Passat (B6) :: HID Range After Lowering
Aug 17, 2008
I just lowered by B6 4-motion variant using H&R Sport springs (only springs, not coilovers). I was on some back roads tonight where there was no lighting besides moonlight and my HID's. I noticed that the range is severely reduced since I lowered it.

When lowering your vehicle one side has to be adjusted alot more. I was lowering my vehicle to make the rear even. Notice that the passenger rear had to be lowered more than the driver side.

So I've been lowered on Neuspeed Sports and Koni Yellows for the past week now. I've noticed that when driving at about 60 mph or more on the highway I occasionally get a slight vibration from the steering wheel. It doesn't always happen and I do not know if it is partly due to the road surface. it does not seem so.
Is this just because I have lowered the car and have not yet gotten an alignment done? I'm waiting a few weeks for the suspension to settle before I do that. It does look like my front camber is off a bit, but it's hard to tell for sure. I haven't had this happen before, and it doesn't happen continuously. Will an alignment remedy this?

Suddenly the doors are not responding to touching to open or close and the engine is not starting. Giving the message that the key is not in range. I checked both keys and same situation also changed the batteries in both keys and same situation. Suddenly it worked by itself and suddenly it went bad again. I checked the error log of the car i am getting 9-Cent. Elect. -- Status: Malfunction 0010 however in the detailed log no faults found.

I've got a 04 Passat TDI wagon with factory keyless locks. The remote/keyless entry range sucks! And yes I put a new battery in it. I've had cheapo alarms operate much further than this factory system. Can I extend the range somehow? Does the keyless transmit through the antenna? Are there any range boosters or ways to make this a real world usable feature?

Recently I went out to start the car with the key I typically use, and when I pressed the Start button I got the message "Key Not In Range." The key will lock / unlock the car, but simply won't start it. I've been having to use my spare / second key in the meantime. I haven't had a single problem with the car since I bought it Sept 2012.

I just had my 1998 Passat 1.8T with 97000 miles checked since the engine light came on. It started this afternoon and the car ran just fine. I took it to an Advance Auto and after they plugged in the OBD tool it came back with the code PO 116. Engine Coolant temp CKT Range/Performance.
The fellow decided to clear the code and then the car would not start. I waited for about 15 minutes and the car started with some hesitation and the light was out. When I got home I let the car sit for a few seconds and it started perfectly like nothing ever happened.
Does that mean that the temperature coolant sensor is bad??? I have a Hanes manual and apparently is not too difficult to do. Would I have to partially drain the radiator?

Car is at the dealership now and they said that the sensor is being stretched out from being too low. I'm only dropped on a h&r sport cup kit, nothing drastic.

Have lowered C, an difficulty getting it into decent alignment? Do I need to purchase a camber kit? I'm on Tanabe DF210s, which are no lower than 1.8", I believe! I'm making an appt. for this Thursday to get the alignment done. I had springs installed this past Friday but wanted to wait a few for them to settle. (I put about 800 miles a week on the car.)
Basically, I'm just looking to know whether the shop should be able to get the car within spec. without the addition of a camber kit or anything else that might be required for the alignment.

Problems getting an alignment AFTER lowering. seems no one in my area has the old fashioned machine where it clamps on the wheel edge, they have the ones that clamp on the outside of the tire, which limits the rotation of the wheel if the body is too close. I am on rsr downs with Vossens, which wont work at all, so hoping the stock wheels will.

I was thinking of replacing my existing springs with a set of OEM European springs from oempl.us. Once it's lowered, do the headlights aiming need to be adjusted? If so, how do I do that?

I am planning to lower my car a little to eliminate the wheel gap. I've been doing research and I heard lowering springs is better than coilover, and more affordable too. What's the best way to lower my car?

I was wonder for those of you that have lowered tigs, mainly coilovers, if you have expereince any creaking sounds in the front. I used my OEM sway bar/bushings/end links and I think that could be the issue. For those with coilover have you changed to shortened end links / aftermarket sway bar? My sound is not a constant issue. Mainly first thing in the morning, or if the Tig has been sitting for several hours, backing out of my driveway and pulling off at low speeds. Once I get to normal driving speeds, over 20 mph the sound goes away and doesn't come back unless it's been setting a while or I am backing out sharply and move forward at low speeds. Once back up over 20 mph it's going and I have no sound even at low speeds.
