My 2008 FSI makes a dry noise when i turn the steering wheels in either direction. I've been looking for a solution and so far I've found none. What can it be?
View 10 RepliesAbout 5 years ago, my air conditioner started making a metallic-sounding grinding noise, when it is turned OFF. This noise goes away if the A/C is on. My mechanic said some part was slightly bent, bent it back, and this fixed it for a while. Eventually the noise came back but was intermittent. I drove the car for years hoping it would go away, leaving the A/C on most of the time. The noise is no longer intermittent, and my new mechanic says that it seems louder than before and if I don't get it fixed, it might cause the car to stall out. He offered to bypass it with a belt or replace the unit. What this could be? I drive with the A/C on now. 1998 geo prizm
View 3 RepliesMy girlfriend has an 04 Passat Wagon (dunno how many miles on the odo), and it makes a groaning noise that gets louder and more pronounced the more she cranks the wheel. She took it in a few weeks ago to a place that specializes in European cars, and they changed the serpentine belt. Since then, the issue has gotten worse.
My very limited knowledge tells me that it might be the power steering pump, but I know next to nothing about this sort of thing, and even less than that w/re to VWs, except that the Germans sometimes engineer things a bit differently than most of the rest of the world. For all I know, the car doesn't even have a power steering pump and uses some other sort of electro-mechanical method to operate.
My girlfriends car is making noise while turning and I'm sure it is cv axles i have done them before on my old jetta so I'm sure i can do it.
Question is I'm just not sure which ones she needs it is a automatic and I don't see any wires going to the caliper but i have not removed the wheel to check and the dealer said that the front is abs and the rear is not so I am lost here is the vin.

View 2 RepliesMy 2010 RX350 started to make 'hum - hum - hum' noise whiling turning. It is fine while driving straight, only makes this noise while on a curve. If I disable traction control, the noise seems going away, at least it is a lot less.
View 3 RepliesI havent had my 2000 taurus too long.... Last week a knocking noise started. It usually happens when I am turning but there have been a few times it does it when I am braking. It doesn't happen right away - just after I've been driving for at least 15 minutes or so....
I got this looked at last weekend at by a mechanic and they drove it and didnt hear a thing and supposedly things underneath looked okay. I can tell that things ARE NOT OKAY. Also, since this knocking started, my alignment seems to have gotten off a bit. I may be a blonde but I've had enough problems with past cars that I usually know what I'm talking about!!!!
We just bought a 2011 XC90 in Jan 2011. About a week ago we noticed that when you are using the brake and turning a corner there is a weird noise coming from the front end. It only does it at low speeds. It doesn't do it if you turn and you are not pressing the brakes. You can also feel it in the brake pedal as well. I hope this makes sense. We love this car and really don't want to regret that we bought it. Just really confused on how a 2 month old vehicle can be already making a weird noise.

View 11 RepliesSo I own a Dodge Caliber 2007 and it has about 170K miles. This car has been through a lot of trips from IN to PA and many other long trips. A few months ago it started to sound very odd. It's a four cylinder and it sounds like it is only running on three. I don't know too much about cars but the problems that it's facing is that sound for one, it is stuttering in a kind of way, like it's about to die. Also when I accelerate and make a sharp right turn it will start to die and will die on most occasions. This is very dangerous considering it has power steering and I can't maneuver when it does die. Also, I'm not sure if this is related at all, but the front left turn signal and the back right turn signal does not work. It isn't the lights as I have changed them 2 other times, I have been told it might be the computer module but I'm not sure.
View 18 RepliesNew owner of a GX 460. Noticed that when driving in the parking garage and turning around the corners, the wheels make screeching noise. the GX 460 is not a very big SUV but it feels like i'm driving a huge truck when trying to turn.
And also need confirmation that during normal driving, the central differential should be disconnected, which means a yellow icon showing on the dial, i.e., a yellow icon that shows a cross in between the four wheels.
I have a 2004 Honda CR-V, 100k, just did its 90k maintenance (a little late) and also had the ball joints replaced. Brought back from the mechanic and heard clicking sound when turning wheel hard left or hard right, only at low speeds, usually when parallel parking or simply sitting in park, turning wheel back and forth. Right back to the mechanic: they checked it out, re-lubricated everything, drove it, said it was OK. I got it home, still clicking. Safe to drive this weekend? It's back to the shop on Monday.
View 1 RepliesJetta starts making a noise on the front left side when I turn sharp rights like in parking lots. There is no VW dealer within a 2hr drive. Take it to local auto repair shop. The guy says it's the wheel bearings on the front left. The Jetta makes a different sound originating from the left front than originally still when turning right sharply.
BTW this sound isn't very loud and is not grinding or popping more of a whoopwhooopwhoooop Go home take off tire. One lugbolt twists off with fingers. First bad sign. Rotors on front not pretty but pretty smooth brake pads look brand new. Still really thick no uneven wear.
Do a sharp left u turn to get to auto parts store. Afs/bulb failure pops on. Solid warning light yet all the bulbs are working fine.
Turn car off. Go buy rotors. Ask about light no one knows. Go back out start car. Light is gone.. okay that was weird.
Replace rotors anyway so they are nice and shiny lube up the important parts. Put everything back together.back out of garage stupid bulb light is back on... restart jetta Its off.
Start driving everything sounds fine... parking lot test left turns quiet right turn SAME FREAKING NOISE. It has never made any noise when driving straight or on curvy road just sharp right turns.
a few times when making a tight turn on hilly terrain or a hill on a road, I've noticed a grinding sound in the front of the truck and a vibration in the steering wheel. I've so far chalked this up to the hill assist feature, but today I was on relatively flat ground in a parking lot with a dip in it. While crossing the dip in a tight turn, I noticed the same thing again.
I've checked the tires/wheel wells and there is no rubbing, etc.
I have 2012 sentra with CVT transmission & 60,000 miles. I just got 60,000 miles service done. Service adviser called me to let me know that I need to have replaced upper strut bearing on the front (left & right) replaced because they are making clunking noise when turn wheels or parking. When I asked for the reason why they should go bed he told me that it's normal, some sand other debris could clog there or water could have damaged it.
View 4 RepliesAn odd noise just started recently where as I'm turning left, a popping noise happens seemingly right under my feet. I don't have a video, but I can probably try to take one later. It sounds like something is loose and when the weight shifts off of the left side of the truck, something is shifting and groaning.
I lifted the truck up yesterday and there is no play in the ball joints, wheel bearings, sway bar/end links, or tie rod ends. There is no play in the shock or in the spring, nor is there any movement in the radius arm or where the axle mounts to the body.
I should probably add some info on the truck. '00 V10 CCSB 2wd. I can't see anything out of the ordinary, and can't reproduce the sound unless the truck is in motion.
Where the horn is mounted on 2.0T? The regular "honk" horn, not the separate alarm horn. Horn is sounding a bit muffled and I wanted to check for a loose bracket or debris/wet leaves, etc. I took a quick look and couldn't spot it.
View 8 Replies Yesterday evening I started up my 2008 variant 3.6 4motion after it had been sitting for about 24 hours. It started up right away but immediately started making a clanging racket that sounded just like an old Mercedes Diesel that needs a tuneup. It was such a loud and odd noise that at first I thought it was another car or truck pulled up next to me!
After about 5-10 seconds it settled down and idled normally--no warning lights, no leaks, no performance issues. I took it on a ~7 mile mixed freeway and surface streets drive with A/C off and on and it ran like a champ, then it sat again for a couple of hours before the return trip and started up & got us home with no problem.
It definitely wasn't the normal injector noise and it wasn't the emissions SAI (Secondary Air Injection) pump either. Since it's a 2008 (and since it's still running) I'm ruling out the oil pump bolt. The accessory v-belt and tensioner look fine and engine oil level/pressure are good, too.
We're experiencing our first real hot weather of the summer (low 90s) and it had been baking in the sun all day, so I'm wondering if the temperature caused pinging on startup before the ECU adapted?
Today, of course, it was normal. Have any other 3.6 drivers ever had this happen?
Have a factory touch screen radio (not sure which one it is) no Navi, but its a 2010 Passat, mine sounds like crap, especially when playing though an IPOD. Put the same music on an SD card and it sounded much better. I literally have only had the car less than a week, and am contemplating going and taking out all the speakers and replacing them with aftermarket stuff.

It's done about 8300kms so far and I've noticed awhile ago that the car makes clunking noise when I'm turning the steering wheel a lot at low speed (eg. car parks). I'll probably book in for a oil change and ask the service centre to look into it.
View 6 RepliesMy 2008 Acura with 80k+ miles seems to be making a noise when I drive, when I brake. Speed doesn't seem to make a difference although it doesn't start until after I have been driving for a few minutes. Sounds like it is coming from the rear passenger side. I have no clue as to what it could be.
