Have a 06 2.0T Passat that decided to start making some kind of god awful squeling noise today.. Sounds like it is come from the drivers side underneath possibly.. Funny thing is when you turn the car off it stays on for a few seconds till it runs out of pressure or something..
Car does have 103k on it if that matters..
On 3/16/15 i purchased a used 2013 Passat 3.6 SE. The car is pretty much what i was looking for, simplistic, clean, and with a touch of power. My test drive was minimal, never really hit the highway. The car had 19K plus miles when I bought it.
Here is my issue, when driving it home after purchasing it, as soon as we hit 69 MPH (range is 69-71ish), there is a "howling", not a whistling, noise comming from the front of the car. I initially thought it was the road, (road construction), or the "wind pattern" for that night. Well neither of those seem to be the issue. I havent really put many miles on it in my 2 days, maybe 50 miles..
What this noise could be? I really cant explain the nosie other that its a "howling" noise.. Like wind is depected hitting an open window in a horror flick?
Lately I've been experiencing a howling noise upwards of 2000 rpm when accelerating under a certain throttle position... Basically makes a WOO type of sound coming from the drivers side of the car.. very noticeable and annoying. When I step on the gas harder it goes away, and if i just rev the car in neutral (no load) the noise will not happen! This makes it impossible to figure out where it's coming from with the hood open. Checked the IC hoses, air box and a bunch of vacuum lines and no luck...

View 12 RepliesWhen my heat or air conditioner is running it makes noises (loud squeaks and squeals). The only way for it to stop is if I run the heat/ air conditioner at the lowest setting. Right now its cold but if I don't run it at the lowest setting, the sound is loud and really annoying... I thought it was maybe a loose cabin filter but I checked that and its fine. Where is it coming from?

when i initially purchased "used " my 08 gs350 i had a problem with brake squeal. I kept taking it in to the dealer until they ended up changing front rotors , all 4 pads , and new shims .
Took my car into my usual mechanic to get an oil change. I knew i needed brake pads and he changed all four pads out for $350 .I am having a terrible time with brake squeal now. the mechanic is telling me that i have warped rotors and need to replace all four. He is telling me that he wont charge me labor, but the parts will cost $400.00 I goggled the cost of the parts and he isnt far off on the price . My concern is that his fix isnt the correct fix. Front what i can tell its the front rotors making all the racket.
What should i do ??I dont know if they re-installed the shims and have no idea what kind of pads were used . Thinking about taking it to the dealership and being done with it .
2009 Sonata 2.4 AT 111,000 miles and at start up sometimes I hear a squealing noise from the transmission for a few minutes and then it goes away...
View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 Hyundai Accent automatic. For the past few months, every time I start up my car it makes a horrible squealing sound. This sound also occurs when I'm backing out of my parking space and when I do turns. A few times when I'm doing turns the steering seems to lock up a bit and it gets really difficult to steer. I had numerous people check under the hood and they say that the pulley is seizing every time I turn the steering wheel left or right while it's making that squealing noise. I have had all three belts replaced and a new alternator installed last year. The belts have been checked numerous times since they been replaced. The power steering fluid has been a changed as well. Do I need a new steering pump? Or is the problem something else.
View 7 RepliesAll was fine with it until a month or so ago. Now, after the car is first turned on and the AC is turned on, it makes a terrible squealing sound. The moment the AC is turned off it stops. If the AC is left on, it will generally make the noise for a good 20 seconds, stop, and then repeat that a couple more times(and the noise will cease for as long as the car is on).
I popped the hood and took a look (I'm assuming the compressor is on the lower left), and when the AC is off it spins fine. However, when the AC is turned on, the fan starts up, then it visibly stops spinning and really struggles to spin, causing the noise. Do I need a new compressor?
My 2003 Passat 4cyl turbo makes an extremely loud noise whenever I am in reverse...its seems to happen only when I tap the brakes. Several of my neighbors have heard the sound and expressed concern. I have had it at the dealer and they found no problem. I bought this car new in 2003 . The sounds seems to come and go. Maddening....It just happeneded again today. The car is garage kept, has only 31,000 miles on it, and has always been dealer maintained. The car is in pristine shape in and out.
View 2 RepliesI have an 02 Passat GLS. Its seems that when uts really cold out and I got to start my car in the morning it lets out a squealing noise. I just had my engine serviced so I doubt its any of the belts but I dont know for certain. Any VW buffs out there who know?

View 7 RepliesI just had all my belts changed on my 2009 elantra. Now when I start my car it makes a loud squealing noise. it goes away after about 1 minute, we took the belt off that controls the air conditioning and still squealing.

View 6 RepliesSo I just got a bunch of work done on my car: the timing belt, spark plugs, serpentine belt and water pump were just replaced. I had the oil changed, the fluids changed, new front tires, and an alignment all about a month ago, but now every time i turn my car on there is a squealing noise coming from my engine (i assume a belt). Then when i get to higher speeds the entire car shakes, but more so on the drivers side. I have also noticed my brakes just starting to squeal as well, but the shaking was occurring before that. What it might be?

I have a 2000 b5 wagon with a 2.8 5spd with 200k on it .... Its slammed on coils and i get this squealing in reverse i dont know what it is i just rebuilt the front end ie control arms... also have a nasty vibration from 1000rpms to 3000 rpms could that be engine mounts/snub mount?

View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T 6spd and it has the electronic rear parking brake with auto-hold. Recently needed rear brake pads, but hadnt had the 3 updates for the system, so i could not retract the e-brake through the computer. Got the update done, got the car back with two codes that i cannot get cleared:
53 - Parking Brake
02433: Supply voltage for right parking brake motor (sporadic) - V283
01087: Basic setting not carried out (sporadic)
Every time the codes are cleared, they come back immediately, therefore the scanner will not allow me to operate the system and do the brake job. I am using the Launch x-431 scanner with a vag-com emulator, so there should be no equipment problems if there is anything i can do. Is there an adaptation or relearn that needs to be carried out for the caliper?
This has happens twice so far then the sound slowly goes away why does it do this? Yes my car has oil and i always use mobile1 15w50...
View 4 RepliesWhat the random sound is when turning off the car? It almost sounds like a pump is running or a motor for something. Doesn't happen every time, so I can't get anyone else to listen to it. Wonder if it has something to do with the turbo?
View 8 RepliesSo i am looking to buy a 2007 Sonata 4 cylinder with 145K miles. There is a ticking noise coming from the motor. Sounds like a lifter tick. You can here it all the time even after its warmed up. I just don't know much about these cars.
