. But one on the left rear wheel wouldn’t come loose.
So they made it a 3-wheel rotation, and left the left-rear wheel in place. I had a puncture driving over a piece of road junk last spring out of state and had to buy a new tire. Clearly the people at Roadside Tire had no clue (although why they messed with the other three wheels is a mystery. But although the left rear is the newest tire, i still don't want to have to trade the car in when the tire is worn! Nor do I want to trash out the rest of the assembly. What to do?
I have a 2011 Prius. I put 15" aftermarket summer wheels on it and a vibration appeared The wheels and tires have been rebalanced many times. Wheel alignment has been done, wheels replaced, tires replaced but the vibration is still there. I am now back to the OEM and the vibration is still there.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2006 scion xb with 106000 miles. It has 17" custom wheels on it. When I test drove it I noticed some vibration up front and assumed the tires were not balanced good. I rotated the tires and noticed a slight difference but it still shakes around 70-80mph. I cant feel any vibration from the back of the car. Sometimes at 65 mph it's fine, other times it will shake. Since the shake isn't at 65 all the time, could my problem be worn out struts?

My question is what are the biggest wheels and tires I can get after I install these springs? Will 17" rims fit? Or does it depend on the tire as well?
