When I start my 2001 passat 1.8T 155,000+, my car shakes like it feels like it needs to catch a second before starting fully, and when it does fully start it gives a good kick but then stops, just curious of what it could be and what it could run me, but its not the battery I know that?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, and for the past couple of years, I have been having an incredibly frustrating issue with my car. When I go to turn the key, it sounds as if it is about to turn on (ie the engine is about to turn over and it sounds normal) then right before it catches, it will start clicking, the noise sounds like the battery is dead. When it first started happening, I called AAA, however by the time they reached me, the car had started again. Now when it occurs, I wait 10-15 minutes and it will start- every time. I have had it in to 4-5 different car repair shops, however no one can seem to figure out what it is. I have had the battery replaced, and several other things altered, etc, however nothing seems to fix the problem. I am not sure where to go from here, I was informed to check the fuel pump and/or filter yesterday- it happened twice on me yesterday as well.
View 3 RepliesRecently I bought an 01 Passat with a V6. Intermittently, when I go to start it, it cranks and cranks and doesn't catch. When this happens, the EPC and check engine light come on.
Other than that it is a fine car, I'm the second owner, and it was thoroughly maintained at VW dealerships and specialist. Recently there was a new oil pan and starter put in (w/in a month--previous owners).
My wife owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe, and recently i replaced the belt and idle pulley, I've worked on a few cars in my life and understand the basics and some on how to work on a car.But this has me baffled, the other day i decided to take her car to work. She warned me it had a a slow turn over sometimes i told her okay and headed off to work, drove fine to work no start up issue, but then i went to lunch and it had a slow start like she said. Then in the afternoon started just fine for the drive home to work. I stopped at a gas station to put a little fuel in and the car wouldn't start, it would just release a small cloud of smoke from where the the starter was, so i said ah loose starter wire. That however isn't the case, pulled the plastic shield from the bottom off abd the heat shield off the starter just to find nothing was wrong with either instead its the wire above that running from the wiring harness to the motor, how to fix this issue? View 1 RepliesAfter starting my Prius the engine was knocking and shaking. After running the engine for 30 - 45 seconds it operated normally. The car is always parked in our garage and the outside temperature was approx 32 degrees or a few colder. I have 30750 miles on the car.
View 1 RepliesOK--2001.5 1.8t Tip, 85k, nothing but Mobil1 since day one religiously. At around 81k miles the t/belt tensioner seized & let the belt jump and bend a few valves. Had VW do the repair under the p.t. warranty. Engine now runs very well again except there is a knock noise that sounds an awful lot like a crank or rod bearing. The noise is worse with the engine fully warmed up and in drive or reverse. Took it back to VW, they said it's a bearing in the a/c compressor. Sounded like B.S. to me, since the noise is no different with or without the a/c on. I picked up the car & removed the a/c belt at home & found the noise was exactly the same. I've about had it with VW on this issue. Been back 3 times with the noise complaint, & the noise is getting worse!!
View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 Accent, automatic, with 167,000 mostly city kilometers on it. 3 times, yesterday and today, when I turned the ignition on it sounded like it was going to start but didn't catch. When I tried again the second time it started. At first, I thought I just didn't turn the key to the right long enough but with it happening 3 times, I am not so sure.
I called my mechanic and he thought it might be the fuel pump. He suggested I turn it to the right then back 2 times, then start it the third time. I have spent a lot on it lately, new tires in April, transmission fluid, also had to replace the tie rod on one front wheel and bearings on the other. If it is the fuel pump, what happens if I don't replace it soon?
So i drive a 2001 F150 4.6L and over the last couple of years it has started pulling down and shaking heavily. I have taken it to mechanics and it always gave a code as a miss. well we replaced the coils and the plugs and of course it still has the problem. finally we did a compression test and it shows that #3 and #5 have no compression and the mechanic said it was either a blown head gasket, a valve or a cracked head. it has 230K miles on it so i was wondering what your thoughts on it were and also if it would be cheaper just to swap the motor.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS 4 Cylinder with roughly 100k miles. The car runs great, shifts great, drives smooth. The only issue I have is starting the vehicle. When turning the key the car cranks sometimes longer than normal and sputters a bit before fully starting. I feel somewhat of a jolt like the engine is firing but its not what I call smooth. The other day it cranked longer than normal started for 1/2 a second then died and I had to turn the key again to start. I have already replaced the spark plugs and air filters. A while back we had the fuel filter/pump replaced but I'm not sure what else to do considering that the car runs fine otherwise. I read something about an EGR valve and maybe it's a vacuum hose?...

View 1 RepliesI have a 1995 Subaru Impreza that I have been nursing along for the past 14 years. Recently, if I drive for a decent length of time (~10 miles), turn the car off to go into a store, and then try to start it up again, it won't start. It turns over fine, but never fully starts. If I let it sit for 20-30 minutes, it will start back up again. The temperature gauge reads normal--between hot and cold. Is there another temperature sensor that might be malfunctioning, telling the car that the engine is too hot to start? Where/what is this called?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2004 Dodge Dakota 2WD manual trans with 160K racked up. In the morning it does not like to start right away. I put the clutch down, key in the ignition, turn it to engage the electricity, say a prayer and turn. When it doesn't start nothing happens. No sounds. Nothing. If I hold the key fully turned and wait, sometimes much longer than 60 seconds, it starts and sounds just fine. Once it is running for some time I can turn it off and turn it back on again without hesitation. In colder weather it takes much longer to start.
View 4 RepliesMy trunk latch will not catch. It will close and stay closed, but when driving it trips the sensor that it's open. The Car will not alarm unless I push down on the trunk, but if a car drives by it trips the alarm.
I have removed the liner to expose the latch assembly, but can't find anything broken. Have been unable to remove the hard plastic surrounding the latch itself.
I just got my first VW its a 99 passat 1.8 turbo and the clutch seems to catch really high is that normal? its a brand new clutch!

View 10 RepliesGetting the bottom of the engine shaking problem? We have a new 07 2.0 Wagon and it has been driving fine. This afternoon after getting off the freeway (after about a 20 mile drive) came up to a stop light. Car in D, foot on brake.....car starts shaking. Running really rough. Once foot was let off, car rolled off as normal and then shaking went away. Happened 2 more times while waiting to get the a parking spot. After 10 minutes started it up and all is fine. No warning lights and it runs as expected. It has 250 miles on it.

View 6 RepliesI have a 2001 Passat (automatic, Turbo) On the highway, the engine shakes from about 65-75mph. When I hit around 80 (3000rpm) it seems like the Turbo kicks in and it isn't as bad. I noticed on my last oil change bill that they didn't put in synthetic oil even though they said they did. The people who I bought it from said they had engine problems when using regular and to only use synthetic. Could this be causing it? If not, what could it be?
View 5 RepliesLately Passat 2006 come up with new problem, when I stop at red light and hold brake engine kicks once or twice like it wants to shut off. right now it has only 1 error code P2181 coolant problem( check engine light is ON since I've got this car -own more then 5 years but before it was some air manifold code and p2181). I don't think this code related to this problem, I know my thermostat is not working properly- temperature is jumping from 160 to 200 when driving but never overheat. Beside kicking engine, it's takes little longer to start up engine in the morning, once I drive, it's fine- I can start in seconds.
7 month ago mechanic replace water pump and timing belt.
I found : " When the car is running, try taking the oil cap off- if you have to fight to even get it to turn, then it is a problem with the PCV valve on the front of the valve cover. It is a common issue. The valve sticks open and applies full manifold vacuum to the crankcase".
I am still pretty new to the VW world. About 2 months ago I bought an 04 GLX 4Motion Passat with a 2.8 V6. On Saturday night my fiance (and primary driver of the VW) went to go start the car to go out for the night and the check engine light came on and she said the car was kind of shaking. She decided to take my car instead. I went out yesterday and today to try to start it and it wont crank over; it sounds like it wants to but just wont. She also said that on Sat. night that it smelled like gasoline outside of the car. What this could be? I dont know if the engine is flooded or what the hell is going on. The car has 93,xxx miles on it.
View 2 Replies2006 Passat 2.0T ... Took the car for an oil change (non VW dealer) a few weeks back and about a week after the car started experiencing some vibrating/shaking from, I assume, the engine. This only occurs when the car is idling or at very low speeds.
It wasn't a typical shaking from side to side that you'd experience from most engines. The car was jumping front to back. It almost felt like stalling a manual transmission car. The revs jump slightly, about 100-200 rpm. It feels like the car wants to lurch forward and break free of the brakes. Now on some days this isn't a problem and on other days it's an issue.
Engine noise is a bit louder than usual. Sounds like the belts or the fan, but nothing is lose and the fan is working. I don't feel like all the power is there either, especially in lower gears and on take offs.
Ran the diagnostics, it didn't bring up anything other than some issues with the spark plugs and the coils. They were replaced but nothing changed with the problems. I have noticed oil level drop but there are no oil leaks anywhere.
