I start car today morning and I got message at display: STOP CAR BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE MANUAL. Message was gone after 3 seconds. Happened 3 times and I don`t see it again. I was still driving. Nothing is wrong. Brakes are working. What is it?
View 4 RepliesI had the light and sound show pop up on the display of my 00 2.8 wagon this week. The ABS light, the brake light and occasionally the TC light combined with a big STOP in the display and Brake Failure.
I took it to my local and he did a quick scan and the ABS computer isn't communicating, indicating it's fried.
2004 Passat 1.8t. recently been having this problem where when I turn at 30-40 mph he gets a chime, followed by a "stop" indication on the dash along with "brake failure" displayed.. also the brake symbol comes into view as well... I haven't connected any scanners to it to see what's going on, but I'm not sure if it will show anything.. The CEL isn't on either..

View 4 RepliesThe other day, I was driving my 2006 Prius on I-20 in Shreveport. As I came off the exit and approached route 80, my navigation display read "PROBLEM", and the car suddenly coasted to a stop. All of this occurred in about 100 feet, so I was lucky to be able to coast the car to the shoulder, because it just died where it stopped. If this had happened while I was on the highway, my whole family would have probably been killed, as there was no way we would have been able to safely get out of the way of the multitude of semi trucks that drive that road.
I attempted to re-start the car, and the red triangle warning appeared on the display, along with the little car with the exclamation point in the middle of it, otherwise known as the hybrid system warning icon. Needless to say, the car would not turn over.
I immediately called Toyota to see if they had any info to get the car going. Toyota was absolutely useless, and the customer service agent said the only recall showing on my model was a floor mat recall. I told him that I knew he was only doing his job, but it was a shame Toyota actually believes Americans are stupid enough to believe the floor mats are the problem. Luckily, we had AAA, so the car was towed home, after a two hour wait.
Diagnostics : I checked all fuses and relays, checked battery connections, and saw no apparent problems.
2004 prius. I change the brakes on various cars all the time, and never had this problem. After I changed both sides, I started the car, and saw 4 lights:
- Red brake light
- The yellow exclamation light
- ABS light
- VSC light
The car now stops funny, and reading the service manual, it says that if there's a failure detected, that it will revert back to very basic braking (no abs, only fronts, etc..)... As I was exiting off the fwy, I realized this when one of my front wheels locked up, even and I was not stopping very well. Scared the crap out of me.
In any case, I can't see what I may have done which would cause a failure. The only thing I could think of is to bleed the brakes again, but I did this and think it's ok. Is there anything else I can check or is this something I have to get serviced? I saw another thread where they suspected the actuator, but it is somewhat a coincidence that it would go bad after I replace the pads? I'm not sure how the regenerative brakes works on a prius, and whether there's anything I could visually inspect to see if I bumped something???
So I'm driving home from work today, when I notice a new little light in the instrument cluster (looks like a little sun with a ! in the middle). So I dig out the manual and read..."Bulb failure or malfunction in the adaptive front lights system."
I drove up close to see which DRL light is not on...so....at 15k miles my right front head lamp was out. I called my local dealer...the bulb is covered and will be replaced at no charge (4 yrs/50k miles). They said I could stop by anytime and get it replaced. So, no problem there...
But....question: Why do VW bulbs blow so often?? My old '99 Golf and '01 GTI both blew no less than 5 head lamp bulbs starting at about 15k miles (same as my current Passat now). I see VW's all the time with one "eye" out - just an observation - why is this?
Within the past two weeks i've had a warning light that came on. it has come on about 4 times once 2 times within about 5 minutes. the warning comes up on the display screen on the dashboard and says STOP then brake failure then service manual. i've already taken it to a dealer to get it checked out and it came back with nothing. that was after the second time it happened. it has since happened again. it seems to only be happening on cold mornings. i don't know if this has and effect.
View 6 RepliesI took my 2000 passat 1.8t to a couple of places and both say that my abs and brakes are fine even though there is a flashing light that says brake lights failure and abs light. The brake lights do work. Is there a way for me to clear the code?

View 4 RepliesI just started getting this weird warning message on my dash console that says "STOP, STOP, Brake Failure, Service Manual" and the Brake and ABS lights turn on and then after a couple minutes it that all goes away.
I have checked the brake fluid and the fluid sensor and those are fine and i unhooked my battery and had it restart, but it still is giving me this message intermittently. My brakes work fine and i just had my brake pads done recently, so i know that isnt the problem.
Ok so this is the problem now, i went to check my fuses and pulled a #20 out to see if the cigarette lighter fuse was blown. Guess what? i start the car and all of a sudden the Electronic Parking brake failure kicked on. I tried to get the car out and now it won't get out of park! FML i heard that you can just unplug the battery for 15 min and that should reset the car but who knows... I got vw roadside coming to see what they can do it might need to get towed though
View 7 RepliesTwo weeks ago a large, industrial truck dropped a piece of bent steel pipe on the interstate in front of my 2010, 50k miles, Prius and (sadly) I was forced to hit or swerve into rush hour traffic and cause an accident. It tore up a good part of the cooling system and did some body damage. Of course I didn't know this at the time, but it began to overheat, so I pulled off the freeway and had it towed to a body shop. After about ten days, I got my Prius back.
View 13 RepliesI have problem with my brake system. When is comes to last 10 feet to a stop light always make this squeaky noise/high pitch noise. Brought it to the dealer for few times and they said this is a high-performance brake that's why there is these type of sound. I have a 2014 IS350.
View 5 RepliesYesterday while driving my B5 Passat suddenly I heard 2 beeps and a STOP is displayed together with the ABS and brake warning lights just for a few seconds then turned to normal. I took the car to the VW service they've connected the car to the diagnostic system and said no fault. Since yesterday I saw this warning 1 more time. They recommended me to replace the break fluid tank where the fluid level sensor is mounted on, just for replacing the sensor since the fluid level is ok.
Today while the engine is running at idle I pulled out the break fluid sensor cable for 1 or 2 minutes but nothing is displayed and saw no break indication. What will be reason for this?
My brakes are working fine very smooth full of fluid. But for some reason sometimes when i take a hard right turn the stop brake fault pops up on my info screen. I live in nh and it is very cold/ ice too.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 passat 1.8T and the ABS light and brake light comes on and shortly after the "stop, break fault "message shows up. The warning does not come on every time I drive the car only sometimes. Brake fluid has been topped off and everything else seems fine. Is it a bad sensor somewhere? Something else maybe?
My check engine light is also on and the code is p0118. I replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor but I still get the code. Was there some secret way to replace it that I didn't know about? Something else I should check?
I have gotten a STOP Brake Fault Service Manual warning sign on my car for a couple days and now my car wont start... no ABS light is on...
View 5 RepliesSo i just bought my 2003 passat wagone gls 1.8tand it has this "STOP" "BRAKE FAULT" coming up on the dash display and the ABS light and traction control light is on steady and the BRAKE light is flashing....a code was ran for the speed sensor and that was replaced but the light is still on....what could it be?????
View 10 RepliesI recently replaced the brakes on my '99 Passat with all new rotors and pads. I used Mintex pads in front, as recommended by Adirondack Auto Brokers, and after a couple thousand miles, they are all broken in. The car stops fine and the pedal feels good, but there is always a groaning/vibration/creaking right at the very end of the stop. Nothing unsafe or a problem, but just annoying. It is only when the car comes to a complete stop at the last 6 inches of motion. If I let the brake pedal up slowly from a stop, it will also do it. What can I do to get rid of this, or is it from the pads and I just have to live with it until they are replaced?
View 2 Replies2004 Passat GLS 1.8t 5 spd. This started last week. It is very inconsistent, but I seem to have it happen more when it's cold out. Sometimes I am coming to a stop, just leaving from one or could be doing 30-60 mph - truly no rhyme or reason. Anyway, the brake warning light flashes, the cluster beeps loudly 3 times and it says STOP on the instrument screen. It then changes to "brake fault" and then "service manual". After that cycle, everything goes away and it usually won't do it again. One time I had it do it 3 times back to back. Brakes work fine. I have good pad depth. Fluid looks like I should flush it, but level is fine. I scanned w VAG-COM and found no faults.
