I just purchased my 2006 Passat 2.0T FSI and she just broke 100,000 miles.
So yesterday my car popped the P0171 code, STOP Low Coolant light flashing, and Tire pressure very low, so today i will be removing my cold air intake and forge diverter valve adapter and bring her to the dealer for warrenty work. I will keep this thread updated with whats wrong with her.
Tire Pressure Low: all tires looked fine.
Car was purchased new and has been great (O2 sensor was replaced a few years ago and something to do with breather valves due to it making a high pitched scream when the turbo wasn't trying to kick in) for the past 80K miles. Got a Check Engine Light yesterday and took it to Autozone to have them pull the codes (I was really hoping it was the "Hey idiot, time for your 80k maintenance") and they found a P0170 Bank 1 Cylinder 1 Too Lean (by their version of reading it at least). Probable causes: MAF, Vacuum or O2 Sensor.
Nothing that seems immediately life threatening so off to work in the morning. I noticed that it was running a little rough at idle and at speed when coming off the gas. Plus it did the old 2 or 3 extra turns after shutting it off.
The Probable causes line up with what I'm reading so I'm planning to pull and clean the MAF sensor when I get home tonight. Next up is probably replacing O2 sensors from what I gather. Although If i have time tonight I may pull the airbox(?)/Engine cover off and eyeball every hose I can lay eyes on as well as the Air Filter, etc.
What am I missing? Does the rough running and running a second or 2 after shutting it off add anything to the potential diagnosis?
Well my girls 2006 passat is showing the check engine light. she took it to autozone and the code was, P0171. what does the code mean and what do i need to replace?

Have cleared it but it soon returns and emissions are very high. I have tried with my limited knowledge to check the live data via a scanner but everything seems OK.
I've cleaned the MAF sensor but I'm thinking of replacing it but don't want to do this unnecessarily!
Is there anything else I could be checking? Car drives OK and there's nothing obvious symptom wise other than the emissions and the CEL.

My accent 2006 has the check engine code p0171. AT mornings I have to start the car like 5 times until it revs up and do not stall. Also when the car is running, If I press the gas too much it starts misfiring and have really slow acceleration. I have already change the 02 Sensor, spark plugs, TPS and maf sensor, and PSV valve, cleaner the throttle. I really don't know what else to look for.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2001 Passat 1.8T that has the pesky MIL light on with a DTC code P0171 lean system. I have sent it to the mechanic many times to no avail. What the mechanic did was replacement of the MAF, O2 sensors, checked intake manifold leak as well as exhaust manifold leak. His last attempt was to check for clogged injectors and fuel filter and they were in good condition. He says the ECM is bad. I was able to retrieve freeze frame data as well as live data which shows that the computer is compensating what it thought was lean by having very positive LTFT of 22.6. I don't believe the ECM is bad but cannot be sure. There is one more thing that was not checked by the mechanic is the EGR valve. Could that be the cause of my woes - the lean system?

View 2 RepliesI've been getting this error code recently ("Fuel Trim,Bank1 System too Lean"). I have a Scanguage, which let me get the error code, and I used it to reset the message - it came back about a week later. I took it to a local repair shop after the second time, but as I'd already cleared the message, he couldn't do anything. It came back about a week later, and this time I took the vehicle in as soon as the yellow light showed up (without connecting the Scanguage).
The mechanic said that he found both P0171 and P0172, and that the problem was a loose vacuum hose AND a failing Mass Airlow Sensor. They reattached the hose and cleaned the sensor, but said that the latter fix may not last - the light came back on two days later. I took it in again (this time, checking the codes, and found only P0171) and he said this confirms the problem with the sensor and he'll have to replace it ($280 for the part, plus labor, less a discount on the labor equivalent to the labor he put in to clean the sensor.)
I recently had some work done on my 2001 VW Passat 1.8T (timing, water pump, major tune up). IT had 72K miles.....
Now I'm getting the following:
Code P0171 Too Lean (Bank 1).
Emission Light turns on / off.
Check engine light comes on and stays on after about 20 miles. Can this be the oxygen sensor?
I have a 2006 Ford Ranger with the 3.0L v6. The check engine light came on and the code it is blowing is a P0171. It runs rough at idle or when I let off the accelerator and "fine" at speed.
The code told me to check/clean the MAF which I have done. Next on the list that I saw was the PCV valve. I disconnected the electrical to it and then disconnected the hose. Some oil poured out of it... not a lot but some... The valve still seems free, it clicks when I rotate/shake it and I can blow through it (I know, highly scientific). I can replace this (if I can find it, Napa and Advanced Auto don't have a part that looks like it...) but I'm wondering what else could be wrong.
I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer LS/LT 4.2 liter 2wd. I have been trying to get it smoged, but can't clear the code. P0171 - Lean Bank 1.
I've been having a parts throwing contest with it, but it has been winning and my wallet is losing.
I have changed the air filter, cleaned the MAF sensor, changed both O2 sensors, changed the secondary air valve and relay. I've done the carb cleaner spray test around the intake and vacuum lines, with no spikes in RPM.
Most recent try was a couple bottles of Techron concentrate with premium chevron gas.(still waiting to see if the code hits again)
Next steps are checking the intake bolts(to see if they are torqued) and intake gaskets, check for exhaust leaks at the exhaust manifold, and checking the MAP sensor.

We have a 2003 Passat 1.8t. Had the Check engine Light come on. Went down to AutoZone and hookeded up the OBDII reader. Came up with P0171, Fuel System for Bank 1 was too lean. Probable causes:
1. Fuel Pressure of MAF (If Bank 1 & Bank 2 set codes together)
2. O2 Sensor
3. Ignition Misfire
4. Fuel Injector Problem
Car has 60K - has always run well. Wife says she thinks it's running a bit sluggish. I rarely drive the car, but I think she's right. Car is not missing or running rough.
I cleared the code & started the engine; Check Engine Light is off; then looked at the codes and I find a P0171 (Pending). She tells me that the light has been on before & then gone away. So I guess it clears itself, but eventually comes back.
I have had 06 passat with a 2.0 turbo. It been a great car. check engine light has come on with a few codes.
P0171 lean air fuel mixture. P2015, p2008, p0507, p2015, p2008.
This code keeps coming up on my OBD reader, hat to look for to repair this code. I read on this other forum that it could be vacuum leaks etc.,

View 6 RepliesMy Explorer CEL just came on today, when checked it only brought up a code P0171. I have read through a bunch of the post and it seems most people get two codes where as I only get one. Also most say their vehicles run rough, mine runs great, so I am at a loss as to what to check or replace first. There does seem to be a slight ping when under load.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 Ls 3.9 V8 125,000 miles that started idling rough.I checked for codes and got p0171 (bank 1 lean), p0175 (bank 2 rich) and p0307(cylinder 7 misfire). I swapped cop and sparkplug from cylinder 7 to cylinder 5 and erased the codes.I ran the engine for a while and rechecked the codes to see if the misfire followed the cop and plug. They did not. I still get p0171,p0175 and p0307 (cylinder 7 misfire).
View 7 RepliesI am having a difficult time trying to fix my CEL issue, The vagcom scan says P0171 & P0174 Lean banks 1 and 2. I don't believe both O2's went out I have Checked and cleaned the MAF Sensor did a quick vacuum leak inspection and all seems good. I have a GIAC ST 1 and an AFE intake with noise pipe delete. I can reset it but it returns after a day or so.
View 1 RepliesSo I recently changed the air filter in my car. Its hard to get to and replace. Its in a tough spot and I am not sure if I secured the cover fully and completely. I am pretty sure I did. Anyway, a week later I had my check engine light come on, it stayed on for a couple hours then went off. It hasn't come back on since. However, I went to the Autozone, anyway, and had them read the code. They said it was P0171, system too lean bank 1. Is this a serious issue? What are some common ways to fix it, if it is? The car is a 2005, Honda Accord EX. 4 cyclinders. PZEV version. It has 142,000 miles on it.
