Passat (B6) :: 2006 Died - Engine Failure At 12k Miles?

I have had my 2006 B6 for 4 months now and it has been running perfect, and I have been loving it. I brought the car to the dealer to get PA state inspection and have the wiper recall taken care of. I then get a call from the dealer telling me the oil light came on during the test drive and they are looking into the cause.

Later that day the dealer calls me telling me that we have serious problems and that I will probably need a new engine, I was like WHAT!!! Now before I brought the car in it was running perfect I had no previous problems or anything. After talking to the dealer again, he said they found gas in the oil and a "ton" of metal parts in the oil filter compartment. They are now sending the VW Engineer and a local Rep to figure out what to do.

Engine failure at 12k miles? It seems weird and a major lemon if you ask me. I'm not sure what they're going to do at this point, but all I know is I drive 40k miles a year and need a care that can last, I am not paying $580 a month to drive a car with a replaced engine at 12k miles. This is very frustrating, I hope they either replace the car or pay off the remainder of the loan.

Passat (B7) :: Alternator Failure At About 39,000 Miles

Happy owner of a TDI - SEL for just over a year. One week shy of my 40K service, the alternator failed. All repairs covered with my extended warranty. Tech said he hadn't seen another alternator go bad and certainly hadn't seen a 1 year old TDI with 40K miles! Any alternator issues? otherwise been quite happy with the car.

Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Deteriorating Ride Quality At 6000 Miles - Premature Shock Failure?

We own not 1, but 2 2007 Passats. My wife's is a 2.0, mine is the 3.6. Both were purchased at the same time (4/07). Both have about 6000 miles on them. And both are going in for their first service at the end of this week.
I feel like what I'm experiencing with ride quality having deteriorated since the cars were new is happening in both cars. I don't know... maybe it's my imagination... but I don't think so.

I remember when the cars were new thinking that the ride was pretty sweet - very smooth, not jarring even over fairly rough road surfaces. I had just come out of an '05 Touareg V8 that I turned in early for the Passat (sold the boat; didn't need a tow vehicle any more and wanted better mileage - but loved the Touareg). Anyway I never really felt like the Touareg's ride degraded that much over the 30,000 miles I drove it.

But the way these Passats are riding right now is bothering me. My wife's car (the 2.0) is a bit worse than mine, I think. But I feel pretty sure what I'm talking about has happened (or worse yet, is perhaps still happening?) to both cars.

Lexus ES 2007-12 :: ES350 / 60K Miles - Engine Head Failure

Have a lexus es350 (2007). While driving to work, engine light came on. after reaching work tighted the gas cap and while driving back , light was not on for sometime and then came on. Didnt drive to work car after that. Next day evening drove to dealership and they diagnosed as waterpump replacement requird. Overheating indicator never went high while we were driving. After water pump replacement, dealer said engine wont start and compression test failed. Need new heads and gasket at a cost of $7184 additional. Dealer and I spoke to customer service case manager and they refused with such a high expense. Tried to tell them that we have owned 4 Toyota/Lexus cars , have been loytal Toyota customers (last one bought in 2012) etc. , but, nothing seems to make a difference to them. The decision was already made before they talked to me. Car has only 60K miles. Last maintenance was done at 56K (oil change, fluid levels etc). I owned 3 Toyotas for 100K before I sold and 2 Hondas. None had such a high expense at 60K.

Passat (B6) :: 2006 - Steering Column Failure

It's a 2006 2.0 Turbo. It died last night, had it jumped, drove it 2.5 miles to get gas & wha-la ...dead. Since it was late had it towed back to the house (it's just me...no other car available). I've researched until after midnight and started seeing recalls, tsb...and not into anything about cars except counting on them! It started smelling like sulfur after many attempts to charge the battery..

Touareg :: Air Suspension Failure At 70K Miles?

Was driving on some segmented highway concrete that send my front end into quite a thrashing. Slowed down quite a bit and it settle down some but nothing like that before. Pain attention to ride but it feels OK, corners, etc. BUT, over the past few weeks, I've noticed that it has become quite sensitive to sharp transitions (BOTS dots a.k.a. line markers, driveways, etc. so I have a suspicion that one or more of the air spring assemblys has possibly failed or a leak.

It's like the equivalent of a worn out strut. The car hold up. Raises and lowers, etc. But I can't push down on the car to test the response of the suspension like a standard strut car. What is the expected life of the air suspension? And cost to replace pair or all four. Not looking forward to the possible expenses.

Phaeton :: System Failure Appeared On The Display, Car Died

I have an 05 V8 and was just on my way home from work driving on the expressway when suddenly my Phaeton completely and instantly died. It was running completely fine and then everything turned off and "system failure" was on the display. I coasted in neutral off the expressway and was able to come to a stop and place the gearshift in park but the key is completely unresponsive and I can't get the gear lever to move out of park. I'm guessing I'll need to get it towed to the dealer but I don't know how it can be towed in park. I have a VAG-COM so I can go up and run a scan but it it currently parked in a vacant lot and I need to get it moved quickly.

Touareg :: Battery Died At 7,800 Miles

Drove from KC to Wichita (189 miles) on Friday. Drove around in the city (probably less than 22 miles) that evening. Touareg has been in the driveway of my father-in-law's house since. Got in the car this monring (Monday) to go pick up my 2 nieces and the thing was dead. It didn't want to give my key back but I insisted so it did.

I have it on a charger right now and it is drawing 12 AMPS. I just hope the thing starts later today when i have to get back on the road to go back to KC.

Big bummer. Nothing unusual that should have caused the problem, but I do have yet another theory to add to the pile. This theory is a running one from my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. It developed an electronic eye issue. When parked the eye sensor would malfunction and tell the headlights to come on. So, the battery would drain in my garage overnight. They replaced the sensor and the problem went away (which I thought was strange since the Jeep was off in the garage disabling the sensor from being able to tell the lights to turn on).

When I went out to the Touareg this morning I noticed that the parking lights were on (but very dim). When I switched the light switch to the "O" position they went off.

Do you think there is possibly a light sensor issue here as well? Who frinkin' knows?

Passat (B5) :: Car Died While Driving / Engine Was Not Able To Rev Up In Drive

While driving at night, my battery and break light came on on the dashboard. About 50 minutes later, my car can no longer travel faster than 5mph. The engine was not able to rev up when it is in Drive, but it was able to rev up the when I put it in Park or Neutral. Finally it died, while traveling at 5mph.

Had a friend jump started the car, but was not able to travel over 5mph. Then it died shortly.

So is this the alternator? I'm hesitant to think it is the alternator, because the engine was able to rev up when it is in Park and Neutral.

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - Engine Just Died While Driving

So I am driving down the highway and the engine stopped. It will turn over, but it will not start. Vagcom did not reveal any issue related to this problem. We pulled the fuel line and no fuel came out when I cranked it again. Could this be a fuel pump or a relay related to the fuel pump? Let me know what you think this could be.

Passat (B6) :: Oil Pressure Failure And Engine Death Rattle

I think my oil pump bolt died today. Strange enough it happened when I was parking my car at work. I am sure it could be something else but its near the mileage that if it didn't happen early in its life it would happen around now. About 65k miles on my 07 3.6L 4MO

I have a 2006 Prius with 100,000. My husband just called me from the road (3 hours away on the way home). He pressed his button on the drivers side door to roll the driver's side back window down a crack. After he let go of the button, the window continued to go down all the way then wouldn't go back up. He stopped and tried to put it up using the button on the back door, but it didn't work. He then turned the car off in order to get gas, and when he started the car, the check engine light came on. He's driving now trying to get home before anything more goes wrong.

Passat (B5) :: Engine Suddenly Died When Go To Change Lanes

So here's the scenario: Driving home. Traffic is pretty heavy, I'm not traveling more than 20 MPH. When I go to change lanes the engine suddenly dies; I have no more power and can barely steer the car off the highway. I had enough momentum to roll to the shoulder. Try to restart the car, but all I hear is a high-pitched whine.

Get towed to the dealer. The mechanic took a look and said the timing belt snapped and bent the valves. But he also thinks there might be additional damage to the engine. We're gonna get a better assessment of what's going on on Monday when the service department's boss comes back from vacation.

My question is: if the car is indeed dead, can I expect to get anything from VW? Will they reimburse me the value of the car towards a new car? Should I see how much to get the car fixed? (They say a new engine might be needed.)

Specifics on the car: 1999 Passat, 1.8 turbo, a little over 86k miles. Car is in great condition, aside from what just happened.

Passat (B5) :: Coil Pack Failure - Engine Start Missing

1.8 had recent coil pack problems? I recently had a coil pack fail in very hot weather 2 weeks ago. This week during another heat wave I believe the coil was again causing the engine to start missing. I know about VW's past reliability problems concerning coil packs and am now concerned that this may be surfacing again.

Touareg :: Electrical Failure While Driving On Freeways About 70-75 Miles An Hour

I bought my Treg a on 1/16/05 only 46 days ago and have had now twice electrical failures both at while driving on freeways about 70-75 miles an hour. Every light on my treg went off for a few seconds including the MFI Radio and even the headlights. when everything went back on the xenons did their little wink. Possible 04 problem? I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe with an AC Compressor that my be frozen. My car was sitting for 6 months not be used. Before the AC worked great. When i put the ac on a few days ago, my engine died. I turned the ac off and started the car up again, and no problem. I pressed AC button and car slowly died. Does my ac pump need more oil, or a new ac compressor?
