Have a 2008 B6 3.6 sedan. This car for 2008 comes equipped with a sport suspension and 18" wheels. This car is real noisy on the road especially if the road surface is anything but very smooth. The tires are noisy but the sport suspension seems rough on unsmooth roads. I would like to know if different shocks would make a difference. I want the taught control of course but with better compliance over rough areas.
View 3 RepliesI have a bothersome bottoming out type of noise coming from near my empty trunk or underneath the trunk area. I have the 17" stock rims with stock mich. tires. I had VW check for the rubber rear shock absorber plate which I do have. I Have the rear tire secured as well as the battery. I have insulated the hard foam tool storage kit so it will not bounce going over irregular surfaces. Yet I still get this sound like a loose bar hitting against the underneath on less than perfect roads.
View 5 RepliesMy 2008 rear suspension creaks and squeaks and groans when I move my horse trailer. Truck has 32k miles, has done since purchase last year, squirted wd 40 and that works. At ford place now, they say it is because I added the ride rite air bags. Told them it made same sound before I installed. What to tell them (tech service bulletins ?) or give up and keep spraying and looking for dry joint?

At my 30,000 mile service about 6 weeks ago I reported to the service manager that the suspension seemed noisy at low speed over undulating side roads. They could not duplicate the noise. Now with the cold weather, the noise has increased considerably to the extent that my wife who claims never to hear any of the noises I obsess about, asked me what is that knocking noise
I have made an appointment at my dealership first thing on Monday and they are going to ride with me and if necessary use the "chassis ears".
From everything I have read it has to be control arm bushings or the air suspension. I think the fact it has worsened considerably now the temperature has dropped eliminates the brake pad rattle possibility.
In cold weather, front suspension is very noisy. I've replaced stabilizer bar bushings, stabilizer bar links, control arms (complete with new bushings and ball joints). A few months prior, I replaced struts with Monroe quick struts. Noise appears when I hit a pot hole or go over a speed bump. Not really a creaking, almost like a slapping sound. I've taken a look at motor mounts and they look OK. Now that the weather is warm there's no noise. Rack and pinion were replaced about a year ago so engine cradle was removed. I removed it and reinstalled. Also installed new tie rod ends and lubed the inner tie rod joints.
View 3 RepliesI have elantra 2012 with approx mileage of 47,000 kms. I started to fell that the front suspension becoming noisy while driving slowely on the bumps and rough roads. This noise feels even on steering wheel that this has some connection to steering rod in somewhere.
I had took the car to local dealership here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where the kept the car for about a weak and return it say that the car is fixed, but the noise was there or came back in days only.
Second time, the same thing happened, approached the dealership they took and hand over the car, removing some air from all 4 tires a (which i have noticed). but the problem remains the same.
I have noticed as well that the car is not so stable on the roads while driving at different speeds.
1998 4X4. My rear suspension is so loud and noisy it's driving me crazy. I've soaked the thing many times with wd40 but it doesnt seem to work or work not more than a day or two.
I've tried to make a pic with my phone because I think at the rear side of the leafs they are separating way too much... I've got no more than about 150lbs and a LPG-tank on my bed...
Moreover I think my truck rides bad. I know it's no Cadillac and I'm running 33s and its a 4x4 BUT I've got quite new Rancho shocks and the whole front suspension is in good shape and it got an alignment a month ago...
So what do you think, after 181.000mls time to get new rear leafs or take the old ones apart, free them from the rust, paint & grease them and put them back together?
I just had the rear air compressor suspension replaced, but when it activates it sounds pretty noisy. It doesn't sound normal. What the heck is going on?

View 19 RepliesI just purchased a 2010 Corolla LE with 21,000 miles and I am wondering if I just made an immense mistake. I raised the question during the test drive and the salesman said all Corollas sound and ride the same, his wife had one, etc., telling me it's fine.
I badly needed to replace my old car and bought, despite my misgivings. Now that I own it, the road noise is staggering. Truly stunning and unpleasant. Or, from a bit of reading here, perhaps it's the tires. Really?
And every bump reverberates through my whole body and sounds like bad shocks. Whomp, whomp, whomp, down the road! But this is a certified car and supposedly they would have checked shocks/struts or whatever is there.
I have an 08 Passat 2.0T with 44k on it, just did the 40k service around 42k. This past Friday I filled up from almost completely empty, and later that day and ever since the engine has been idling rough and the CEL came on. Gas cap has been checked already.
Should I wait to go to the Stealership until I've burned this tank of gas out? Is there anything else I can do that you can think of?
My new Sonata Limited 2.4 has 17" wheels and Kumho tires. On certain rough concrete, or more often asphalt road surfaces, at highway speeds, this car is so noisy that one can hardly carry on a conversation. It's terribly loud. Dealer has "checked" it, and tire dealer has looked at the tires. No problem has been found. What can be done about this?
View 77 RepliesOur 2.0T (2008 Passat Komfort Wagon) with 70K miles is sitting in a mall parking lot and won't turn over. The lights and accessories all function just fine, and don't change/benefit from a battery jump. DRLs and all dash indicators light up like normal.
We push in the key fob and absolutely nothing happens. No error messages or anything. I tried a half dozen times; no change. Two things to know:
1) The car is under a recall for defective Electronic Steering Column Lock. I understand this can invoke the immobilizer? Car does seem immobilized. (I hadn't gotten the car in for the recall.)
2) The car recently ran rough and threw an Emissions system code. I hadn't gotten that code read, yet, but the roughness sorted itself out. I think this is unrelated and may be a case of "car wash syndrome" as my wife and son occasionally run the car for a minute or less to move it from the driveway to the street.
I have a 2008 Gen II with an increasingly noisy front wiper linkage. It squeaks rather loudly. I know the noise is not the wiper blades on the glass because I've lifted the wiper blades, turned on the wipers, and get exactly the same noise. Any way to lubricate the linkage?
View 3 RepliesFirst off it's NOT the strut mounts or bearings. I just wasted a bunch of money installing new ones. Hard to tell if the noise is only on the driverside, but its not just at low speeds. Kind of a clunking during up/down movement.

Use the recommended oil and ford oil filter. Had truck for 1.5 years now. Never noticed this until lately. Oil level fine.????? What is going on??
View 7 RepliesMy 2008 Honda Element is approaching 100k miles and from what I read on the Element forums it's imperative that I have the valves adjusted.
I called several Honda dealers and they said, they're to be adjusted only if noisy.A local mechanic said he adjusts them only if the engine is skipping.
From what I read with Honda, if they are noisy (relatively speaking) then thats good; "A noisy lifter is a happy lifter". A tight (quiet lifter) can result in a burnt valve.
Are these cars supposed to be this noisy? I have an 06 passat 2.0t its rather noisy. I'm not sure if its supposed to be this way or what. Any videos with your car idling?
View 5 RepliesI have a 3.6L V6 2006 Passat and every time I accelerate, I hear this Tin-Can-like hollow noise from the engine amost like a rattle from the exhaust. Finally I was at the dealer today and I mentioned it. The mechanic came out to the car and could hear it as I revved the engine. We kind of isolated it to the FSI pump... there was also a very audible ticking noise from the engine like in the old days with valves.... He couldn't tell what's causing it?
Unfortunately they didn't have another used or client's V6 Passat VW on the lot to compare the noise to see if it is normal. Mine has 22,000 km on it. He also said a new one may not have it at first while the car is still new and tings tighter, but as one puts some mileage on it he thought the noise may start becoming louder. It makes the car feel like a cheap japanese car, rather than a nice tight engine noise one gets from a german car...
