More times than not lately when I try to start the car, it will turn over then die out right away. Sometimes stay running for 2 seconds, rpms go up to about 1200 then shuts right off. It is sparatic, but can take 20-30 times of starting to happen then. Car has 44k on it.

OK, so I recently purchased this car. When I turn the AC on, it literally takes 5-10 minutes for the ac to turn cold. Just the other day, I turned it on and nothing happen. The heat or the AC didn't kick on. Nothing was coming from the vents. What could be going on?

View 6 RepliesI get home from a business trip today and the wife picks me up in someone elses car. Why? Because the turn signals on her 2002 Passat went out. None of them work.
When you push the signal lever the arrow lights up exactly one time, you hear the familiar turn signal click exactly one time and then nothing....nada...zip.
I just got in a while ago so I haven't had any time to begin checking fuses. I'll look at it in the morning when I've got some light.
How do I turn off my headlights all the way... I can't seem to figure it out, the dail just makes them on, or even brighter, no off option.

so the problem seems that "one in a while" when driving and I turn off the engine, do an errand, then get back in to start it,- it wont turn over. I need to wait a few minutes for it to restart again.
We thought it was a FI 'controller' (the part that sits on the right inner fender under a plastic cover). We replace the non OEM part with an OEM part.
I had the car scanned at VW Corporate and nothing showed up.

I was driving to work this morning and my ESP light came on, but wouldn't turn off... I just finished getting my window regulator fixed, so I am really not ready for another repair just yet. Can I continue to drive the car with the light on?
View 5 RepliesSo I went out to my wife's car yesterday in the morning and the car would not turn over. Seemed like a dead battery. The power doors wouldnt even open and the remote would not open anything.
I pulled up my car next to hers and jumped the battery and the car started up right away. I let it charge alittle and the car seemed fine.
I drove around and came back then parked the car and did not use for the remainder of the day.
Today, my wife came outside and tried starting it again and said it was dead again. Luckily my next door neighbor gave her a boost and it started up right away.
I know the battery is pretty new, as the previous owner installed a new Battery back in January of this year from Autozone. I am thinking its the alternator??
I have a 2001 vw passat and I have noticed that sometimes when i am driving and have the ac on i smell gasoline in the car.. Its already 105 degrees.... I do not notice any leaks in my drive way... is this a common problem? I should get check out right away? ..
View 1 RepliesI have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 and for some reason... it seems quite random... my ABS and ESC lights come on on the dashboard. I guess either there is an electrical problem or for some reason my ABS and ESC intermittently turn themselves off. After the lights come on, the ESC button has no effect. Usually, when I turn my car off and turn it back on, the lights turn off.

View 17 RepliesI have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 with about 135K miles. The key will insert fully into the ignition, but will not turn. It will remove easily as well. Just not turn. I am unable to start. I have sprayed lock lubricant with graphite into the slot with no success.
Oddly, there is slight pressure on the steering wheel, just like you parked it with the wheels turned all the way to one side. However, the wheels are straight as the car sits in the garage. But, there is still slight pressure on the steering wheel. I can rock (move) the steering wheel back and forth, and relieve the pressure on the ignition lock, but the key still will not turn.
Note, this is the third time that this has happened. About three months ago, I could not turn the key and had it towed to an independent garage. The key turned immediately for the mechanic and he could not duplicate the problem.

Process:
Unlock via key in the door, or via remote.
Insert key into the ignition, turn to start.
*If the radio was left on, it powers on.
*If the fan was left on, it powers on/blows.
*Headlights/interior lights all work.
But turning the key? Is *just* like turning the key on a car with a dead battery. The starter doesn't so much as click.
Stop, take the key out, repeat. Eventually, the car starts "normally". The end of the day going home, or next morning, etc? Just fine.
A few days per week, I get this issue. Of course, it never happens at the dealership. Things that have been replaced:
- The brake switch that caused the shifter to lock.
- The ignition, the first time I took the car in for this.
I have a 2010 sonata GLS which just turned a year old today. About a month or so ago I bought a 8000K HID kit. Its been working fine but the other night i went to leave a friends house and my headlights would not turn on at all. I replaced the fuse and still nothing. All the wiring is fine on the kit and inside the harness and the headlight. I don't know what to do. I have 2500K yellow high beams and I've been driving with them for the last few days but they blind people and i hate driving with them on. This didn't start until the day i took the car to the dealer for an oil change. what should i do?
View 1 RepliesI've notice it do this probably 4 or 5 times in the last couple days. I turn my brights on and the radio will turn off for a second and turn back on by itself. Its not just the display going blank because the sound goes off also.
I trying to figure out all electrical I have going when this happens. Rear Defrost etc.
I think it went out once without turning the brights on but I can't remember what I was doing that time. Have less than 4k on my warranty.
Our Prius had been sitting all week because it was out of inspection. No problems like what I'm about to describe. We went to take it to get it inspected this morning and it wouldn't turn on. After monkeying around a little it kicked on and off we went. On our way home we stopped at a store and had no problems. We checked the energy display and the battery symbol was fine. We got home, shut the car off, went to lock the doors and nothing would happen. We attempted to start it again and it was completely dead. No error messages, no beeping, no nothing. I read that it could be the battery, but everything had been fine until we shut it off.
View 4 RepliesI got a 98 passsat and my clutch was recently replaced.... my car doesn't start but my battery and starter are good... it must be something with the clutch that the mechanic left out... i have to push start the car every morning and its hard to just even get it out of the driveway and onto the street by myself.... is there any way to turn off the clutch sensor so i don't have 2 clutch in for the engine to turn over....

Dealer initially thought broken timing belt. They looked again today (through an inspection hole) and belt was still in place and under tension but some teeth seemed to be missing. They THINK it could be a seized water pump that caused this (there was otherwise no indication of a seized water pump). Cams/belts do not move when you try to start it. Dealer said engine would need to be replaced or the damage repaired from trying to start it and causing whatever internal damage this causes..heads, valves, etc. that's where it stands now.
Checked the belt & alternator pulley but nothing wrong there. Battery looks good too. What can it be?
