My 07'Passat 2.0T has this annoying loud rattle sound coming from somewhere behind dash board whenever the car was left outside ( under ~55F) overnight. The problem was gone after the car sit under the sun for hours. Is it cause by cheap material VW used in 07 model or assembly ?
View 5 RepliesTrying to find any information on what's happening with my 2008 2.2 Diesel Santa Fe ... Been driving fine until I pulled up at a set of traffic lights yesterday and started hearing a loud rattle- knocking coming from the engine at idle.
Put it in gear and drove and it goes away. When at idle if you rev the car it goes away.
Mechanic seems to think it could be clutch as it vibrates the gearbox, but sound seems to be more prominent around the engine, my thoughts were maybe a loose timing tensioner.
Clutch replacement is very expensive.
yesterday I heard a faint rattle coming from under the hood while the a/c was on, when I had my son turn it off, it went away. Right now it's barely noticeable, but I don't want it to turn into something major. I own a '08 ES with 88,000 miles and all my service is done at the dealership.
View 1 RepliesI took my car in for an oil change and they said I should get the fuel injector and upper intake manifold and valve cleaning treatment. When I picked up the car I noticed a rattle or low pitched ticking sound coming from under the hood. The car has an automatic transmission and the noise frequency increases and decreases with the rpm's. It only happens with the car in "drive". For the seasoned followers, it sounds like the sound we got from fastening baseball cards onto our bike frames to make noise as the wheels turned - just describing the sound. When I took it back to the Mini dealership in Phoenix (who shall remain anonymous), they said I needed a new transmission.

In the morning, when I've driven less than 2-3 miles and I go over a speed bump (i creep over the bumps) I hear what sounds to be like an un-oiled/worn out spring like sound coming from the front right side of the car. I don't think I hear any other sort of noise at all while driving (or if I do, it's very faint and barely noticeable).
After I've driven 25 miles or so at highway speeds (at the end of my daily commute), when I'm around 25 mph (independent of accelerating / decelerating / applying brakes) I hear what sounds to be a metal on plastic-like loose wobbling rattle (great description, right??) coming from the front right end. It gets pretty loud. However, if I go over a speed bump after having driven a good distance...guess what...no "worn out spring sound", just the rattle @ 25mph.
The rattle sound definitely 'peaks' in loudness at 25mph. If I listen carefully, I can hear it at other speeds, but it is less noticeable. I don't feel like I hear it at all at 40+ mph. I'm pretty sure the rattle is rotationally dependent (e.g. the faster wheel turn, the higher frequency of the rattle).
My tires are worn pretty unevenly, so there is a very annoying wobble/hum at all speeds, but I don't think it has to do with the tires. So to recap, it sounds like a rusty spring when going over a speed bump when the car is 'cold'. After driving a long time, no rusty-spring sound going over speed bumps, but I hear a pretty significant rattle around 25mph.
I have a 2004 Camry with what is the most odd noise I've ever heard. The noise sounds like a cross between water trickling over stones and maybe bearings rolling around in a tube, or maybe someone crinkling paper. It sounds like it is coming from inside the dashboard, or maybe just beyond the firewall in the engine compartment.
It tends to occur when the vehicle is stopped and is just starting to accelerate from a stop. It can also occur when the vehicle is breaking to a stop. It doesn't sound like break pads (not grinding metal-on-metal sound).
At a stop, I can shift the automatic transmission into neutral and rev the engine a little and the sound will occur, but it doesn't seem to be dependent on any specific RPM nor does it co-vary based on increases or decreases in RPM. Basically, when I rev, the sound simply occurs. It is of variable intensity and duration, and is very random in peak of volume and sequence of noises. If I didn't know better, I'd swear there was a chipmunk under the hood (I looked, there isn't.)
I drive the car daily, but my regular trip to work is very short so the car runs for no more than 5 minutes each morning. In a five minute drive, with 4 stop sign/lights, the noise will occur basically every time I accelerate.
I have a 2014 Camry SE with about 30k miles on it. Recently, I notice 2 rattles.
1) When I turn on my car, I hear a rattle/buzz sound for about 10 seconds sounds like its coming from the dash from my passenger side, then the rattle/buzz goes away.
2) There is a constant rattling noise the is coming from my driver side dashboard. I do not hear it on smooth roads but once I go through bumps or cracks on the road the rattle is noticeable and annoying. Sounds like its from the speaker by the windshield but i really cannot tell as i am trying to focus on the road. Maybe its something loose?
I had this plastic on plastic sound on the passenger side dashboard...this started last weekend when it was cold outside and drove me crazy, I looked around and came up with this piece of foam under the hood and windshield bezel next to the hood hinge....After a few field adjustments on this piece of foam I took my truck for a test drive and its gone....for now!
View 2 RepliesAfter 56k miles on my 2010 Type II, I suddenly started hearing a constants rattle sound that seemed to be located in the dashboard directly in front of the steering wheel. I got onto Prius Chat and researched every possible resolution, but not seemed to work UNTIL.... I saw someone had jokingly suggested squirting some WD-40 between the windshield and the windshield cowl. So, having nothing to loose, I gave that a try and... the rattle is gone! I can't explain it, but all I can tell you is my car is quiet again.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2007 passat and I have now changed 2 wheel bearings trying to find out what this noise is, when I am driving at 50+ mph I can hear like a echoing sound coming from the back left a lot sounds like its coming from the top left of rear view. I can't think what else it could b and I can't just keep replacing wheel bearings with genuine parts ....
View 8 RepliesI recently purchased a beautiful 07 LS460 with 24K miles about 3 weeks ago.
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a loud clicking / hammer noise from the dashboard lasting about 15- 20 seconds and after reviewing numerous threads here, I realized it could be my blender door / damper due to the infamous cabin air filter change. .
It must be noted that the Dealer did not change the cabin air filter and when I looked inside my glove box, I could easily open / close the blender door using the recirc ac button. Additionally, my cooling and fan is working fine as well, so I am not too sure that this is a blender door issue.
My question is that the noise continues to happen for about 20 seconds when the car is started and shut off. Since my blender door / damper opens and closes smoothly, is the servo motor going bad or servo sub assembly?
If it is my servo motor, could it be possible that it was damaged when the cabin filter was replaced? With the car only bearing 24K miles, I cant believe my servo motor has already gone bad!
2011 Subaru Outback; in January of 2015 the airbag warning icon shows on the dashboard and a loud alarm sound is played. If I turn the car off and on and I make it go away. Not easy when driving 75 mph on mountain highways. Dealer where I purchased the car has been useless; three visits there and a dozen unreturned phone calls.

Sounds like a metal ball bearing bouncing around against other metal pieces. I put my fingers down there and touched everything I could to try to stop the rattling but I couldn't. I did not remove the foam insulation.

Recently I have gotten a very loud and annoying rattle coming from my heat shield I think. I jacked the car up and tried to locate where the issue was but that wasn't successful. Do I need the heat shield by the muffler? And do you think it could be my cat rattling?
View 14 RepliesI have a very strange sound coming from the multi color display in the instrument cluster. Whenever the display is on (no need to start the car, just open the door) there is a humming or buzzing sound. Not very loud, but loud enough to get on my nerves.
View 15 RepliesI drove the family to the lake yesterday and returned with no problems at all. This morning I started the car and there was a really loud rattle from under the hood. I popped the hood and listened more closely. It sounded like it was coming from the top-end. When it shut down it seemed to whine a bit and kind of ground to a halt, almost like a belt was rubbing something. I tried to start again. Now it turns over but doesn't start. The oil's maybe .5-quart low, none on the driveway underneath and no strange smells.
I'm going to have it towed to the dealer today. I'm a bit concerned though I do have the security lockout feature. I also noticed the last time I washed it that both tail lights had moisture inside the lens and my power lock buttons are bubbling up. This one may take a while. I'll update as I know more.
2011 Santa Fe 3.5 L
I've isolated this rattle down to the cam phaser( CVVT) in the right cylinder head. It rattles bad for 2-3 secs on cold start or after it sits for 3 hours.
I've put in 5w20 synthetic oil and synthetic Lucas additive and it cleared up the noise for short interval start ups.
I changed the cam phaser in the right head with a used one ( 40k ) but it didn't make a difference. I should change out the attaching cam as well.
I have 2015 IS350 F sport. At 400 miles I started hearing this static sound which seems to come from the center or the driver side dashboard. I don't hear it if the car is not moving but as soon as I hit 5-10 mph and above, it becomes audible. I tried pressing the dashboard to see if there are loose areas but couldn't find one. Also, I thought they may be coming from the center speaker but the sound doesn't change whether the stereo is on or off. Of note, it is more audible along bumpy roads.
View 6 RepliesVehicle has been in the shop several times within one month( Battery test, replace accelerate idle switch, rear end replace) latest dilemma is with a constant clicking sound coming from under/ near dashboard on passenger side . No interior lights. All this occurs before I turn over the ignition. On some occasions if I enter the vehicle and don't hear the constant clicking sound. Whola, the vehicle starts every time. I disconnect the battery cable when coming in over night. 1997 112,000 miles.

A few weeks back I started to hear what can best be described as a "water gurgling" sound coming from my dashboard area or where the vents are. It happens especially when make a tight turn or something, it only last a couple of seconds and doesn't happen all the time. What am I hearing and what was the cause of this and is there any fixes for it?
