Passat (B6) :: 2006 - Jerky In 3rd And 4th Gear After 4.5 RPM?
May 31, 2009
I had my car flashed 2 months ago with the APR software and have been loving it. Recently, about 4 days ago, I had an oil change and tire rotation and everything was fine. Yesterday, however, something strange happened. In first and second gears, I had no problem, but once I was in third gear, once over 4.5 RPM, the car started to jerk as if were having a hiccup. I then shifted and let it go over 4.5 in fourth, and had the same problem. I turned the car off for about an hour, and went back to driving and the problem was still there. This time, however, after the first jerk in third gear, the check engine light came on. The light is still there as of today. I've got a 2006 2.0T with A/T.

I have a 2006 Passat that I love but it's been doing something since it was new that has finally bothered me enough to do something about it. When the automatic transmission upshifts from 1st to 2nd, it feels really jerky - I don't know how else to describe it. It's like it surges and other times feels chunky. It seems worse after the car has sat overnight or during the day at work however it still does it even after being warmed up - just not as severely.
I called my VW dealership and spoke with a service rep and he suggested allowing the car to warm up for a few minutes before driving to let the transmission fluid 'pump' or something - not exactly confidence inspiring and even if that worked, not a good solution. The good news is that it doesn't work any better after doing that so I suspect something is actually wrong and hoping they will find it before it gets worse. I have an oil change this Thursday but based on my discussion with the service manager, I don't know that I am going to get very far with them.

So I have a 2006 Hyundai accent with 75000KM on it. I notice when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear sometimes it will jerk. It feels almost as if it goes to neutral and then sifts, causing the whole car to jerk. It use to only do it when the car was cold (first 15 min of the day) but now it seems to be doing it all the time and getting worse. I have had the transmission fluid replaced, but it doesn't seem to work.

I have been noticing that my GTI seems jerky (head bobbling) at low CONSTANT speeds on the highway during my morning commute. For example if I leave it in first and get the speed constant at 10-15km at 1,000 - 1,500 rpms I feel the car to be jerky. Even at low speed/rpm gear changes (1'st - 2nd). Anything past 2,000k RPM is fine though.
Is this normal? Or should I bring this up with my dealer and have them take a look at it. It's just annoying because I don't notice this in the city, just only in bumper to bumper highway driving at a constant low speed in 1st/2nd.

So I've upgraded to K04, and also have put in a DXD Stg2 clutch/flywheel. The issue is that when it engages in 1st gear, it's jerky. No other gear does this, 1-2, 2-3 etc is fine. It's when I'm slowly engaging the clutch from a stand still, it's not a smooth event. Under WOT in all gears it holds just fine too, no slipping or anything else. Slight chatter at idle when the pedal is out, but it's what is to be expected w/ a single mass. I'm very sure that everything was installed correctly. Is this a symptom of an upgraded clutch? I've driven Dave's GTI w/ a STG 3 clutch, and it didn't do that?

When I come to traffic and slow down, I have this jerky feeling when I'm coming to a stop. It's not from my brake or transition from gear changing. It's repetition of jerky feeling, not like one jerk from second to first gear.
For example, I'm in my first gear and stopped on the road. If I release the brake pedal and do NOT press gas, my car slowly moves forward with this jerky pulsation. It also makes noise (well.. I can hear it through my exhaust) while it moves. It feels like car is about to move, then stops, then moves, then stops.... I don't really get this when I apply gas.

I just bought a brand new 2013 Elantra! I love the car, but over the past week or so I have started to feel the car's transmission (auto) jerk when it shifts from 3rd to 4th gear. I feel the car hesitate somewhat when going from 3rd and then jerk into 4th gear if that makes any sense. The car has less than 1000 miles and it never did it when I first bought it. The transmission was always smooth until recently. Also, when coasting down the road I feel the car jerk forward when I give it some gas which also feels very strange to me!?

I need to have my DSG checked out.. Extremely jerky starting out in first gear when very hot out and engine warmed up --most noticeable when just easy on the accelerator. Need to get the ok for mechanotronic replacement. Who to trust for a reliable job and evaluation of the problem.

I just got my 08 Camry 4cyl 2 months ago. I noticed that when I start the car up and put the car into drive or reverse within 5 seconds of starting it up, it will jerk a lot. It seems like it's dropping it into gear hard. I checked this morning to see if the car is revving up when I do that and it is. It is sitting at 2000 rpm on startup. Is this normal and do I just have to wait a little bit before putting it in gear?

Sometimes, when I get on the gas rather hard, my acceleration is sort of stuttery and jerky. It's not a traction issue, and I just got Unitronic stage 1...but I was having this issue before that.

I notice that under normal acceleration, my cars transmission shifts very jerky. I understand this can happen if your driving stick but I have a TIP. Is there anyway smooth or eliminate the jerks?

After a road trip (approximately) 80km both ways, I came back to my home area and filled up and got a car wash. Then I went home. About 2 hours after I noticed the car felt very jerky, and had no acceleration. Then big time sputtering. I turned off the car and waited for it to cool down. Once cool, it just kept on cranking. It started at one point and the engine light came on. And now it only cranks.

This morning I was going leave, turned the key, car started up fine but had a very bad jerky/sputtery idle, like it was cutting in and out. Gas light was on and car parked uphill so first thought..hm must not be getting enough gas to start up. bf gets some gas in a jerrycan and empties it into the tank. Gas meter goes up, light goes off. Thought I was set to go so try to start er up again, nothing..car does turn over but its not getting any spark now. didn't have time to check much this morning as my bf was in a hurry for work so I just left it at his house for the day. I know coil packs and/or spark plugs could be the main thing and we're going to check them later after we're both done work..is there anything else I should check for? The engine light is on but we checked it with the code reader, its just the catalyst emissions stuff, no misfires or anything. (I drive a 2000 v6 4motion, tiptronic & car was parked there since saturday night)...

Brakes are too agressive on the Passat 3.6L 4Motion? Seems like the initial application, especially at slower speeds is too jerky. You have to be very soft on the pedal so as to not get your passengers hit the dash...
While you do want brakes that grab, I think that the modulation needed is beyond most drivers talent in order to execute a smooth stop without jerking.
I track my other car, so I'm familiar with brake modulation and race pads but again for a normal driver, this does not seem normal. The Audi A6 Bi-turbo is much smoother.

My 2009 Accent started doing the Hard/Jerky shift problem that I seen discussed in the forums. Had check engine light, scanning showed a code P0717. My question is, which sensor should install?

My Wife has a 2006 Chevy Malibu Maxx Lt, we recently had a series of factory safety recalls performed. Now we have a message coming up saying "POWER STEERING" and the steering wheel is tight and kind of jerky. We didn't have this much trouble before we had the recalls done.

Our Accent has just about 86k on it now, back in November it suddenly started running real jerky/rough, misfiring kinda thing. So I was able to drive it to my local repair shop and they found a bad coil pack on #3, so they replaced that and put in new plugs while they were doing it.
Just Saturday we were shopping about 20 miles from home and cranked it up to go home and started doing it again, pretty much identical symptoms, runs out normal at certain RPMs so I knew it was probably same thing...I was able to get it home and then took it in this morning and sure enough now #1 is shot. So they are replacing that. They want about 30$ more per coil then I can order them for myself online so I didn't want to scarf up the money for the other 2 that are still original.

I find it hard to smoothly accelerate from a stop with my V6 DSG. I have to be very careful how much pressure I apply to the gas to get a smooth take off...too easy to accelerate to fast or break the tires loose. Can this be reprogrammed?

So my 2006 m/t has about 85,000 miles on it and today the wife took a short trip in it. She called me 10 minutes in and said the car wouldn't shift into 2nd or 4th or 6th. I have noticed in the last 6 months that occasionally if i get on the gas and go to shift into 2nd, it will sometimes not catch and I assumed this was what she was talking about. She made it where she was going and on her return trip she says it shifted into 2nd once but then no more. I drove the car upon her return and it wouldn't go into 2nd, 4th or 6th. I would sometimes get a slight grinding sound and it was like it just wouldn't pull back far enough to go into gear. The shifter also felt to me to be in a different position no matter what gear it was in. It seemed more upright than normal and definitely not like it normally is. This was nothing like I had experienced before when it wouldn't engage. I saw a previous post where a shifter cable could break.

I've got a 07 accent with 90k miles on it. It has recently started slipping some (revs high, while in gear, without accelerating, especially in 5th gear). It also can be physically hard to move the shifter into gear sometimes (with my hand).
So, does this mean I need a new clutch? Or are there other possibilities? Should I replace/fix anything with the clutch? Sounds like the flywheel should be resurfaced? Will it shift more smoothly after the fix?
Is this something a newb could do himself? I can change the oil, rotate tires. Outside of that I haven't done much. My toolset for now is fairly limited: two jackstands, a trolley jack, torque-wrench and ratchet sets.
