Is there anything out there? My brakes are starting to squeak and squeal a little bit. I am guessing its coming from the rear as reading the forums the rears are biased and wear out first....
I would like to possibly do them all at once or at least make a purchase for everything at once....but looking for an upgrade.
My Treg has about 3K miles on it right now, and since I picked it up, the brakes have squealed (some times VERY loud, some times just a slight squeak at the end of the braking process). It is currently in the shop for the second time to get a fix for this or an adjustment, and I just got a call from my service advisor telling me there is nothing they can do to quiet the brakes--it is the nature of brakes to squeak and squeal.
I realize that brake dust (and man, there is a lot of that on this vehicle) can make the brakes squeal a bit, but does it even make sense that they would tell me that brakes are supposed to squeal?
I am also having a sticking door handle and a defective ac/heat control issue looked at while the Treg is in (I can illuminate both the "auto" and "econ" buttons at the same time, instead of one switching the other off). Should a vehicle at this price point have noisy brakes?
When opening the sunroof, usually for the first time in a day, the sunroof will make a squeal kind of noise. Nothing appears to be in the tracks or anything.
Usually if I close it, and reopen it, it seems to go away (guess it re-lubed?)
Kind of embarrassing on a newish car (2014) with only 30k miles.
My rear brakes started to squeal at 15k miles, only in reverse. Needless to say, the squealing got worse and now it sounds like metal on metal. It's at 21k now. I was suprised that the brakes would go out that soon, especially the rears first! I called the dealer and they said, "wow, I'm surprised they lasted that long, they usually only last about 15k". What about the rears going out first, "oh, VW's are designed that way, the rears go first, the pad material is really soft".
View 13 Replies2002 Passat wagon. I recently had my independent VW shop install new front and rear brake pads and rotors that I provided. The pads are PBR Axis Deluxe ceramic pads. Soon after, the front brakes started a high pitch squeal - mostly when cold or wet.
I took it back to the mechanic and he told me there is nothing he can do about it - I must have defective pads and that maybe they are covered under warranty, as they certainly need to be replaced, ...
This shocked me, especially the lack of customer service, but because I provided the pads I don't think I have much leverage with them other than not to do business with them again.
Is there any way to quiet a squeaking brake pad? Might the mechanic not done something he should have done to prevent squeaks?
Yesterday I had my snow tires installed at Costco. Immediately afterward I noticed that the rear brakes squeak when I apply the brakes. I took the car back to Costco and asked them if they applied the proper torque or if anything unusual appeared during the change-over. They said no.... I loosened and retorqued the wheels and no change......they still squeak when I apply the brakes.
Questions: I assume there are wear indicators on the rear pads, could this be causing the squeeling? If so, aren't they supposed to squeel all the time when they reach their limit? I haven't inspected the wear yet...... What the tolerance is for the amount of lining on the pad. Could this be a rotor problem? I"m not feeling any pedal vibration.
I have a 2002 passat and i have a squeak coming the front end of my car when i decelerate (let off the gas and coast, at low speeds). The car is a 5 speed. From other cars I have had, it sounds like it is the ebrake, like it kind of sticks on a little bit. When I coast while in neutral it does not do it. It also does it when I am in reverse, like leaving a parking spot.
View 6 RepliesI have a 1999 VW Passat 1.8T and the ABS light and Brake light come on from time to time but never steady for more than a few days at a time. I'm not sure why but my brakes work fine. The only possible thing is a squeak from the front brakes but they squeaked before the light came on. What this might be or how to fix it?

I have started to notice a high pitched squeal/squeak that occurs while sitting stopped with your foot on the brake...then let off the brake and take off and get this momentary squeak that doesn't continue (at least I can't hear it). It seems to stop once you get going again.
Seems to be coming from the passenger side front. I think I started noticing this after my most recent tire rotation and balance. What the brake wear indicator sounds like or if I will get an icon on the mfi when the brakes need service. The brakes do not squeal when in use. I currently have 27000 miles.
I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent with 116K miles on it. Recently it started to make a squealing noise when I start the car. The sound stays there for about 15-30 seconds and then goes away. Also, while the car is running and I start the AC for the first time the same noise sounds for another 15-30 seconds. I took the car to a local Midas store and they told me to replace two things. Alternator Serpentine Belt and Power Steering Pump V-Belt .Does the parts sound reasonable? I am really novice about car mechanism.
View 7 RepliesI have a squeal that I am pretty sure is coming from somewhere in the A/C compressor/pulley assembly. The trucks squeals on start up (more so when it is cold/damp outside) and then sometimes as I am driving. It doesn't matter if the a/c is on or off. I have also noticed that, while driving, the squeal occurs when I take my foot off the gas. At this point I have replaced the belt, the tensioner and the a/c pulley. I am about to change out the shims to see if that works, but also was wondering if it is possible for the clutch hub to wear down and go bad.

Now that cold weather is upon us in the Chicagoland area, I'm reminded of how irritating the brake squeal is on my car. While it's true it goes away as the brakes warm up, my drive to and from work is only ~15 minutes so the majority of my driving during the winter months is afflicted by the high pitched squeal.
I have a 2012 R with an OEM brake setup and the pads are close to being due for replacement. Need to getting rid brake squeal with any combo of rotors/pads/anti-squeal paste etc. I've searched this and other forums for an answer and all I've been able to find can be summed up as "that's what high performance VW brakes do, get used to it."
My R is a DD and doesn't get tracked so I don't need track caliper brakes. Basically I'm willing to trade performance in my quest to find a quiet brake setup.
I have had my 2011 model III for a month, and today I had to brake rather abruptly. I heard my tires squeal! Is this normal? I have owned at least two other vehicles with ABS, and I recall the pulsing of the pedal, but not tire squeal.

View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a used 2009 Kia Rio. I really am enjoying the car. While there is nothing fancy to it, it gets me to and from work and that's basically what I need. However, when I apply the brakes, there is a high-pitched squeal that is made until the car is almost at a stop. It does this I would say 90% of the time. The brakes work just fine and are in fact very sensitive. I've tried researching this online and it seems a lot of people have this problem because of the type of brake pad used. The dealership I purchased it from is more than an hour away from my home, so I am reluctant to drive down there if there really is nothing that will be done.
View 3 RepliesMy '07 GS350 recently began exhibiting brake squeal when brakes were gently applied. I subsequently took it to my dealer for a multipoint inspection, with the results being the car was fine, including the brakes. I was told the squeak was the result of brake dust, and nothing to worry about.
Since the inspection, I noticed the right front wheel is accumulating brake dust, but none of the others are; and the noise is irritating. I called my SA yesterday and explained the situation. He reviewed the car's service history, and noted the front pads were replaced with noiseless/dustless pads 40k miles ago. I agreed. He again said it was nothing to worry about. My thoughts are I'll have to put new pads on the front, even though the current ones are fine.
When I step on the brakes during traffic & released it to roll the wheels, I hear the brakes squeaking a few rounds & then it will disappear. It sounds like the brake is still engage with the rotor & doesn't fully release until a few roll. This happens more during warmer days.
View 6 RepliesI just purchased a used 2009 tiguan with 70k KM on it and I love it. thou the brake feels a little odd and I am not sure if this is normal. the brakes have a non-linear feel to it, and it squeals a little bit at very low speed.
the brake have a step feel to it. it feels like the first 1/3 or half is really not doing much, while at a certain point it brakes hard. when I am slowly releasing the brake when trying to move very slowly, it won't move at first, then all of a sudden it kind of jumps.
is this normal? or do I need to get something checked out?
Alright so my brakes squeak a lotttt and its really annoying and embarrassing. They feel fine stopping power wise, i dont get vibrations and the car doesnt pull to either side, I looked at my pads and it looks like i have a 1/4in left on them which im pretty sure is good. I really want this to go away... do we have electronic sensors telling us we need new pads? Untill then ill be partially using my hand brake to reduce the embarrassment.
