Passat (B6) :: Car Skips For A Split Second When Decelerating?
Feb 19, 2008
I drive about 25 miles to work each day usually at highway speeds (~75mph). At the end of my trip as I'm coasting down the exit ramp and starting to apply my brakes, at around 30mph my car 'skips' for a split second.
It's hard to describe...it feels almost as if I've hit a patch of icy road and the ABS kicks in for a split second, but it's a little more severe than the feel of the ABS system activating. I don't know if it's a rough transmission downshift or what...but very annoying and hopefully not a sign of worse things to come.
The car has about 14k miles on it. It's a 3.6L Passat Wagon.

While changing over to snow tires yesterday, I noticed the driver's side CV boot was split open with grease/oil everywhere.
Questions:
How urgent is this repair? Is the car drivable for a short while until I can get it fixed?
How much might I expect a CV boot replacement to cost?

I have a 2002 Passat 1.8L T AWM Manual, 223K
I have noticed in the last little while, The car has a aplit second delay when I press the gas and it pulls.
I.e. If I'm on the highway, 5th gear 110km.h, I let go of the gas, soon as I press it again, a split second delay and it pulls with a slight jerk( Gas....... slight jerk. accel no problem).
Also, at times when the car is sitting overnight, my Airpump doesn't start when I start the car. In warmer weather, it always fires up after the car has been OFF for a period of time.
I got my Ross-Tech Vag and scanned it with no issues, except, my ABS module is not communicating.

The "60" portion of my 60/40 rear seat will not go back to the regular seat back position. I have been told by a local VW dealership that the center seat belt mechinism is locked and is preventing the seat back from going back up.

The vehicle in question is not our 2006 Passat
Car in Question:
2010 CC 2.0T DSG
12,4xx miles
I have noticed that when accelerating and decelerating I feel/hear an annoying clunk. I remember reading about this issue when I was reading this section all the time when our '06 was new, but when I went back and searched there only seemed to be people complaining and no real solutions to the issue. It really is hard to describe, but it seems to happen when slowing down the most, say when approaching a speed bump. I notice that if you apply the brakes longer ahead of time the clunk is less frequent, but its not like I wait until 3ft before the bump and slam on the brakes (also when decelerating into a slow corner/highway on-ramp).
I experience the same clunk when accelerating, usually when using more throttle than less; again not flooring it or anything too aggressive. One more example where I feel/hear this a lot is when coming home; I have a long narrow driveway w/ a garage at the end that I back into everyday. When I stop and put the car in reverse I get the clunk, but not until I press the throttle slightly. One weird thing is that I notice this clunk more when I have been in the car longer, with more stop and go traffic, in and out of stores etc. I have felt this on our '06, but not to this level
Some may say that I my problem could be solved by being more gentle on the throttle, but in all honesty I think I use it normally. There should be no clunk no matter how aggressive I am.
When I was at the dealer for my 10,000 mile service I mentioned the problem to the tech and they said they would take it for a test ride and report back. They told me that it was under normal operation and that the sound I heard was the DSG transmission going into and out of gear. I do know what they mean about the DSG, but this is a different problem, and if that was the case I wouldn't hear the clunk in instances such as reversing into my driveway.

Every now and then (more often than not) when I am slowing down in my '05 GLX Passat, the transmission seems to throw it's self rather harshly down into first gear.
So, I'll be slowing down from an exit ramp off a highway to a traffic light and right before I come to a complete stop the car will jolt its self into first.
Is that normal? It happens more when I am slowing down at a quick rate, but when I am gradually slowing down, it usually won't happen.

So I've had my B6 7 months now with no major problems (other than a blown head light bulb, which was repaired under warranty) - until now....
So when I'm decelerating from higher speeds (55mph +)...say for a stop light or to turn....around 30mph....my car occasionally shifts down hard. Not enough to make me stop driving and call a tow truck but definitely enough to make me to notice.
It's only when shifting down and it's just started in the past month or so. Before that the car has performed beautifully...shifting like silk. My car is a 2007, auto 2.0T with almost 20k (had 4k when I bought it). It happens when I decel slow or have to stop real fast. It seems like there's no rhyme or reason to it.

What is this noise? Video included... [URL]... This noise comes up after the engine gets warmed up and only when the car is decelerating or idle. That is, as soon as I take my foot of the gas pedal the car starts making this noise and it is very loud. No error codes.

I have a 2006 volkswagen passat 3.6 litre v6- have had this car about a year now, 60,000 miles, no problems until recently. Last week I started noticing that when I am driving, with my foot on the gas, it would intermittently act as if it was decelerating at a rapid pace( will drop gears, is NOT a coast)- even when I floored it!! As soon as it stops responding to the throttle I can floor it, nothing will happen, then let the gas peddle go- then reapply gas and it will act perfectly normal- no flooding, no nothing!! I have been able to keep it floored( while it is decelerating) for about 30 seconds, and it seems to make no difference.
The only other problem that I have recently noticed was that my cruise control was acting only intermittently as well. Oh, also while all this is happening it isn't throwing any check engine, or error lights. I have taken it to the dealer, and also to another specialty mechanic( with master certified technicians) and neither seem to find any problem with the vehicle, the only code that they said was found was one to the mass air flow??, but they weren't sure that was actually the problem, as, of course, they cannot seem to replicate my problem, even though it is now happening quite a lot. I am worried about driving my car now as it is quite a hazard when it decelerates rapidly, and to top it all off, we were supposed to leave for a 2,000 mile road trip in 10 days.

So this just started randomly about three days ago. I was listening to music through the ipod adapter and all of a sudden the song changed, then a few seconds later my song changed again. it continues to happen but is completely random. Sometimes songs will play all the way through and sometimes it skips.

I had a eureka moment the other day when braking over a rough surface and I think I've worked out why the Prius (and other hybrids) feels like it skips more than other cars when braking on a rough surface. It only occurs on light braking, i.e. when on regen, it's because the rear brakes are not engaged. A normal car would have all 4 wheels braking so if the fronts let go momentarily the rears hold the car steady.

I've noticed occasionally my music goes silent for a second or so when the iPod is plugged into the USB port. But then it will play without missing a beat for long periods. what could be wrong? No skips when using the aux plug.

I have a 1995 Park Avenue 3.8 with 278,000 miles. Runs fine until about 3rd gear and 55mph when if under any load at all the whole car jumps and shutters. If not under load, like going up-hill, no shutter or skip and runs smooth. If accelerator pressed at all, even when running smooth the shutter begins. Normally does not shutter at lower speeds.
Thought it was the transmission, so serviced the transmission. No improvement.
Took car to local transmission repair. They drove and do not think it is the transmission. They did check pressure at the throttle body, gas flow - let gas flow into clear container, no debris or water - and pressure was in the 52 range. Dropped some on acceleration while in park.
Shop did scan the computer, no codes. Check engine light is not on. Checked fuel filter and it was good.
They also checked all the spark plug wires and indications were that all were firing and in good order. They misted the wires with a spray bottle to see if they could detect electrical leaks - did not find any.
The car is not driven that often and was very low on gas. After leaving the transmission shop, bought gas and initially the car ran great with no hesitation or shutter even at 55mph. Shutter returned within about a mile. The car acts as if it has time to fill a container with gas it runs fine until the container looses some of the gas then it runs rough, or if you are driving along and try to take more than the normal flow out of the container the car runs rough - if they makes any sense.
Bought new gas filler cap just in case. No change.
The fuel filter and fuel pump were replaced at the same time about 2 years ago.
The EGR was replaced about 1 1/2 years ago. New plugs and wires about 1 1/2 years ago.
There is sometimes, but not all the time, a loud pitched whistle which seems to be coming from the area of the gas tank. Oddly enough if the car is in park and running while the whistle is happening, if the brake is pressed, the whistle changes in pitch to a louder and fuller whistle. When the brake is released, the whistle pitch drops in volume and more of a shrill whistle. Same happens moving transmission from P to R.
I feel I have a fuel problem, however, fuel flow, pressure, etc., seem to be ok. The mechanic drove the car with pressure gauge attached to the throttle body and didn't seem to feel that the gas was the problem upon returning from the drive.

Have a 1995 Toyota Tacoma 4WD with around 230K miles. Recently, it has been 'skipping'. When we are driving or idling, it's like the engine sputters out and jerks along but it never stalls and always starts. Had it to dealer and another mechanic - plugged it in said it was catalytic converter and 02 sensor. We changed those, along with: plugs, wires, air filter, oil. That did not fix it. What this could be. Where else to start to look for this vehicle. It's been the greatest little truck.

My 7.3 skips when driving, completely random, but it did skip many times in a row when driving over a bridge, moisture seem to be the culprit somehow. I have replaced CPS, UVCH, Glow Plug, Glow plug relay. I have not replaced the harness from outside the valve cover to the CPU that controls them. Its a 200.000km truck (125.000) miles, that has been well kept and seen little towing in its life. How did you fix your 7.3 from skipping? When it was not a CPS?

First of all, its 5.7L V8, it's been very well maintained, I've had my fair share of problems but nothing that has been that serious, except for the "check engine" light for the O2 sensor.
For about the last 4 months i've had the problem of the truck sometimes jerking while on the road. Once i started to speed up it seemed to not speed up which when it did, it jerked a bit. That was in the beginning.
AS OF NOW, the jerking has stopped but every now and then when i pull out of the garage and start to turn onto road it turns off, but all the status lights are left on. & when turn the key to turn it off and restart it starts again every time. Ive noticed that i was better off with the "check engine" light on then now because every time it is off it has these problems.
Also, when I barely start to tap the brake, again not all the time, sound skips on the radio. & this always happens when i tap on the brake & this happens more frequently when the "check engine" light is off.

I have a 2012 Prius 4 and my USB-connected iPod skips. I've tried 2 different USB cables and 3 different iPods. I also tried the vehicle in different driving modes (ECO, Power, EV) and the iPod skips every time. However, the iPod works perfectly when using the aux jack.
I took the car to the dealer and they applied a software update but the skipping persists. The dealer tried the iPod in another 2012 Prius and it skipped. They admit there is a problem but the dealer says nothing can be done until Toyota technical support gets enough complaints that they come up with a fix.

have had many problems with my 2003 Accent. I am not a mechanic, but I suspect the problems are related. My engine sometimes stalls when I sit at a red light. I drive about twenty miles to work. On a good day it will just sputter occasionally. On a bad day it will stall as many as three times. It also frequently "skips" a little while driving. It's like a split second hiccup in engine power.
I also used to have a really hard time filling the gas tank. It would take about fifteen minutes when close to empty. I have had it worked on three times over the past three weeks. First they replaced the timing belt (which I already knew needed to be replaced). Then they replaced something called a charcoal canister and blew out all the vapor vents(?) ( Again, I am not a mechanic). After that the car ran ok for about two days, and I can now fill the tank in about two minutes. But, it began stalling again, just as bad as before. So, they replaced something called a MAP sensor (MAFF?).
It has been a couple of days and the car hasn't stalled . . . yet. However, it still skips occasionally while driving, and my engine light has come on again. The mechanic says the code has something to do with a barometric pressure problem. what might be wrong with it?

I picked up a golf mk4 with low miles on it and have been working out the bugs - so far I changed out the dreaded power steering rack starter crank position sensor - dam theses cars are tough to work on but I actually enjoy it and could not have been successful without vwvortexx guiding me through- got a ton of suspension parts waiting for me to put in but I have this problem that's dogging me - searched like crazy couldn't find anything ...
When I adjust the steering column the engine "skips" and when I push the wheel in and out (as opposed to up and down) I can actually get the engine to cut out completely. (I should also mention that according to dealership receipts the PRNDL switch has been replaced along with repairs of wiring harness)...

My 1982 240D Mercedes Benz skips especially when accelerating. While it doesn't do it all the time, when it does it really loses power and comes almost to a crawl (at least 10 mph decrease in speed) and is quite annoying for me and probably for the drivers behind me, what's going on. My guess is that the fuel injectors are clogged as they have never been changed since the car's creation. When idling it does not skip; only when engaging and shifting through the gears (this is a manual transmission) especially when going up into third gear and fourth.
