My interior lights work only when I switch them on but not when the door is opened. Is the switch up near the map light easy to service? Any tricks or shortcuts?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 Santa Fe and the front map light fixture was where my issue started. I believe from what I read that the diode had gone bad because the map lights would work if the light button was pressed, but not if the door button was pressed. At that point, the only issue I had was the light now working when the door opened. So, I ordered a replacement part and tried to install it today. It was harder to get the old one out than last time, but it came out no worse for wear and I unplugged the old map light fixture. I plugged in the new one and it did not work at all. I checked the wire and it looked fine, the prongs and they were fine and tried it again... nothing.
Now, the back seat dome light and trunk dome light don't work either. (with the new map light plugged in or not) Old one back in and still nothing. Checked the manual for the fuse that is supposed to control those lights and it is fine. I got frustrated because it made no sense and gave up for the night. (no light is even plugged in where the map light goes for now) I come in the house and now every hour or two (when I lock the car) the alarm sounds for no reason. The alarm button won't shut it off either, I have to hit unlock and it stops. (3 times in the last 5 hours now) So, I have decided to leave it unlocked for now. So far, so good. BUT, I need to lock my car when I am out without the alarm sounding and I need my dome lights working. Everything else with / in the car seems to be normal.
I have a 2002 Wagon and when I open the driver's door the interior lights no long go on. They do go on when I open the passenger door. Occasionally the "door open" warning light goes on as well until I open and slam the driver's door several times.
1. Is this likely to be the sensor?
2. How tough is this to replace?
I get in the car and the light is off. I open the drivers side door and the light wont go on. I am driving and open the door no warning no light. Where the sensor is for the door? I don't have a bently. How to trouble shoot this or diag it?

I've tried everything I can think of or find to get them working but the interior lights won't come on automatically. They work if I turn them on manually, or once I'm in if I press the 'door open' button on the lights they will work when the doors are open.
But surely they should come on when the car is unlocked like every other car? It's getting quite annoying getting into a car in total darkness!
I have a 2004 Santa Fe with 327,000+ miles on it (the speedometer doesn't work any longer - another problem).
Last July/Aug (2012) I had the driver window fixed (didn't go up or down) after it was fixed all the interior lights stopped working...dome light, map lights...they will not work automatically by opening a door nor manually. Even the rear hatch light will not turn on. Its not the fuse.
I recently purchased a 2011 Ford Edge with the My-Touch control system. I am planning on taking it to music festivals where I "camp" in and around my vehicle. Some of the lights go on every time a door or hatch is opened. As I am in and out of the vehicle day and night, is there a way to disable this feature?. I ask mostly because of lights bothering me and others, but am a little concerned about battery drain. It could be up to a week without starting or driving. I do turn the headlights off, but others (inside and out) come on.

View 4 RepliesI have a 1995 Dodge Caravan le which is in perfect condition throughout. But recently the interior lights stopped working when the doors are opened and when the keyless entry thing is activated. The overhead lights do work when manually pressed but the dashboard switch that is supposed to turn them on when in the far right position doesn't do anything. If I hold the drivers door open and push in the activation button on the door jam, I can hear the relay clicking but nothing happens. My mechanic said he thinks it might be a bad computer part and will replace it but didn't really want to. I can't find a fuse for the interior lights so don?

View 2 RepliesAbout 4 months ago I was at the gas station and when I tried opening my fuel door, the switch wasn't working. I went home, took the door trim off, and then removed the switch in order to clean it. Once I cleaned it, it worked but about every 3rd time that I clicked it. However, yesterday it finally gave out as I was at the gas station. So I came home and now I'm stuck because I don't want to break the fuel door.
I ran through the fuses in the fuse box but on the diagram none seem to be for the fuel door. The weird thing is that yesterday as the fuel door switch gave out, so did the interior door lock switch. Now I have to insert the key from the outside in order to enter the car. But the key cannot unlock the passenger door.
When I hit the interior door lock switch, I hear a click noise under the dash. I took a look under there and it seems to be a bunch of relays. It's very tough to tell which one is the one clicking.
My preowned ES came with a remote starter. It works great, however when the vehicle is started using the he remote, as soon as I open the door, the car turns off and I need to restart it. The model I have is Viper 5901. In the manual it says that if I use the Viper remote to unlock the doors, it should not turn the engine off.
View 3 RepliesThe map lights in my 2011 Santa Fe GLS are supposed to come on whenever the door is opened or unlocked, and up until recently they did just that. But now they don't.
There is a button next to one of the map lights labeled "door" that controls this function, but I've pushed that on and off to no avail.
I can turn the map lights on manually, so the bulbs are fine. And the dome light (further back in the car) still does come on when the door is opened or unlocked. Just not the map lights.
I was told that with remote start I would be able to start the car but when I open the door it would shut off and then it would push start. I have a 2011 ES 350. My ls gmc yukon and has no problem but it doesn't have this push button. I want to have a remote installed in my wifes car didn't think it was going to be a problem.
View 14 RepliesTroubleshooting a problem with friend's 2000 F250. His power windows aren't working and are causing problems with his door locks and interior lights. When he tries to use his drivers side power window, his power door locks quit working. If he puts the switch to raise, the interior lights flash. From what I've read, it sounds like the GEM to me, we've inspected the wiring and it all looks good. I pulled it out today and it looks good inside, no sign of water leaks on it. If it is the gem, how much do they cost and do they require programming?

It recently got very, very cold here and the drivers door makes a loud unlubricated squeak every time we open it. It has warmed up but the squeak remains. What kind of lube to use on the door hinges? Silicon spray or something else?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 Passat. The driver's side door handle has failed. With the locks in "unlocked" when i pull the handle it comes out but with no effort and it does not trip the dork lock mechanism and the door does not open. I can however open the door via the inside handle.

The light sometimes comes on, sometimes it doesn't, when the door is opened, same if using the dash switch, sometimes light, sometimes darkness. Sometimes it just barely lights up, and I see its an LED in there. 2004 2wd Edge 2 door.....
View 4 RepliesI have a 2004 V8, and now that it's a bit darker in the mornings and evenings, I've noticed that the dome lights ahead of the sunroof do not illuminate when I open the door. Strangely, the dome light over the back seat illuminates when either the front or rear door is opened. Any way to get the illumination in the front of the car? The lights work fine when operated manually, by the way.
