We just past 1000 miles on our new 08 2.0T wagon and there is '0' oil consumption. The dipstick reads completely full. And...it is noticeably cleaner than our 06 2.0T after 1000 miles (after oil changes).
View 6 RepliesI have a 2007 accent. I just changed the oil and filter. I typically don't look at the dipstick after I change the oil but this time I did. The dipstick is ready a good 1/4 inch over full after the change. I started the car and let it run for a while and it still reads the same.
I don't see how I put too much oil in, but I am paranoid that I did. Is it typical for this model to read a little over full on the dipstick?
When you first pull out your dipstick on a touareg v-10 it will show no oil at all. but when you check it a second or third time it reads fine.
View 9 RepliesGas gauge went from about 1/4 to full in about 3 seconds and hasn't moved since. 2000 B3000 Mazda 3.0 V-6 auto. I've checked all the instrument cluster fuses (11,26,33). I know of the method of disconnecting the connector at the gas tank to see if its the sending unit or the gauge but I can't see or feel in there good enough to do that. Would either one go bad that quickly? Doesn't seem likely to me.
I've read about a "slosh sensor" in a post on this forum - does my truck even have that? I've had an intermittent wiper problem a couple of times but the multifunction switch wouldn't be involved would it? I'm just trying to see if there might be a simple fix before I add it to my repair list when I take it to have the ball joints replaced.
Fuel gauge reads full all the time except when the key is off. Also the temp gauge reads low. Just barely on the mark for normal.
View 9 RepliesFull tank and the gauge reads empty. Has happened to me a few times. Occurs after a fillup and disappears after the car is left to sit for a while off. I would hate for this to happen on a long drive. Dealer hasn't been able to duplicate the issue. Am wondering if this might be related to the hiccup in some way. Also, am wondering if this is a fuse issue.
View 8 RepliesSo I had the brakes services yesterday at a new shop in town. Normally I wouldn't do this, I like to do it myself. After I dropped the truck off I get a call a while later and the service tech tells me that the passenger front caliper is the wrong one. He says it's actually for the drivers side, but who ever did the brakes last just flipped it upside down and put it on the passenger side. So in essence, I have two drivers side calipers on the front of my truck.
I got under ther and looked and the bleeder screw is on the bottom on the passenger side. I would assume it's supposed to be on the top like the others?
So here's my questions......
1. Is it even possible to put the drivers side on the passenger side (upside down?)
2. Is it really the wrong caliper? It has been working for over two years like this with no ill effects.
3. Should I worry about it if in fact it is the wrong caliper?
I've never done the brakes on this truck actual truck myself. I really hate taking things to the shop because you never know if they are trying to scam you, which I'm pretty sure they were. I left there with only new pads...
Dipped the oil today... and the dipstick came out completely dry. Put it back in again and it came out showing oil halfway between min and max.

I have a 2009 Accord. Twice on long trips (~40 miles) in the rain, the car started missing badly, and the check engine light began blinking on and off. The first time, I pulled over and shut it off, restarted it, and everything was fine. A few weeks later, I took it for an oil change, and told the mechanic about it. He checked for codes, but there were none. The next time it happened (again on a rainy day on the same 40 mile route), I shut it off, turned it on, and drove straight to the dealer. He said it was 2.5 qts low on oil, and that could make it act that way. I check my oil regularly, so I was really surprised at that. It hasn’t happened again, but now I’m really obsessive about checking (and recording) oil. It’s always full, never low – except that twice, after the car has sat all day in cold weather, the dipstick was dry. I drove it home (a couple of miles), let it sit for an hour and checked the oil to find it full both times. I’m religious about changing the oil, so I doubt that there’s sludge in there…

I turned on the car (2003 Chevy Venture) today and the "Low Engine Oil" display came on. I checked the oil (car had been parked on a flat surface overnight and engine was cold) and the oil was about 1/3 of the way up the dipstick, which is way, WAY past the full line. I let the car sit and warm up a little, checked again and the same level appeared. I am wondering what that means. After being on for a minute or so the engine oil light went off.
The check engine light has been on for about two days and when I went to check it yesterday the error code was p0171. Are the two related? Is there an easy fix for this or is this a sign of a serious problem?
My friend has an 08 4.6. He has replaced the thermostat with 3 different ones all with different temps, still nothing. Temp gauge reads normal but after driving it for a bit he can take off the radiator cap while it's running and not get sprayed in the face with coolant, almost like there is no pressure in the system.
View 6 RepliesMy girlfriend each week has to add at least a quart of tranny fluid. There are no apparent spots on the garage floor. The problem started last week when the engine light came on and she found herself sitting on the side of the road with her daughters in Nevada's 100+ heat.
I don't understand where the fluid could be going unless it leaks out when she is driving... but you would think that when she parks it, some would still drip off onto the floor and this is not the case.
Dealership said the only thing they did was change the oil on the car before they put it up for sale. Yesterday when I went to take my wife and kids out for their first drive in the F. I popped the hood and told her that I wanted to check the oil level before we left, she was watching as I went to pull the dipstick and it wouldn't come out! I tried to twist it and pull hard but it wouldn't budge? I'd didn't want to pull too hard as I didn't want to break the top off, but am at a loss as to why it would be stuck like that? Is there some special way to take the dipstick out that I'm doing wrong here? Or could they have shoved it in too far? Guess I have to deal with my first issue with the car...
View 14 RepliesHave a 2001 Passat V6 Manual 105000 Miles, Always used synthetic oil and changed every 5000 miles. After oil change, maybe around 3000-3500 miles oil level goes down to close to minimum. Roughly i'm burning little over a quart every 5000 Miles. Is this normal?? BTW there are no leaks/spots, no burning smell, no smoke coming out.
View 8 RepliesAlright so every 3-4 weeks I have to put about a quart of oil in the car. Its sometimes less, sometimes more. I HAD an oil leak from the passenger side valve tensioner gasket cover. I had the pcv system replaced and all new gaskets. No more oil leak. BUT, I still seem to be losing oil. I can't afford a quart or more every 3-4 weeks. I've looked all over the engine and underneath and haven't found any oil. If this persists, I might trade in and get a 24v VR6 GLI. I've had more small things go wrong with this car and its starting to piss me off. At least with a 24v I can get more power mods....

I have 108,000 miles on it and mostly performs great except that my cabin lights are dead (moon roof still works, dash lights even the lights in the doors for the windows and locks light up but not the cabin lights and I can't find a dead fuse anywhere and the dealer looked at it for an hour with no luck). Mine is pretty intermittent at least over the last 6 months, but my temp gauge no longer reads anything and I've gotten a CEL twice now, this second time I pulled the code at autozone with an answer of 1106. I've had my 90k maintenance with the timing belt/water pump/coolant flush service.
I've also noticed when starting it up in the morning I'm getting quite a varnish smell out of it that my wife's 07 Rabbit doesn't produce and my mileage is still around 25 mpg for a 5 mile commute.
Now I see this is a pretty cheap part, so I'm going to wrench it myself but... where the heck is it? I've done the electrical replacement on my 96 jetta wolfsburg that had the 2.0 in it which was pretty easy but my passat seems to be hiding everything under the hood with fancy engine covers and stuff.
So 3 weeks ago, I noticed the malfunction indicator lamp came on. I immediately went to the Auto Zone and have them use the diagostnic device to identify the "malfunction". The device pulls out "p1136 manufactured controlled fuel and air metering." The guy said it could be the gas cap being loose so he loosens it and tightens it. He said he would erase the message and advised me to go to an auto mechanic shop if the lamp light shows up. That evening the light lit up.
I haven't driven that car for approx 3 days then I drove it to go get gas. After I got gas, the light disappeared. I dunno why. It stayed disappeared until several days later. So, i am wondering...is it a big a problem? can i still drive?

View 13 RepliesI just don't get what causes the Passat 1.8T to have worse fuel economy than expected considering its 0.27 drag coefficient, 3200lbs curb weight, and 4 cylinder 1.8t engine compared to a 3,500lbs 3.4 liter V6 0.31 cod Impala. I mean a new Ford Escape NON Hybrid SUV will get the fuel economy on the highway as a 1.8T Passat and that's sad considering that the Escape has the drag coefficient of a brick and the B5.5 Passats are among the 10 most aerodynamic cars ever sold in North America.
