Passat (B6) :: Compass Shows Totally Opposite Direction
Sep 16, 2008
I'm driving 06 Passat V6. When I was driving in chicago last week, apparently I was driving heading north but the compass showed me that I was driving south.

View 2 RepliesThe needle in temp gage on my 2005 Toyota is now facing the opposite direction. This happened right after the most recent oil change. Is this a gauge or a sending unit problem?
View 11 RepliesThe headliner compass occasionally strobes and does not show the time or direction.
View 4 RepliesI recently purchased a 2012 Lexus LS 460. I looked everywhere for an answer, but can not find one. On the navigation screen, the compass can point north or in a 'heads up' position. Most people, as you know, like the heads up (moving icon always points north). However, in this 'heads up' mode, the compass does not seem to indicate what direction I am moving. The compass does change when the car changes direction, but it does not correctly show the direction the vehicle is moving. For example, if I am driving true NORTH, the compass will show NORTH. If I then start to turn righ (moving from NORTH to NORTH-EAST), the compass actually starts to move and show NORTH-WEST. So, when the compass is in 'always north' position, the icon on the navigation screen correct shows the direction the car is moving. But, when the compass is in 'heads up' position...how can I tell what directing the car is moving?
View 14 RepliesI'm in some sort of crises (passat 2002 GLS); I was trying to inspect the fuel tank release switch on the driver door panel, Now the the car is totally immobilized, can't bring the window up, the remote doesn't open or close the window and most important, the engine is not starting.
View 3 RepliesI don't know when it happened, but the compass does not show on my MFD anymore. I have been through all of the menus in the mfd and can't find anything about turning it on. Oddly enough, I can't find the menu for setting the area for the compass either. I do have a Vag-com but where to look using it.
View 10 RepliesRecently had the car in the dealership for the OY Recall (software). Now, my compass has disappeared and it is not in the MFD Setup? I have tried searching but have come up with no results. Dealership said it the compass module is installed in the trunk near the passenger rear storage compartment and to clear out the trunk if it is overloaded-nothing is in my trunk.
View 6 RepliesFor the past 4 mornings when leaving for work my compass (not satnav) in the MFD has been wrong. It has only said N or NE regardless of which way I am traveling.
I have about an hour-long trip to work. The car sits for about 4 hours then for lunch IT WORKS. For the trip home IT WORKS. Then the next morning... CRAP. I've tried shutting off the car and restarting first thing and half way through the trip. I've also tried stopping for 20 minutes on the way in.
I have a 2007 Passat with a compass that is registering 180 degrees off. North and South still register correctly but east and west are reversed.
View 6 RepliesThe compass on my car suddenly disappeared, and I need to check if the fuse has blown out. Unfortunately the fuse box diagram in the owners manual does not match up at all with the actual fuse box (had a similar problem previously with the 12volt outlet inside the car).
Which is the correct fuse location? 2006 2.0T .....
Tried calling my local dealer, and they gave me the standard answer: Bring it in and we will take a look at it... I find it ridiculous that they cannot just let me know the fuse location, given that they know that the owners manual is incorrect !!!
My 2006 Prius when first started after sitting a while, when manually shifted into Reverse the car will shift into drive instead and vice versa. The mechanics say it's impossible BUT IT"S HAPPENING! It has already cost me over a thousand dollars in damages, it may some day be a critical safety issue.
View 4 Repliesi have a few...
1. the max pressure on my tire is 44...my gas cap tells me otherwise...which should i follow?
2. i have a 2001.5 passat and the manual says i need a 91H load/speed rating...the tires on my car are 89H...what problems might that cause?
i keep all 4 tires inflated at 30 psi and check them every week...despite that i have uneven tire wear on the outsides as if they are underinflated...i am inclined to think that i got ripped off with my tires...what do yall think? i also regularly align, balance, and rotate my tires...
I bought a replacement bulb, swapped it out. No dice. I swapped over the passenger side low beam and still no dice. At this point I know its not the bulbs. I swapped in the original Driver's side light to the passenger side and it works. So now I have an extra bulb.
But the light is not working when I know the bulbs are good. Is this a fuse problem? It just happened one day while driving home from work the light shows up.
How should I go about fixing this and is it most likely a fuse that has gone out or something far worse?
Just bought a 2012 2.5l last week, and have a question about the MPG display on the dash. When I bought it from the dealer it had a full tank and it showed I had about 500+ miles left. Yesterday I filled up the tank again and now it only showed I have 405 miles, but as I drove it bounced around from 415-400. after driving about 35 miles its still at 405 miles. Just wondering if this is how it's supposed to be, if I have to reset something every time I fill up, or if something is wrong? I've always had mk4 so I'm not all up to date on the "new".
View 4 RepliesAt times, not often but on my 04, when I turn headlights on, the drivers side front window will go down, and when I work the switch to make it go up, the passenger side front window will go down.
I don't have a wiring diagram for the car, so tracing the circuits would be next to impossible.
I have a 2000 passat 1.8T and the ABS light and brake light comes on and shortly after the "stop, break fault "message shows up. The warning does not come on every time I drive the car only sometimes. Brake fluid has been topped off and everything else seems fine. Is it a bad sensor somewhere? Something else maybe?
My check engine light is also on and the code is p0118. I replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor but I still get the code. Was there some secret way to replace it that I didn't know about? Something else I should check?
I have a weird problem with the AC on my 2001 Passat. Every so often, evidently at random, the computer will show an outside temp that is far below actual. It will sometimes drop to -58F, even when it is hot outside. It won't always go that far down--and it eventually returns to the true temperature. But when this happens, the AC turns off, or the heat turns up (I have the Climatronic thingy). We have to shut the climate control off altogether in order not to roast. Turning off the car is not always a fix for this, and neither is turning off the AC. I suspect a sensor of some kind has gone bad, but the dealership wants an exorbitant amount of money just to dig deep enough in the car to discover what is wrong. This has been going on for 6 months, in all weather, but with greater frequency lately.
View 3 RepliesI went away for a week and upon returning, I couldn't get my V6 to start. I couldn't get anything to work....auto lock, headlights......and then I discovered the battery has been discharged totally. I am really shocked as how could this have happened. I have checked everything but nothing seems abnormal as I remember checking every detail before locking up the car and leaving for my trip. This is the longest time which I did not use my car. Before that the longest was less than a day. Btw, the car is only 2 months old.
View 24 RepliesBasically unless its at night the sun totally washes out the lcd screen on my car. Even with tinted windows its pretty bad. I've seen some hoods like they use to cameras and stuff. Any way that don't look hideous to block some sun from hitting the screen?
View 14 RepliesI purchased a 2008 LS460 off a lease last summer at 28,000 miles. I had an oil change at 36,000 miles this summer (with one oil change in between). At approx 40,000 miles my oil light came on and after checking the dipstick it was totally dry. It took 2.5 quarts to fill it up. I immediately brought it to my local Lexus dealer. After topping it off they stated they wanted to do a "consumption test" where I drive 1,000 to 1,500 miles and then check the oil level. After 1,400 miles the dipstick looked way down to me (under the lower indicator on the dipstick), but Lexus said it was .4 quarts down and "totally normal consumption." I complained, and we re-performed the test. I had it in there today after 800 miles and the dipstick was less halfway between the full and low on the dipstick. The "master" mechanic again says it is .4 quarts down and "normal oil consumption." If it's .4 down at 800 miles, isn't it gonna be 2 quarts down at 5,000 miles?
View 14 RepliesI was driving on the highway when everything on the car went dark-the wipers (it was raining) stopped-and I was left just coasting. The hazards worked. I managed to coast through the exit and off the access road which is where the car is now, the next morning.
Once again: Car running fine, with no problems when an instantaneous shutdown occurred.
The key fob's battery had gotten to the point that the Smart System wasn't working so I assumed that the fob battery had gone totally dead and wasn't communicating with the car while inserted in the fob slot. I replaced the fob battery and it activates the Smart System now.
The 12v battery was replaced less than 6 months ago. The headlights still work....I think that would only happen when the key was available normally and this might be related to the below description:
The car makes the warning sound when I open the driver door as if the fob is still in the ignition (it's the warning that the keys are about to be locked in the car) so it seems to not realize the key has been removed.
The suddenness of the shut down makes me think that it's a blown fuse or, a horrible thought, that the immobilization feature is activated.
