I have Nav on my '07 2.0T. The Up/Dn controls on the steering wheel presently control the tuning Up/Dn function on the radio. How do I change it so they control the station presets? Are there other ways that these controls can be customized?
View 8 RepliesThe steering wheel controls, horn and cruise control recently died in our '08 wagon. The fact that they went out suddenly and simultaneously suggests that they might be tied to a fuse. I looked around the intarwebs via google and saw some references to a problem with HomeLink wiring in the sunvisor blowing "fuse 5" on older models, but I'm unsure if something like this is even valid for the B6.
View 9 RepliesMy steering wheel controls on the lower half quit working last year , then the cruise control quit intermittently last month , then the air bag light starts appearing last week. Deciding this means a failed clock spring / spiral cable , I took apart my spiral cable housing, and found two obvious breaks in the electrical wiring . I first bought a salvage unit on Ebay, to find it arrived bound, didn't turn freely (and no returns from seller). I then bought one from the dealer and installed it last week and very happily have all symptoms fixed!
The replacement was easier than I expected, the steering wheel was not actually very tight, I doubt I needed the steering wheel puller I 'borrowed' from the parts store , could have just loosed the main nut, wiggled and tugged it loose. Just a note be sure to remove 12 volt power from the car, and mark the steering wheel center shaft to the steering wheel for reinstall .
As a rural mail carrier I deliver mail out of my prius with the window down, traveling about 5 hours a day on dusty ,sand roads in Kansas. The car interior gets dusty and this caused the failure of the spiral cable.
Pic's of the old failed unit, the new one comes with some lubricant, white perhaps lithium grease for the ribbons/ wheels, mine had dryed up patches of grease, some I cleaned off the ribbons before the pictures where taken. I'll check the new one in a year, may regrease , cleaning it out to try to prevent this from happening again. I did add some plastic under the airbag to improvise a dust shield for the new spiral cable. Car has 197k bought it with 106k , now has around 60 k from driving on the route.
I was wondering if it would be just a plug and play to exchange manual a/c controls to automatic climate control thingie. Id expect CAN coding but im just wondering if i could just bolt on and code or is there way much more to it like additional control module and what not .... maybe even not possible at all.

View 8 RepliesThe controls on my steering wheel stopped working. Last Saturday I brought car into dealer for an oil change and they did a recall on the ECM module. I wonder if this is a coincidence or if the programming messed up the wheel.
View 2 RepliesLast night I filled up my gas tank and got back in the car, started it up and the top section of the computer screen on the dash that displays the radio information/volume, etc was off. The steering wheel volume controls no longer work either. However, the cruise control on the other side works as well as the rest of the computer to the left of the speedometer. The radio also works just fine as well. What the problem is? Is it something that I could have somehow turned off and can turn right back on (hopefully)?
View 7 RepliesI got a 2014 Passat 1.8T Wolfsburg Edition, it came with the RCD 310. The only thing that works is the radio but only with the steering wheel controls. Is this a common issue for this radio? Is there a way to reset or should I start looking for a replacement?

I'm also getting an airbag fault which I'm guessing may be coming from the steering wheel sensor since nothing else is working on the steering wheel. Maybe a wiring harness or something?

View 3 RepliesYesterday the horn on my 2007 Passat has stopped working completely. I have read the owner's manual from cover to cover and the fuse for the horn is not listed anywhere in any of the fuse diagrams - either for the engine compartment cover, or on the fuses listed in the interior by the driver's side.
In addition the MFD steering wheel controls have also stopped working, and there is also no night time illumination on those buttons. I'm guessing as these are also located on the steering wheel that the two problems might be linked. I can live without the MFD controls, but the horn is a safety issue.
I own an '07 Wolfsburg with steering wheel controls. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. When I'm in the car are they're not working, they eventually activate on and stay on.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 Passat W8 with the Monsoon system and today I had a new problem pop up with it. On my way to work this morning the steering wheel volume and tuning controls stopped working. I also noticed that the Heads up display in the center of the dash is now blank...it used to show the CD number and track number. I can't seem to find any blown fuses in the fusebox.. I don't have the removal tools but I was going to check behind the radio to see if there might be another fuse there...

View 4 RepliesFor the past week I have had the steering wheel and traction control warning lights come on after I start the car after sitting for a long period of time. Once I drive the car a few feet the warning lights disappear. The model is a 2007 2.0T with 72,000 miles. What are next steps or should I head to the dealership? I'm out of factory warranty but have a third party warranty that expires at 75,000 miles.

Associated symptoms include no power steering, complete lack/absence of stability and traction control. This has happened to me a few times in the past, but has never stayed in after multiple start ups (and other remedial action). 2-3 times it's happened on startup, and cleared after a restart, one time while driving, and cleared on its own. Hyundai Elantra SE ("sedan"?), 2009, manual - after the dealer replaced the brake light switch (or some such) as a recall service, soon after - but perhaps unrelated - the cruise control doesn't work at all from the driver controls. No nothing. All of a sudden. I read about the relays, fuses, however didn't make much of it - overlooked perhaps....
