Ok so i was sitting at the light and my car was making weird noises like a computer was loading or something and then all of a sudden the car just randomly died ..
what is wrong???
Today, just after starting my car, as I was driving I heard a noise that sounded like paper shuffling in the back seat. I pulled into a parking spot and got out and checked the back seat and didn't see anything odd there.
I continued driving and then (I think while braking, not sure) I heard a weird hissing/gurgling noise almost like someone letting fizz out of a soda bottle. It sounded like it was right over my head, behind me. Then I heard what sounded like something falling from the back seat onto the floor. (a light thud but it sounded close to me, inside the car) Then all noises stopped and everything was normal for the rest of the 15 minute drive home.
I seriously doubt it was the brakes though I was told my brakes will need replacing soon.
I have definitely heard noises behind me that turned out to be in front of me and vice versa so I suppose it could have been coming from the front. When I got home I cleaned out the back and looked under the hood and seats to see if there were any animals in there. Didn't see or hear anything. I know brakes can squeal, grind and vibrate but can they hiss?
My uncle just bought this used 2004 Prius for me (with my money) and I'm having some issues.
The car makes some weird noises and I've made a video. Also I think the battery is dying because sometimes the speedo doesn't display and I have to disconnect the battery to get it to come back. The Brake vsc and some other indicator lights also came on. I reset them but they came back in week or so.
Had an issue with the negative cable n had to replace the bolt n nut. Since then its been making weird noises under the dash n under the hood even when the key is off. Sounds like something moving around under there almost but i know there is nothing. Also making buzzing noise every 30 minutes or so for a few then stops. Separate noises n 2 separate issues tho

View 12 RepliesI have a 2001 vw passat. It makes a weird noise when im going under 15mph or so (with the windows down). I dunno if it makes it when I am going faster or not because of wind noise. [IMG].... I put in a html thingy so I guess we'll see if it works or not....

It is from this hose that connects to my header it has this crack in it and it is sucking air in. My question is what is the name of this hose, and what does it do?
View 2 RepliesSo when the car is idling(warmed up) I suddenly have a random popping noise coming from the front passenger side of the car. It is about 9 pops evenly spaced about every 1/2 second and then it stops. This is all while not moving....Like when sitting at a light. Then about 5 minutes later it will do it again. It seems its becoming more & more frequent.
View 8 RepliesAbout a month ago, I started my car and the computer started beeping saying STOP! check coolant...so i did....it was on empty...this was rather weird to me because i remember seeing it on normal like a week ago....so i added the coolant to the max level in the tank.....Two weeks later it was on the MIN level line....so i added some again....then a week later it decreased a little again.... it would seem that its a leak....however i do not see any wet spots under the car...it seems that the coolant disappears due to driving the car... Could it be the coolant? Also, how does G12 coolant differ from regular coolants sold in auto stores?

View 4 RepliesI have a weird problem with the AC on my 2001 Passat. Every so often, evidently at random, the computer will show an outside temp that is far below actual. It will sometimes drop to -58F, even when it is hot outside. It won't always go that far down--and it eventually returns to the true temperature. But when this happens, the AC turns off, or the heat turns up (I have the Climatronic thingy). We have to shut the climate control off altogether in order not to roast. Turning off the car is not always a fix for this, and neither is turning off the AC. I suspect a sensor of some kind has gone bad, but the dealership wants an exorbitant amount of money just to dig deep enough in the car to discover what is wrong. This has been going on for 6 months, in all weather, but with greater frequency lately.
View 3 RepliesThe computer apparently calculates the fuel economy per trip (or a series of trips if the car is stopped less than 2 hours) but I don't know how to get it to display the fuel economy for the tank full. Normally I'd reset the computer upon refilling but since it calculates per trip it doesn't calculate per tank. Fortunately the fuel gauge seems to be pretty accurate and each mark is approx 1 gal so I can do a quick approximation but I'm used to having the car do the tankful calculation. BTW, I reset on MFA 1, I've never reset on MFA 2 and that doesn't show tankful economy either.
View 3 RepliesPulling out of the driveway my 2004 Passat's computer told me there's an issue with the coolant and that I should STOP, so I pulled back in. My VW dealer has this coolant in stock (G12, red) but considering it is 7 degrees outside (or minus 14 C) I wonder whether I can't ignore the warning and drive the 2 miles rather than get on my bicycle.

I recently put in an Evo intake, forge dv(reversed), denso iridiums and an upsolute chip and ever since I put the intake in I hear a honking air sound from under the hood. I only hear it for a little bit when I reach a certain point on the gas pedal then it goes away until I reach that point again under throttle. It's like a really low car horn sound. I know it can't be normal for my mods but it started ever since I put in my intake. It's just annoying. Can it be a leak in the intercooler hose or a vacuum leak. I can't figure it out I looked under the car and the intercooler hoses seem fine.

Some months ago I chipped it and it drives very good and I also changed the diverter valve to a 710N.
But now it is fast, but sometimes it just feels like it doesn't hold boost as it should. and I hear a very loud psss sound just like a BOV when I shift. Could it be the 710N which has been broken? Or is it a vacuum line to the DV that has a leak?
I have an 07 Passat 2.0T with 48,000+ on it. I tend to overthink any little sound my car makes that doesn't seem normal and this one has me perplexed. When I am driving at low speeds, windows down, I hear what amounts to a "psst" sound come from my front shocks only. I understand I have gas shocks on the front but it doesn't seem like any other car makes this sound.
The ride is comfortable and the sound does not seem to affect the suspension feel. Is this a normal sound? Do you think there is an issue with the shocks? I have been searching high and low for someone with a passat that has written about this sound from the shocks.
Turbo leaking? Is it costly to fix? I have a 2002 Passat, V-4 engine. I just took it in to get my oil changed and the mechanic told me that there's turbo leak. I have also been experiencing a weird siren like noise when I drive and the car feels like it's struggling whenever I go over 40 mph and or driving up a steep hill.
View 8 RepliesLast night I noticed a weird sound coming from the left side (alternator side) of my engine. Took a video.... I have already done my timing belt replacement about 10k miles ago. Oil is full, no leaks. Have the pcv block so it has a slight putting sound (as stated from their install manual). You can hear an inconsistent hollow growling sound that happens at idle but also under revs. Didn't notice the sound this morning but a lot last night.

Yesterday when I was coming home my '01 started going on the fritz. The ABS light came on in the console, the Brake light started flashing, and in the onboard computer I received three kinds of messages, "Brake Fault" "Service Manual" and "STOP". What is going on?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 Passat 2.0T with 5000 miles. I love the car, handling, comfort, power, refinement and all related but had a big shock when I went to the VW dealer for 5000 mile check. The service tech said my car had a optional computer software upgrade to regulate the intake valve (mostly to keep it from sticking open). I thought it was fine to do the upgrade EXCEPT when he said that if I did the upgrade , I would lose the gear indicator lights on the center dash between the speedo and tach! .....so, I would no longer have visual indication of Park, reverse etc....or indication of 1,2,3,4,5,6 for the tiptronic tranny mode. Why or if you have been able to do the software upgrade for the intake valve, WITHOUT losing the the indicator lights on the dash?
View 24 RepliesLast night on our way home I was on the highway and we get into slow moving traffic around 25-30 MPH I get to heard this tap tap tap tap noise. which was going away when accelerating or braking.. and coming back when leaving the car rolling by itself... I did a bunch of recordings but this is the one you can heard the best... noise actually changes with speed and when turning, but again it goes away if I touch the brakes or the gas...
Noise appears to come from the front driver side.
