My check engine light has been on for 3 days i get my appointment with VW and then today i start it up and it goes off. Also, having a problem with very loud squeaking coming from the front bottom left of the engine ?
View 17 RepliesI've a loud squeaking sound coming from the front of the engine on cold start. This only happens when I start the engine after overnight parking . There are no squeaks when the engine is warmed up or when I start up with a warm engine.
I'm driving an 07 Camry and live in a region with hot tropical weather.

Accidentally dropped a thin wire to the left bottom of the engine bay, Will this cause any harm to the engine?
View 1 RepliesI am getting a check engine light about every 4 days. It is stupid suff like secondary air, or catalytic below efficency... Is there any way to prevent the light from coming on over these faults? I think it would cost me some serious money to fix everything it needs to keep the light from coming on. As you all know, once you fix one thing something else breaks.

The dealers diagnosis was that I wasn't tightening the gas cap enough but I don't believe that because I do at least 3-5 clicks when I close it. I'm a bit baffled. After the last time I filled up at the gas station, I noticed the cap was loose so I've ordered another cap thinking the last one has lost its ability to seal properly...
View 3 RepliesI recently had some work done on my 2001 1.8t Passat. All new vacuum hoses & camshaft tensioner replaced by VW dealer. Check engine light is coming on and an independent shop near read out a code: Bank 1 mixture adaptation(multi): System too lean.
What does this mean??? And could this relate to these parts being replaced??? Work was done approx 2000 miles ago.
I'm hearing a sort of faint rotating squeaking noise coming from the front of the engine; I can only assume that it's something with the belts. Nothing too pronounce cause I just notice it yesterday, anyway I was hoping I get another take on what this might be before I take it to the mechanic tomorrow.
View 12 RepliesI just noticed that my Grand Marquis recently started to squeak rather loudly coming from the front end shocks.. Think its coming more from the passenger side.. Now we've never changed the shocks since we've had the car so I'm fairly certain it's going to need some new shocks. But could this also be because the lube has dried out on the suspension ?. Doesn't affect the drive but it sure is annoying driving around with the squeaking...
View 4 RepliesWhat is causing this strange noise. I have an old 1998 Subaru Impreza that runs well but has this mystery squeaking noise coming from the area near the front left of the car. It seems to happen most on cold, dry days, and I can hear it when the car shakes, but only when it is driving, never at rest. I can usually make the noise if I let up on the gas while still in gear, and it happens sometimes while going over bumps, but typically only if the bump only affects one side of the car. If I am accelerating quickly or braking, the noise usually doesn't happen. It also usually only happens when I am in gear and have the gas pedal pressed, but it can still happens on bumps even if the car is in neutral, the noise is usually much quieter if the car isn't in gear.
I can't tell if the noise is coming from inside or outside of the car, but it seems to be louder inside and I can't hear anything from outside when driving through a parking garage with my windows down.Now this noise first appeared a few days after I got my clutch plate, fly wheel and axles replaced several months ago but I haven't been able to find anything on my own and the shop said they didn't see anything that could be causing it.I have included a recording I took while driving, if you listen its the high pitched squeaking. So far the only thing I have done is checked the sway bar and bushings and those are all in good condition and covered in lube.
Started about a month ago with a very infrequent squeaking coming from area of front left wheel. Has started getting more and more frequent to the point of being constant for about 10 minutes today, then just went away for the remaining 15 miles home. Front left hub was definitely warmer than the other one but not too hot to touch or anything. Start of a bearing issue or something to do with the auto locking hubs for the 4wd???
View 14 RepliesOkay, I bought this car used and the previous owner apparently didn't maintain it. So I spent the last couple months having a new (used) engine installed. All said it's been in the shop longer (by twice) than I've been driving it. On the way home from the mechanic the check engine light came on.
If I keep changing my oil every 2000 miles will it sludge again? Dealer recommended every 1500 to 2000 miles! I've spent 15k on this car so far, and driven it about 2k miles......
Last night I noticed a weird sound coming from the left side (alternator side) of my engine. Took a video.... I have already done my timing belt replacement about 10k miles ago. Oil is full, no leaks. Have the pcv block so it has a slight putting sound (as stated from their install manual). You can hear an inconsistent hollow growling sound that happens at idle but also under revs. Didn't notice the sound this morning but a lot last night.

I have an 01 passat 1.8 turbo, I have been having a loud rapping noise coming from the top of the engine. Started about 8 months ago when you turned on the engine and would immediately go away. Then it continued stopping at 500 rpms then at idle and now it continues up to 2000 rpm. I have spoken to the local vw dealer twice now, first they claimed it was the timing belt and tensioner, replaced it, still made the noise. Next was told that there are two screens that could be clogged, one in the oil pan, which is impossible to get at without pulling the engine, and the other screen was located under the valve cover, pulled it off and found no screen, called vw and was told no screen in my model.
I noticed a chain in the inside end of the valves, when the engine runs it is loud and comes from the area of theat chain, the chain appears in fine shape, tight, there is no signs of metal shavings or anywhere that parts may be hitting. The valves were all is good shape. The car runs fine and the gas mileage has not been effected at all. No oil leaks or idiot lights coming on. The car sounds like a diesel on alot of steroids. It is so loud and i fear something is going to blow on it.
2004 4.6 V8 Trition ,two wheel drive, STX Pickup. By removing the bottom radiator hose, will that allow all engine coolant to be drained from engine? If not, about how much coolant will remain in the engine in terms of quarts or percentage of total vehicle coolant capacity?

View 2 RepliesStarted up our 2010 RX 350 and there was loud knocking. This smoothed out after several seconds. I stopped engine and started it again. This time the knocking was less severe, but now the Check Engine light is on. Engine seems to be running a little rough as well. I have a feeling I have a bad plug or wire maybe.

Recently because it was making a loud noise and because the check engine light was on we got the exhaust system changed at Coles and this made the car silent as before.The mechanic there checked the check engine light code and reset it and he said it was an Evap code.He checked the fuel cap and found it to be OK. He said that if it comes back again I have to get it checked by some one who has a smoke machine to detect the leak and this could cost me about $100/- to set it right.The check engine light has come back again.
View 4 RepliesSo my 2012 plugin was parked for about 3 days, and when I turned it on, heard loud knocking and the check engine light came and stayed on.
When switching the car on or off, I'll hear two taps/ticks that were not there before. Loud knocking is not there now.
What can the issue be? It was very cold and snowing.
Just got a diagnostic from the nice people at Prius Battery Repair. Check engine light was on and intermittent red triangle when I make a left turn. Code PO505 came up- Idle control System. I have 162,000 miles and just put in a reconditioned battery that checks out fine.

~On cold morning when i start the car up and turn the steering wheel I hear a very loud whining sound, but after driving for about 20 min and the car has warmed up the sound goes away.
