Just started today my turn signal is acting weired. No matter which side I signal, it will, once in a while that does not have the "tick-tick-tick" sound and the signal light not function while the lever is still in the "turning" position.

View 19 RepliesPurchased new one from Advanced Auto parts. It worked for a few days and is back to doing what the other part was doing. When I engage the lever to turn right it works but when try to signal to the left it doesn't always work. It makes a noise that sounds like it is shorting out and doesn't turn the signal light on.
Depending on how I have the steering wheel turned, sometimes I can hold it to allow for the signal to blink. I replaced the lever, that BTW, also operates the brights and the windshield wipers, for the very same malfunction. I was not able to pass TX state inspection. Now I,m wondering if it isn't something else that may be causing the lever not to engage. can it be a loose wiring harness?
So I'm not sure if it's something I did or an actual issue. I've had my t-reg less than a week and I just noticed that for some reason the turn signals don't seem to function properly.
Here's what happens: The signals outside the car (incl. side view mirrors) will work. But I get no clicking noise and the indicators on the dash do not light up (same issue with hazzards). I turned the car on/off and the radio on/off and nothing.
So I turn around and come back home to call my VW dealer, but all of a sudden the signals just started working again after I restarted the car. Did I do something?
What are the positives/negatives to driving in the "S" position on the shift lever? What situations to do so/not do so?
View 5 RepliesLeft the car for a couple of days outside... and tried to start it latter at -38 C. No matter how convincing I was - the engine wouldn't run. Well, now both batteries are dead... I have no luck in engaging the gear lever into N position so we can tow it into a flatbad truck... any one knows how to do it with no power? Also is there a way to manually open up a trunk of the car?
There is seems to be some weird electrical issue... while car just sits in a parking lot - batteries are drained out of juice... if its driven even for a small period of time - everything seems to be ok. Thats a first real let down from this car.
2005 V8, 25k miles. This morning I started the car and heard a clicking noise in the dash right behind the keyhole. It was intermittent and sounded like a cricket as I was driving. It was not too loud, a few db less than a turn signal click. Every few seconds, the MFI message said "Place lever in P position" ... Nothing else doing anything abnormal. Car otherwise sounds and drives fine. The 4WD knob was in high for normal driving.

I really love my Phaeton and it has only 75,774 kilometres on , so it is quite new ...

I have 2013 elentra just about a year old, (Took delivery june/2012). Recently some thing happen on the Shift lever, can't shift to "R" for back in parking, Shift to "N" is OK.
Some time it can't shift out from PARK to "R" or "N" or "D" ... Under any of this situation,car engine would not start.
Sound like the SHIFT LOCK did not release properly, or the Brake paddle position switch input did not send to Computer for engine Start.
I have a European Phaeton 3.2 litre V6 (gasoline) from 2003 that is giving me some problems. When I am finished driving I put the gear lever to parking position and turn off the ignition. I then get a message "Move selector lever to position p" and the key is stuck in the ignition.
So far, I have been able to get the error message away (and with that also been able to get the key out) by starting the car and move the gear lever around. Some times I have managed by only starting the system (by not holding my foot on the brake pedal). But tonight I couldn't get it fixed after numerous tries. I then simply waited in the car, because I didn't really know what to do, and after maybe five minutes the system shut down (energy saving mode?) and I could finally get the key out.
When I tried google the error message I found some topics about it on the Touareg forums, but they got the error message while driving and it had to do with the keyless system (which my car doesn't have).
What might be causing this problem? My local VW dealer is not very used to Phaetons (I am the only on in my town with one).
Today when I head home I was getting the message "Move Selector Lever to Position P." It would come and go. No other lights or warning what so ever were lit. What this message was for and why it was displaying??

The transmission shift lever indicator not being in the proper position needed to be fixed!
After some searching, I realized what the issue was and was quite surprised that the "fix" is replacing the entire shift lever indicator assembly. Seems overkill but right on par of with the way the world works nowadays.
The other solution I found was by a company called Dorman. They make a Shift Indicator Cable Bracket, which is the only part that was damaged in my case as you can see here. The white part pointed at by the arrow is supposed to be attached to the rest of the white plastic.
I looked around the garage thinking I need some glue. And something to reinforce the freshly glued parts. That should have been much more difficult as I don't regularly fix tiny plastic parts BUT I quickly came across this old external hard drive cover.
Broke some tabs off, trimmed them to size and poured glue all over the place.
This is what I ended up with.
Now my OCD can focus on something else
Just got a 2014 Prius Three. All my precious cars (non-Prius) had an automatic on headlight system, noticed the Prius doesn't. Can I just replace the turn signal lever with one that has the 'auto' feature? Could it possibly be that simple?
View 2 RepliesOK, this happened again. Driving along, try to change from drive to sport, gear lever button (silver on side of gear lever) remains in the depressed position. Can't get our of Drive or Neutral. If you switch the car off it will never start again!! I call McDonald Automotive in Denver and then drive all the way from Breckenridge with the car stuck in Drive making sure I would never get into a position where I would have to reverse. Also the key is locked into the ignition. McDonald has a loaner waiting for me. However, this seems like it could potentially be a dangerous flaw in the gear lever mechanism. It is very unnerving, almost like you cannot stop the car under certain circumstances (even though you can put your brakes on and stop and you can put it in Neutral, but you cannot switch the car off).
View 5 RepliesDoes the memory seat function remembers the back position (angle)? Or does it just remember the height and forward/backward position of the seat? The back angle position is not remembered in my 2014 Avalon Limited but I am not sure whether I should report this as a problem or whether that is just the design.
View 2 RepliesI'm having a weird issue with my passenger side turn signal light. It's more of an annoyance than an actual problem. When I turn on my headlights both yellow turn signal lights also usually turn on but the passenger side one is not turning on anymore. The odd thing is that it still blinks as normal when I engage the turn signal. I replaced the bulb but it did not resolve the issue. I'm thinking it's an electrical short somewhere. It's not the wiring in the headlight housing because I tried an old housing I kept when I replaced my headlights last year and I still had the same issue. What I should check first?

I bought the new switch, but don't see how to get it out without taking the whole steering wheel off. I can't get to the screws on it at all. I got the plastic covers off, but can't see how to get the switch out.

All power adjustments on seat fine. I think problems are linked. Looking forward to access to wiring diagram? Seems to be a open circuit somewhere.

I turned off the "easy entry/exit function" and when I turn off the car the steering wheel still automatically moves into the most upward position. It's only suppose to do this with the function on.
Is something broken? Should I get this fixed?
