Passat (B6) :: Foam Under Oil Filler Cap?

Oct 1, 2012

I was adding a quart of oil to my 2 liter and I noticed this white/creamy foam or buildup on the underside of the oil filler cap. I am close to an oil change point I think around 1k if not less. Car has 75-80k miles on it maintained properly and had cam follower check at 50k it was clean then. I remember hearing about why this foam happens but I forgot.

Chevrolet - 1500 :: Foam Blowing Out Of AC Vents

There are bits of foam blowing out of the ac vents on my chevy pickup. Took it to the shop. They checked it over and said that the AC is functioning properly no problems with the system. The foam they state is coming from the doors inside of the ac system and suggested that I ignore it. I looked closer inside the vents with a flashlight and I do believe they are correct from what I saw. It is messy as it is greasy if squished. I am wondering if try to use an air compressor to blow out the vents and remove as much of that junk as possible and was it very successful?

Prius C :: Foam Coming Out From Where The Windshield Meets Dash

Title pretty much says it all. There's a piece of black foam that appears to be slowly coming further out from where the windshield meets the dash. It's happening in two different places, but appears it may be one long piece. What is the purpose of this foam? Should I be concerned? Concerned enough to take it somewhere now, or just point it out at my first maintenance appointment?

Golf VI R :: VWR Foam Filter Started To Flake Off And Fall Apart

So I decided to clean my VWR intake filter for the first time yesterday. The recommended mileage is every 20,000 miles and I decided to clean it after 18,000 just to be safe. After using the recommended ITG cleaner the filter started to flake off and fall apart. It's not totally deteriorated but it has lost a good amount of foam leaving me with a smaller, malformed filter. For one of the most expensive intakes on the market I did not expect this.

Dodge - Caravan :: White Foam Coming From The Hose

I have a 3.3L 1995 Dodge Caravan. I just noticed a white foam coming from the hose on top of the front valve cover. The hose leads to the air cleaner. The hose had clear water running out of it when I lifted it out (maybe half an ounce). Foamy stuff did not run out. The foamy stuff feels more slippery than water. The air filter and those little square debris pads were soaked. There is no water or foam that I can see on the dipstick. The inside of the oil filler cap had foam around it also . This just started. The car has many miles on it and has never had a head gasket replaced. The valve cover gaskets were just replaced and nothing unusual noted. The car runs fine when cold, but gets a little jerky when it heats up. The coolant level hasn't dropped (that I've noted) and the exhaust is clear (no white smoke.)

Volkswagen - Beetle :: 2000 - A/C Blows Pieces Of Foam And Temperature Changes

Air conditioning is serious as a heat stroke, so when my 2000 Beetle started blowing brittle pieces of foam from the A/C vents, moaning at stop lights, and refusing to cool, action was required. That was last summer, and I had the A/C "fixed" – new compressor (a dryer thingy had gone bad), a fresh charge of freon, and gloriously arctic air. There was still foam, but who cares as long as it’s cold? (I know the foam is disintegrating due to age, not rodents.) The shop told me they could fix the foam problem but that it would mean taking off the dash, could cost $900 in labor, and that not fixing it meant nothing worse than flying foam.

Now in the second summer, the air still blows cold but only sometimes, and it spits more foam than ever. When the air isn’t cold, if I twiddle all the knobs, especially the one that directs air from my face to my feet to the defrost and back, eventually the vents belch out more foam and give me cold air. This mainly works at 70+ mph. A recent development is that air blows on my toes as well as my face when I have the dial set for face-air-only. My tootsies love it, but I’m concerned that when all the foam breaks free I’ll have air coming from all vents at once, maybe hot, maybe cold.

So I have two questions:

(1) When all the foam has flown out the windows, will I have reliable temperature control?
(2) If the answer to 1 is no, would it be cheaper to sell my dear Sunshine to CarMax for a lesser price and let them dismantle the dash or pay the shop and keep driving her a while?

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Foam In Air Filter - Purpose?

I pulled my air filter for inspection last weekend. The 6.7L airbox is segmented into two parts - One part is very large and contains the pleated paper air filter, as well as the air intake in the base. The other part is small and contains a half-section of the pleated filter, with a fine foam filter below. However, the foam extends out through a sizable hole in the bottom of the small compartment and runs down outside of the box nearly to the base of the entire air box (held on by some plastic straps).

What is the purpose of the foam and "secondary" air intake? Why not simply use one compartment with the paper air filter?

Dodge - Dakota - Radiators :: Truck Started Running Hot / Foam Coming Out Of The Overflow

we had a shop replace a thermostat in oct 10, last week our truck started running hot so we put in about 3 qt of 50/50 coolant. it returned to normal temp the next day we noticed some foam coming out of the overflow. when we opened the hood it looked like a brownish/red color and is a thick foam. When taking it back to the garage they cannot tell what it is. They have tried to flush it out and say they put in 3qt of fluid and only get out 1qt. It can be chunky at times. What it could be?

Camry :: 03 2AZ-FE / Cracked Baffle Under Oil Filler?

Changing the oil in my wife's 03 Camry 2AZ-FE, I noticed a small scratch-like crack in the oil baffle that's attached to the under side of the valve cover. According to the interwebs, this is a known issue and in a worst case a chunk of baffle can break off and jam the timing chain. How concerned should I be? I'm thinking I should just monitor it for the time being and get more alarmed if the crack gets bigger or the baffle starts looking like it could separate.

Celica :: 1985 - Gas Coming Out Of Filler Cap

So this is a strange and unsettling problem:

I recently filled up my tank, drove about 45 miles on the highway and when I got out I noticed that gas was leaking out of the fuel filler cap. So I decided to open the cap to alleviate some of the pressure, but when I did that, a TON of gas came pouring out of it into the parking lot...

The pressure on the tank has always been kinda high in my opinion and there are times that I can smell gas when I'm driving along, but this is new. I tried looking for kinks in the lines, but there are none. I can't smell gas coming from the engine bay either.

Roll over valve? Pressure regulator? I mean there's not a whole lot to the fuel system.

things of importance, if at all relevant: 209k, Manual

Just did the fuel pump, but TRIPLE checked for kinks in the lines before reinstalling the fuel tank, and they're all pretty visible under the car anyway...

Prius (Gen 2) :: 2005 - Leakage By Coolant Filler Pipe

I was changing the engine coolant on my 2005 Prius today. When I went to fill up the tanks, I noticed a small pool of coolant right under the filler pipe. I thought I might have overfilled something, but when I jiggled the filler pipe, I heard an air leak. It looks like there is a bad seal between the filler pipe and the radiator. I also noticed that my coolant recovery tank was empty. I never noticed this before so I don't know if this issue is related.
