View 18 RepliesWould having the cup holder replaced on an 08 Wagon with the non climatronic ac system require the disconnection of the right hand side selector that controls where the air comes out.
Just noticed today that no matter what position it's in the air only comes out on the windscreen vents and the two side vents on either end of the dash.
I have a '06 2.0T Auto, and the first cold day since I purchased the car was a week ago (I live in North FL) and turned on the heat, to find out that little to no heat was getting let out, so I brought it to my local guy, and said that the thermostat was probably stuck open, so he replaced the thermostat and housing for a couple hoses , and tested out the heat just now (55 degrees out), have it on 80 degrees and full blast, and still nothing. Also, usually I hear the cooling fan kick on after I shut off the car for about 5-10 secs, but haven't heard it since its not 90+ out. Its in the 70s.
View 6 RepliesHaving problem of not getting any heat from the vents of the car? The fan works and more than likely it isn't the Thermostat. The engine also heats up normally, it's just that the air the blows out of the vents does not get hot anymore and it's getting to be fall.

View 1 RepliesAir Conditioning issues, vents 'hiss' when the A/C is on ... So we just bought an 04 B5.5V TDI and when we were test driving the car, I didn't actually notice this issue since we didn't do extensive driving and I wasn't listening for this problem specifically.
So basically what I found after the purchase is that the a/c is not very strong at all... even full bore and the vents have a hiss, hissing, whine, moan coming from them.
The minimal troubleshooting I have done was just to try to determine, while at idle from inside the car... when the noise was happening. What I have come up with is this.
If the AC switch is off, I can turn the fan on to any speed and the noise will not present itself.
If the AC switch is on, going from fan stopped to speed 1, about 70% of the time the hissing will not present.
If the AC switch is on, going to any of the faster fan speeds (2+) and center vents begin to hiss at me.
Once the hissing is happening, turning the fan speed back 1 will not stop the hissing.
The hissing slows and stops when the fan is turned off or the AC switch is turned off.
The hissing does not sound like a fan rubbing. Its not quite a mechanical sound like a bad bearing or debris hitting the fan.
The hissing sounds a little bit like someone blowing through a straw. However, the fan seems to move up and down the speed range just as expected and the air output seems to match the speed... so its not like the air movement is low.
I have a 2003 Passat 4Motion wagon with the 2.8 VR6 motor. I am currently having an issue with the air conditioning / climatronic unit. In the summer when the A/C is on, if the car is stopped hot air blows out of the vents. As soon as I start moving the air is ice cold. I have checked the compressor, had it recharged and everything on that end looks good.
View 5 RepliesThe other morning I started my car up and no heat or air would come out of my vents. The night before I had to drive through a blizzard and my car was completely packed with snow. The climate controls function normally, everything is lighting up when i select a button, but no air is coming out of the vents (rear defrost and seat warmers work fine). There is no sound of the blower starting when I turn the air on, hot or cold. I live in Northeast Ohio so we currently have several inches of snow and it's well below freezing outside. I live in an apartment so my car is outside 24/7 between being here and at work. I looked up a bunch of posts on here and other websites to try to figure it out. I ended up taking my cabin filter out and it is completely packed with snow. So i vacuumed out the snow that was left in the cabin filter housing as far as i could reach. I also unpacked as much snow as possible from wheel wells seeing as the HVAC vent goes to there, and the blower still doesn't work.
What I am guessing, which I could be completely wrong, is that the HVAC vent is completely packed with snow and it's not letting the blower turn. I guess my question is does that seem remotely possible or is it something else completely? My climate control doesn't work on the highest setting so I don't think its the relay I read about and my heater has been working fine with no noises or anything and I don't believe it would just go bad out of the blue.

I've got a 2001 4 motion passat and I am not getting any heat out of any vents.
View 4 RepliesJust started happening this weekend, I can hear air moving and it changes speeds, however I get no flow out of the vents.
I'm at 42k so I'm hoping it isn't a major issue, also tried searching but couldn't find a similar issue. I am pressed for time because I'm leaving for a 2500 mile round trip Wednesday.
I'll add a photo of the controls where I get zero air flow, minus some cold air.
My rear air vents are broken kind of I feel like I could fix it if i took the whole back part off, how to remove the back air vents? or the whole thing?
View 1 RepliesMy vents don't blow hot air, even when I have the dial set to max heat. The air is only moderately warm. In the winter, one definitely needs to keep their coat on when traveling in my car. (It's a 2003 Passat V6.) The needle in the engine temperature gauge is vertical once I have been driving for 5 minutes, so I think the thermostat is OK. This morning it was 17 degrees; I'd sure like heat soon.
View 7 RepliesIt seems my car likes leak gas smell, its not leaking gas but the smell is strong and comes through my vents when the air is on, and also is in the car after high speeds (like getting off highway and stop at stop sign) also will work its way into my car when not running..
I noticed when i bought the car that the previous owner had replaced things under the hood and took off ALL the covers under the hood (the plastic covers under the hood, for example the v6 30 valve piece and the one running horizontal for the air cleaner across over top the battery), so my air cleaner is exposed at the top, so could this have any effect on the smell?
I am getting a plastic or oil smell from the vents. I read about this on hear a while ago but I didnt record the problem. What that is. Oil leak from engine seal? I don't know...
View 4 RepliesAir blowing out of only one of the 2 middle AC vents? Are there individual fans for each vent and maybe one is broken or something like that?
View 5 RepliesI noticed a few months ago I wasn't getting much heat from my 99 Passat. I had the cooling system flushed and checked. Still no heat even after having all this done. Not long afterwords I started noticing that sweet smell through the vents, but couldn't find any leaks. I checked the expansion tank and it seemed to be slightly low so I added some coolant just to top it off and there it was. Steam started rolling up from the drivers side where the coolant had dripped on the exhaust and that's when I found the leak. I took the screws out that hold the tank to the bracket and discovered the leak coming from a short tube that appears to connect to nothing leaking coolant. Now here's my question, is the tank suppose to have a hole in it ? I thought it was suppose to be pressurized. What I don't figure is why didn't the shop notice it when they were refilling the system.
View 9 RepliesHave a 02 with climatronic. You put it on vent and it blows out the vent. You press floor and it goes ape and the fan goes to max and nothing comes out the vents and nothing comes out the floor. IF you put it on floor only there is flow like normal. You can not have it on floor and vent. I drove 2 other passats and they both allow floor and vent. Havent been able to check codes because car has been at dealer for a week.
View 8 RepliesMy heater and a/c on my car have been acting up!
Yesterday I got into my car I turned on my heater and it didn't work! So I pushed the a/c button and that did nothing either! No air came out of the vents at all even on full blast... So I tried turning it off and back on and nothing happen then it finally worked but when i tried to turn it off it wouldn't turn off then randomly turned off by its self!!!
Whats going on and what I should check for this problem ?
So, at 14k it looks like I have that musty smell coming out of the AC vents. I've seen a TSB on here that addresses it. Hopefully my first trip to the dealership for anything other than an oil change doesn't present me with any other surprises.
View 8 RepliesI have 2002 1.8T Wagon GLS with a manual climatic (with 3 big dial buttons). The weather is now getting cold and yesterday I started to realize there is no air coming from the bottom vents (both passenger and driver side) when the air flow dial button is set to bottom vents. All other positions (windshield and front vents) are all working. The air flow dial button appears to be mechanically controlled.
View 1 RepliesI took my 2000 V6 Passat into the shop because my heater vents were blowing cold. They tested the system and told me the following:
The hoses leading to the heating core are warm, but no warm air is leaving the heater core, indicating that it's plugged up with corrosion. They testing the coolant fluid and found that the incorrect coolant had been put into the system and that the fluid was carrying an electrical charge that must be corroding the aluminum portions of the system. In addition, the engine temp sensor is kaput and never goes up.
They offered a garden hose flush the heating system for a few hundred bucks, but warned that it is only 50% successful. They recommend replacing the heating core.
