Passat (B5) :: Wiper Went Frozen In Place
Jul 8, 2008
Went out to the car today - and the wipers were in the 1/2 way position. I do not remember having the wipers on the last time I drove. So the upshot is - they now do not work at all. They are frozen in place. They "twitch" a bit when I adjust the stalk - but they do not go to the normal "resting" position.

So, this is the second winter in a row that my wipers refuse to work after getting frozen. It seems as though when they freeze up, if the motor can't wipe, even after I break them free and clear the ice, they won't work. Right now we are in a greater than one week cold front that is going to be well below freezing, and I don't have a garage to use. How can I re-set the system so it will try to wipe again? I think it is because the right wiper has not gone all the way down it's stroke, but it won't even try now.

When temperature is lower than 15 degrees windshield wiper fluid freezes in supply line or squirter. Is this because of the cover at top of inside of the hood? Does that cover prevent engine heat keeping the system operable at lower temperatures. We need this system operable in the mountains of CO where ice melt is spread on the roads.

The front spoiler on my wagon keeps popping out of place slightly. It's on the passenger side just above the fog lamp. If I press it in, it snaps into place, but pops out after some driving. Does it snap into place all around? Any quick diy to keep it in place?

Having A/C completely frozen? Driving back from Pittsburgh with the A/C defrost on, noticed that there was no air flow. This happened about 2 hours into the ride. After pulling over at a rest area and popping the hood, all of the A/C lines were frozen, and I assume the heat exchanger was also.
Turned the A/C off and continued to drive and it slowly defrosted enough to allow air to flow through the vents again.

Last week I tried to use my wipers and it seemed like they were stuck, I turned them off, it wasn't that bad but since then I tried to use them even when it was a lot warmer and could not have been frozen and they don't move at all now. What steps should I take to check all the ins and outs?

Winter is here and its the first winter i've had my 2006 Passat 3.6l. After a long night of freezing weather i attempt to open the door. After getting it loose, It wont seal close. When i shut the door it will just bounce off and open again.
My temp solution is to hold the door closed and press the lock key. The door then partially locks closed and then i have to pull it hard to make the seal close completely.

Ok I let My friends use my passat wagon to move afew things and when he brought it back my wipers where stuck in the upright position when the car is driving, on or off. When I hit the wiper switch they move slightly to the left before going back down and working as they are suppose to. But the second I turn them off they will go to the upright position and even if the car is turned off with them down, the second you start or turn the car on they will move to the upright position and stay that way. So it seems like this is their new resting place. My question is, how do I get them back to their original resting place down where they are suppose to be.

I just purchased a 99 1.8t and the drivers seat will not lock in place. It slides back and forth. I looked underneath and see the gearing but was wondering if this is a problem to where I need to remove the seat to fix or maybe some thing easier.

Our brakes froze the first cold day this winter. My mechanic says that the brake booster valve filled with water and froze. Also, last winter our tiptronic just quit working. We never fixed it. Should we bother to fix it?

My latest issue is not having wiper fluid shoot out of the dispenser units to the wipers. I think it may be frozen, but the weather has only gotten warmer since it worked last.
What's odd is that, even if frozen, I would think one side might work and the other would not, but neither works. I can hear the pump trying to squirt it out, but nothing.
I would rather fix it myself if I could. I have already taken the car to the dealership four times in the last month (steering rack 2X, catalytic converter, lower vent not working)....
I did top it off with fluid last night, but there was/is already plenty in there.

The windshield wipers aren't working properly. I can hear the motor trying to work, and either blade will try to work but get stuck against each other. I checked the fuses and nothing is burned out. I'm not sure if it is related to the problem but yesterday my husband was washing the car and I noticed that he had pulled the wiper blades away from the windshield so they were sticking up in the air. We filled the wiper fluid. I'm wondering if something got broken when he opened the hood without putting the blades down? They seem out of sync. He also did an oil change. Could he have done something to cause this problem while doing the oil change?
I want to open up and take a look at the motor functions, but I'm not sure where it's located and how to get to it.

Windshield wiper on the passenger side is set a little high for my liking. The other VWs that I have had including my '06 Jetta have it parked down below the 4in. dark black band along the bottom of the windshield so that that driver does not see the arm in view when driving.
The dealer doesn't think it can be lowered and I can understand that there are detentes involved where it attaches...move it down one detente and he may think it will rub on the car's body.
Do others have this wiper in this parked position, or is it below the dark bland out of your vision when driving?

Have to replace the wiper motor in '06 Passat 2.0T? Do you need some type of puller to get the wiper arms off the spindles so the black plastic cover can be removed to access the wiper motor?

what are the common problems that cause the rain sensors to not work. The speed one and two both work, but when i set it to auto the wiper will work one time but then never again. when i move the sensitivity switch to the left and then back to the right it will work once more.

So my rear wiper works, but I can get no washer fluid to come out. Yes, I filled it properly. Is there a separate pump for the rear? a separate fuse? is it clogged?

Passenger side wiper blade extending over the glass? Asking the dealer to see if this needs adjustment.

Is the wiper on the passenger side supposed to be visible above the hood line when in a resting position? It looks as though there is room for it to retract under the hood line, but mine doesn't seem to. Not the end of the world, but I would prefer not to see anything creeping up in the passenger corner when I am looking out. Maybe the wrong blades installed keeping it from retracting?
