View 4 RepliesI went skiiing this past weekend in Angel Fire, NM. When it was time to leave on Sunday I started the car and proceeded to undo the parking brake (I was parked on a n incline). As I press the button I get a message saying something like "Electronic Parking Brake Fault. Please Service". Then I press it again and it works. Is this something I can expect more of, or could it be due to the cold weather? It was 13F outside then at the time, and the car is a 2006 with 52K on it.
View 14 RepliesOk so this is the problem now, i went to check my fuses and pulled a #20 out to see if the cigarette lighter fuse was blown. Guess what? i start the car and all of a sudden the Electronic Parking brake failure kicked on. I tried to get the car out and now it won't get out of park! FML i heard that you can just unplug the battery for 15 min and that should reset the car but who knows... I got vw roadside coming to see what they can do it might need to get towed though
View 7 RepliesI have taken it to 3 different dealer service centers, and everytime they charge me to update the computer software. They still haven't fixed anything, and everytime I leave the dealer after "getting it fixed", within 25 miles the problem reoccurs. According to my owner's manual the electronic throttle control malfunction warning light is only on the Hemi Rams.
The problem causes the truck to jerk, idle improperly, the engine loses power and shuts off at low speeds usually when turning, and sometimes when the truck accelerates after a complete stop, it hesitates causing the tires to screech when it finally builds up enough RPM to move, this last one has caused me several explanations to police officers on why I am "laying rubber" on their city streets, as if the Hemi emblem doesn't attract enough unwanted attention from the local highway law enforcement officers..
Back in March I started a thread regarding my 04 Santa Fe 3.5 which would not start after a spark plug change.
After a ton of research, & a smoke test on the intake I came to the conclusion that there was an issue with the throttle sensor as I unknowingly opened it when I was removing the intake to get to the last bolts behind the manifold. Shortly after my post, I decided to bite the bullet & buy a junkyard TB out of another Santa Fe 3.5.
After installing the new TB, the car now starts but runs extremely rich. I am now getting the code p2135 for Electronic Throttle Control System Malfunction.
Luckily up until this point I haven't needed the Santa Fe as it is mainly a winter vehicle. However, winter is quickly approaching & I would like to have her running before the snow starts to fly.
2013 Tiguan SEL
Battery is dead and electronic parking brake is engaged. Hooked up a battery jumper and still am unable to release the brake. Is there a mechanical workaround to disengage the electronic parking brake?Need to be able to get the Tiguan out of my garage in order for a tow truck to take it to the dealer to address an overall electrical issue that is cause the car to lose power... hence the dead battery.
I just noticed yesterday when I used the electronic Parking Brake. When I engaged the Electronic Parking brake, the DRL Indicator (light) on the dash went off. I did not go outside of the vehicle to see if they actually turned off (the vehicle was still running). Is that normal?

View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T 6spd and it has the electronic rear parking brake with auto-hold. Recently needed rear brake pads, but hadnt had the 3 updates for the system, so i could not retract the e-brake through the computer. Got the update done, got the car back with two codes that i cannot get cleared:
53 - Parking Brake
02433: Supply voltage for right parking brake motor (sporadic) - V283
01087: Basic setting not carried out (sporadic)
Every time the codes are cleared, they come back immediately, therefore the scanner will not allow me to operate the system and do the brake job. I am using the Launch x-431 scanner with a vag-com emulator, so there should be no equipment problems if there is anything i can do. Is there an adaptation or relearn that needs to be carried out for the caliper?
2006 VW Passat VR6 4Motion - started the car and the electronic brake light was on. Pressed to release it it would not release. Pulled the key out and started and turned off the car several times still nothing. Tried it again and it released the electronic brake lights. Is it something I should worry about. By the way called the friendly local VW dealership when I got the "release electronic brake manually" and none of their techs know how or if that could be done.
View 1 RepliesAfter sorting all other problems and making my car a nice LPG W12 version of the Phaeton, I would now like to face another problem I am finding related to the ADR (auto distance regulation) or auto cruise control.
Nearly 90% of the times I start the car, after a couple of minutes a warning shows up saying the ADR is defective. If I turn the car off the message disappears and after a few minutes it comes up again.
Sometimes it does not show up and then the system works fine until I start the car again. I have tried an overnight charge of the left battery with no success. The vagcom shows the following error when the ADR shows as defective.

Brand new 2011 tiguan SEL with the Kessy keyless entry and ignition system. Today it wouldn't start. Had it over at my brothers house, vsited for a bit and then were heading out to dinner. The steering wheel light on the tach face was flashing red and beeping at me. Foot on the brake, finger on the engine start/stop button and nothing - the red steering wheel icon just flashes and beeps. The frustrating part was since the car is brand new, I had the owners manual on the dining room table at my house, an hour away It was just a few minutes after 6, so I was unable to get anyone in the service dept at the dealer I bought it from. Luckily, the salesperson returned my call (go Francisco!) and grabbed a manual from another Tiguan to tell me what the flashing light means. Basically, it means the car won't start. Very frustrating, the car has 268 miles on it and is only 6 days old. Having it towed back to the dealer for diagnoses and repair. CSB?
View 13 RepliesSo a little while ago I had my parking brake, ABS, and traction control lights all come on at the same time. There was no change in performance, but they have been on ever since. I looked in to it online and a bunch of people said this was a common problem with damaged tone rings, so I checked them out, but they were fine (as far as I could tell anyway). So I scanned the vehicle using a buddy of mine's Snap On scanner, and it came up with the following code:
B1342 Faulty Control Module
We tried to check the fault code through Mitchell OnDemand but it said that this code was for a faulty Parking Assist Module. I don't have any kind of Parking Assist system on this vehicle however. I looked around a little more and this seems to be a pretty generic code for brake system faults with Fords. Also, if the control module for the ABS is the same one that handles traction control?
I've got a '99 Passat wagon with the 1.8T. My check engine light came on the other day. i had a friend check it w/ his OBD 2 code reader. I got 2 codes: 1300 & 1136. "boost calibration fault" & "fan circuit control malfunction" , respectively. are either of these worthy of a trip to the shop, or can i handle this on my own?
View 3 RepliesHad my car parked outside of work for about 12 hours yesterday, and in the NYC cold front, the parking break must have stuck on slightly. When I started to move, despite the fact I'd released the parking break, I received a warning in the MFI that said PARKING BREAK FAILURE TO RELEASE. I pulled the handle again and heard it pop just a little more off. Everything worked great after that. If I hadn't received the alert I probably would have driven off with it on. I'd probably have noticed the hesitation and checked the break again, but the alert was useful. Some of the warnings in the MFI can appear to be a pain at times, but it's amazing how thorough a job VW has done monitoring the cars systems and giving real time information if something doesn't work. You just have to make sure you don't get info overload from it all!!
View 4 Repliesi have a 01 b5 GLX 2.8L with the automatic climate control, well on occasion my temp will be reading fine than all the sudden drop to -36 degrees in 4 degree increments. when this happens my ac thinks its cold outside so it stops blowing cold air and blows hot air. i have to let the car sit with the ignition off for 15 min before it will reset. Is it my temp sensor that's bad and if so where is it located at?
View 10 RepliesJust got my hair cut and go to start my car and the damn thing is stuck!! The check engine light is on and there is a P with a circle and a line through is like a no smoking sign. IT says parking brake fault see owners manual. Well I can't find anything in the manual as to how to get this thing to release. The car is on a slight hill, nothing steep. I know for a fact I did not put it on. Manul says it will test itself if not used for a long time. How to get this car moving? Its sitting there about 2 miles down the road.
View 24 RepliesOk when I stop the car and get out I can hear what sounds like the parking brake engaging even though I have not pushed the button ( i am scared to death of the button) and sometimes when I start out I hear a grinding noise, that happens when i apply the brakes but then goes away??
Is it supposed to be this way? 11K miles on the car and the grinding noise doesn't happen alll the time like it was the brakes or rotors and they look fine, the pads that is from looking at them??
I am getting to check engine codes and I can't figure out what is causing them, one is P1296 cooling system malfunction, the other is P1654 Check DTC Memory of control panel ECU, any clues as to why I'm getting these, I did have a bad thermostat i changed that and it's still on, I also used the new prestone antifreeze for all makes and models, cause I am about 200 miles away from a dealership for g12.
View 6 Replies I bought a new battery tonight at my local VW dealership and after replacing it in the parking lot I got into my car, started it up, and saw 'Parking Brake Fault - See Owners Manual'. Seeing as I dont have an owners manual as when I bought it used, it didn't come with one - The car is still driveable but does not shift out of gear and when I go to engage (automatic) Drive, Reverse, or Sport, from the Parked position it makes a hard clunk and small jerk before it engages. The MFD is as if I am still parked because I can access all the comfort sections, and all transmission selections are highlighted. Im not sure if it was in Neutral or Park when I engaged the Parking Brake before I changed the battery so maybe and Im hoping when I took the old battery out, and put the new one in, that something wasnt set correctly when the car started up after having no battery power???
I am curious to know what possible ways I can rectify this. Its sitting in the VW dealership parking lot and Im hoping they will be able to take a look at at it in the morning but of course I wanted to check here. Also, what does it say in the Owners Manual about a Parking Brake Fault?
I own a GS450h and I've had a "Brake Malfunction" display message with various lights and messages. It tells me to Check ABS, VSC, and other items. The brake light and a couple next to it are also lit. I connected Techstream and these codes were found. I've had the wheel bearing changed, however that was a month before these codes popped up.
