I installed new plugs and ignition coils in my 2008 Passat 3.6L V6 and now I have a slight bog when accelerating hard. Engine runs good otherwise and no codes. I gapped new plugs @ 1.0mm per manual. The old plugs had smaller gap. Would larger plug gap cause the bog?

I have a feather light foot and it was a gradual acceleration off the traffic lights. It felt like it hesitated and jerked forward. The incident occurred 2x over 3 weeks, and it is hard to replicate.

What the problem is?
So I put in a Neuspeed torque arm insert, and that has worked with shifting from 1st to 2nd when accelerating hard. But in my '96 Jetta M5 speed I could throw the shifter around into any gear (except 1st if going fast) at any speed.
With the Passat what I find is that I while I can move quickly to a particular gate, I have to enter the gate slowly. I am thinking this is due to having 6 speeds (narrower gates to fit in same space so I have to be more precise), but then I wonder.
When shifting normally, it is very smooth, it is just when I try to shift fast that I notice this. And it happens even when I am shifing fast "but not" accelerating and the engine is not under load. So this happens when I try to downshift from 6th (at 2,000 rpm) to 5th/4th. Notice this when I am doing 50-60 in 6th and then try to quickly drop into a lower gear to get through a yellow light before it changes.
The solution has been to shift fast to the gate and then slowly push it in, but I still have the old reflexs from the Jetta were it was one fast movement.
Was having a hard time shifting fast from 1st to 2nd when accelerating hard, it was like something was blocking the 2nd gear gate, same thing sometimes when downshifing fast from 6th to 5th.
After JT recommending it here, I installed the Neuspeed torque arm insert. Used a scissor jack on the left front side (it has a wide base), got under the car from the front bumper passenger side. 21mm bolt was tight, but got it out with a regular length 1/2 inch socket bar. Insert was hard to get in (even after spraying silicone on it), finally just sprayed silicone into the existing bushing and the insert slipped right in.
First test drive really made it easy to shift from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration only a slight bump when entering the 2nd gear gate, downshifing was smooth too. Down side? none that I noticed, no vibration.
I just purchased a 2008 passat, 2.0T 6spd manual last night and I noticed today, when sitting at a stop sign it has slight idle issues, (goes up about 200-400rpms) then back down to normal idle. Doesn't seem to be causing any issues, its just pretty annoying, and everyone next to me thinks I'm trying to race them.

View 4 RepliesSo, I have heard a little bit about the oil pump bolt issue. However, I am still confused. Was this issue fixed for the 2008 model and what are the symptoms? I changed out my valve cover last night due to a PCV valve failure. The car is running great except there is a slight rattling sound coming from the drivers side of the engine at idle. I know I left nothing around the car that could have gotten in the motor when the valve cover was off. This issue was not happening before changing the valve cover. What could be causing this noise, or is it typical for this motor?
View 3 RepliesOk so the wife and I were heading home, she was in her 2.0t sedan, I was in my 3.6 4motion wagon. I got stuck behind a slow driver on the highway (doing 50 in a 70 mph zone) so I get in the passing lane and I floor it to pass him. When I get home, my wife tells me she saw a good amount of black/blue smoke coming out my tail pipes when I went to pass the other driver. This is on a engine with 2400 miles.
I take a look, and the chrome exhaust tips I had installed not long ago are now all black, covered in a oily thick residue. These same exhaust tips were on my previous 07 3.6 4motion wagon for 10k miles and was still shiny when I took them off. but after about 1k miles on the 08, they are now all black. I check the oil and it still reads full.
So what could this black smoke and this oily residue on the exhaust tips be caused by? should I be concerned? Engine runs fine with the exception of sometimes stalling when trying to start it after a short stop. (VAG-COM doesn't show any error codes logged.
Just bought a 2010 Prius with 48k miles. I'm noticing what feels like a slight slipping when rapidly accelerating, or that's what I would call it in any other car. It's barely noticeable, and my only concern is if this is the beginning of a transmission issue.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2009 Camry LE with ~65k miles on it and I've had it for a month. I notice that every time I start the car when the engine is cold and accelerate for the first time, there's this little clicking noise. It's very subtle and in the beginning, I hardly noticed it- but now I notice it and I'm freaking out a little.
It only happens on a cold start and it happens once for the entire trip...just when I'm increasing speed that first time.
So, lately I've noticed a slight fluttering sound in my '08 GS460 when accelerating on the freeway or up a slight incline. It'll kick in around 2,000-4,000 RPM, and it almost sounds like it's coming from right underneath the center console. I did have an exhaust system installed, then uninstalled, so maybe it's something the shop did, but can't be positive whether or not it was there before (always drive with my music on pretty loud).

Only issue I am noticing is when accelerating at take off, once the car gets up to speed I notice a slight, quick pull to the left and then its fine. I sometime feel this pull when turning to right(like around curves).
View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 Corolla CE I bought recently that had 45K miles on it (it has a 4spd auto with O/D).
When accelerating from a stop, I usually take it very slow and I notice that there is a slight jerk most of the time.....it's sort of like I can feel the gears engage. This doesn't happen all the time and it doesn't seem to happen if I accelerate fast.
I did a transmission drain & fill with Royal Purple MaxATF (the drain & fill was only once).
1) Is this normal for this transmission? Also, is there a "pan drop" for this transmission? The mechanic only removed the drain bolt...he did not do the pan drop.
2) During my work commute, I'm in a lot of rush hour traffic where it moves for short distances at 5-10mph. It will shift from 1st to 2nd a lot of times...is better to just put the car in 1st (L) gear? My mechanic said no because it will heat up the transmission faster.
I have a 2002 Ford F150. 273,000 miles on it. When I am going about 50 mph and I start down a hill and let off the gas a bit and then when at the base of the hill I push on the gas to accelerate then sometimes it does a weird hesitation or slight "lurch" but it is NOT in the engine. The engine continues to run smoothly during this lurch. It only happens between 45 and 55 mph. It only seems to happen when I am trying to accelerate out of a coast. I had the dealer check underneath thinking it might be a u-joingt? They said everything underneath seems to be in good shape. Someone told me to consider Ring and Pinion Slop problem in the rear differential? When I read about that it seems that it normally makes a noise. There is no noise with my truck's problem.

View 3 RepliesThe problem started with a slight hesitation around 2500 under hard acceleration. Then it became more pronounced from 2 to 3.5k. The CEL would blink when it happened for more than a few seconds. Eventually the CEL stayed on. Now the car idles roughly with a periodic thump feeling, and any time a load is put on the engine, it feels very rough. I don't have VAG-COM, so I don't have any codes.

Doesn't seem to be coming from the engine compartment, maybe from under the dash, it is very brief, a couple of seconds tops and sounds a bit like pressurizing a container just before the valve closes. Not an issue, not even a nuisance, but I am curious about it.
