I have a 2007 passat and it makes a whistling sound while idling or when I am driving except for when I am actually pressing the gas. Additionally the EPC and check Engine lights came on. What the problem could be? This is my first VW and I am really just use to Honda.
View 5 RepliesSo I noticed when it started getting cold that my Jeep emits this extremely high pitched whistling sound and I can't figure out what's going on. I've taken it to two mechanics and both said it was a belt that needed to be replaced so I had the belt replaced and the noise persisted. I've noticed a few things about the noise, it only happens when it is approximately 30 degrees outside or lower; only while the car is idling (when I accelerate the noise goes away immediately); It only happens after I've gone above approximately 30mph; The noise will go away after I've gone through a series of idling and accelerating; and stops immediately once I turn the car off. The Jeep is almost up to 150,000 miles.
View 4 RepliesToday in the morning it was slightly cold so I turned on the heat in my car. The fan started making a loud whistling sound and in about 2 minutes it stopped. Is this a sign of a bad fan?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 Honda Accord. A few weeks ago, it started making a whistling noise whenever I was in reverse, however, it would stop when I hit the brakes. Then I notices a very similar noise while driving, again if I break, it stop. Also, if I go over 45mph or so, it stops. Just yesterday I notices a grinding noise/feeling when braking but only when the brake all the way down. What this could be?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2000 Passat V6 with about 75k miles. This week, my car has been making these piercing/whistling noises regardless of whether or not I'm pressing the gas. It usually occurs from 20-50 mph. Above 50 mph, there is no noise. The noise eminates from under the car, mostly on the right hand side. My brakes screech too, but they've been doing that for about 2 months now. And that screeching is a different noise.

View 2 RepliesI have a strange whistling sound coming from the blower motor inside the cabin. Sometimes it stops when I accelerate and sometimes it stops when I come to a complete stop. It's very strange. The heat seems to work just fine and I have no VAG COM errors. What this could be or how to fix it?
View 19 RepliesMy 2007 Honda Fit (sport) has been having this problem for a while (6+ months)... It used to happen both while moving and idling.The car will suddenly make a jerking motion (like a lesser version of stalling a manual transmission car). No real sound involved, just the car shakes, sometimes a few times in a row. The engine does not stall, nothing else happens. Not being a really knowledgeable car person, I took it to a shop... they did a massive tune up on it (second time spark plugs were replaced in 30k miles)... $500 or so bucks later, the car works fine again... for 6 months... then it comes back, the "dry heaving" motion now only happens while idling... like sitting at a stop light. It does not happen in neutral. It does not happen in park. If it happens while moving it is much more subtle than it used to be.Car has 158,000 miles on it. Purchased it used at 89,000 miles. It has no codes, and has been checked a few times. It is an automatic transmission.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2004 Camry (2.4 Ltr engine) with 120k miles on it. 2 days ago a whistling/whining noise began after I had been running errands & restarted my car after being parked for about 20 minutes.
If my car has been sitting and the engine is cold (like when I get up in morning to go to work) the noise doesn't start until it gets to the 3rd line above the "C" on the temp gauge. It's a constant sound while idling or driving, except when I am accelerating. The noise seems to be originating from around the alternator, but hard to tell exactly. I have no Check Engine, battery or other indicator lights showing. Other than this mystery noise my car is running fine.
I am the original owner of a 2007 Camry SE V6 with 95K miles.The car has been meticulously maintained. About 2 weeks ago I started to notice a mysterious sound coming from the passenger side of the engine ONLY when the engine is idling. It has a higher, light pitch but when revving the engine slightly it goes away. Obviously when driving it can not be heard with all the other road noise etc. Also it makes this sound at different times, sometimes days with no noise, very irregularly. I checked that section of the engine bay and see no moisture, leakage or discoloration anywhere. Also serpentine belt shows no wear or wobble. Could it come from the water pump? I am very concerned that something will soon snap off, break and leave me stranded.
View 6 RepliesMy 2007 Hyundia Santa Fe has an erratic knocking/clicking sound when idling & has for about 6 months or so. Other than the clicking noise it drives just fine. I am wondering if this may be a result of a bad oil change experience I had in 2012. I'll explain ....
When driving home, once the car had warmed up, my oil pressure warning light came on whenever I came to a stop or idling. I thought this was strange but thought maybe it had to do with new oil fill & would go away.
All I knew was I didn't have the problem before the oil change - nor have I ever in all the time I have owned the car - seen the oil pressure light come on and stay on once the car is started. So I brought the car into Hyundai as soon as I could to explain the situation. They opened the oil filter compartment and quickly realized that whoever changed the filter neglected to put back a part that sits on top of the filter that regulates the oil pressure (only a $15 part without which the damage & cost of driving without is potentially huge).
There is more, but I think you get the drift. So, I am wondering if possible damage as a result of that faulty oil change might have something to do with my current problem or is it not possible given the time/km between when that happened and now? The car had just over 80,000 km at the time and currently has aprox 105,000. I have properly maintained the oil etc since that as well as prior to.
I own a 2005 Sienna CE with about 100,100 miles. In the past couple of weeks, I noticed that when I go into reverse, the car makes a whistling noise. At first I thought it was when I press on the brakes but it appears to make the noise even when not braking. It does not do this all the time; only sometimes. It appears to do it more when reversing and going down a slope.
I tried googling this but couldn't find anything. Some people say the brakes which were all replaced a couple of months ago.
Not sure if it is related but the car also makes low chirping noise when driving about 40 miles per hour.
I had this same problem in my toyota celica recently. I discovered that it was the air vent making the whistling noise. I had closed the vent, or so I thought. Due to age, the vent is a little loose and so when I had it "closed", it was actually open just enough to create the sound. After some fiddling with the vent opener, I managed to make the noise go away.
View 1 RepliesMy car developed an "intermittent" accelerator whistling noise coming thru one of the speakers (I think). The harder you accelerate - the louder the whistle. When idling, it sounds like an open air whirring noise. Of course every time I bring it to the shop - it stops and when I hear it it's never convenient to get to the shop!

Once everything warms up the steering looses power at low rpm and starts making whistling noises around the steering wheel and can also be herd outside the car somewhere.
I have just replaced the power steering pump and flushed the system. I also replaced the belt and tensioner at the same time.
Air has been bled from the system and i have checked everywhere for leaks and cant see any and I am not loosing any fluids. But I still have a lack of power and the whistle noise sounds like it is sucking air into the system somewhere..
I still get some small bubbles coming up in the reservoir even tho i have bled the system soo many times now.. What is going on?
My air con is not working, it started making an oscillating sound and not getting cold, which I think is the compressor. Garage couldn't find any leaks using a dye. So I asked my mechanic to change it. The generic part was a little over 300 but when he went to fit it it had the wrong number of mounting holes. Think he said it had three instead of the four from the original part? So he was not sure it was a suitable part, so didn't fit it. Because in the UK the CM model started selling in 2006 not 2007 it's possible he got confused and got a part for the older model? The car is definitely a CM!

View 7 Replies I purchased back in January my 2013 Passat and today for the first time, I noticed that when I turn my steering when the car is not moving, I hear a clunking sound and I can actually feel the clunk too.
When I'm driving I don't feel or hear anything. It's really when the car is on but not moving.
This is getting annoying because this is the 3rd time something is going wrong with my car.
Going back to the clunking, I was reading that it's a common problem with most VW vehicles.
What it could be. I don't wanna look like an idiot that's been going to the dealer so often for these types of issues.
My brake pedal clicks when depressed, only at the start of pressing down on it. (This is a 2007 Corolla CE.) It only does this when the car is cold and started doing this during the very cold below freezing weather. The brake lights are all working, nothing else seems to be a problem -- brakes work fine, no vibration, etc. Brakes were checked out two months ago.
View 4 RepliesMy Jeep makes a whining noise and sounds like a diesel truck. In the morning when I back out of my garage and reverse down a little way the noise is there. When I then drive off, the noise gets even louder. As I drive, the diesel noise seems to stop. The whining noise fluctuates. The whining noise started when my mechanic put in a new tensioner. He insists that the problem is the compressor. Twice he has removed the belt and checked everything and he says there is nothing wrong with the car except the compressor. T he air conditioner mechanic says it is not because the ac works well. He said that he has seen quite a few Patriots with this problem but he cannot tell me what it is because the people never come back to tell him what the problem was. I play the cd and the radio loud to drown out the noise so my husband who had a stroke does not have to listen to the noise.
