Car can't go above 20mph and the tach hits 8000RPM. Looks like the tranny is not getting out of 1st gear. No dash lights are on to alert errors.

Just took her in on Friday to have valve cover and oil pan leaks fixed, and within an hour of picking it up today the automatic transmission won't get out of 1st gear… rpms rising and can't exceed about 29 mph. Straight 6 engine. Any chance the mechanic messed something up, like a throttle cable or something, or is this just terrible karma?

I drove it home this way, but after sitting for 90 minutes, now it works fine. I've heard about the input and output sensors. What should I replace? I went to HMA service to get info on both sensors, but it wasn't detailed enough.

After changing the alternator (alternator did die and drained my battery, the shop recharged the battery) now it seems be stuck in 3rd gear and does not wont to shift (it is a automatic). Fluids are good, transmission was flushed between 50-60,000 miles.
View 3 RepliesThis is the first car I've ever owned with an automatic transmission. When the car is stopped and in gear, I can feel a slight vibration and hear some accompanying noise. Shifting to neutral gets rid of the noise and vibration. Is this normal? Car has 9500 miles.
View 2 Repliesi have a 94 vw passat vr6 that wont shift. when you start off in drive it takes a second for it to start to move. if you shift it manually from first on up it shifts okay but sometimes it slips in between 2nd and 3rd. the only time the car will shift is after driving it a few miles at about 65-70 it will shift itself into second gear and not come out you have to shut the car off and wait a few minutes to "reset" itself. after driving it on the highway it kicked itself into second gear, i pulled over and the fan was on and it looked as if there was some fluid on top of the transmission but cant recall if it had been there earlier. i checked the ATF and there was no shortage of fluid. could the fan be on due to the transmission over heating? what could be the cause of it not shifting?

View 1 RepliesI have a problem with my transmission I believe. Its 2004 passat 4-cyl turbo. Not sure whats wrong. When i start the car the entire display (P-R-N-D) is lit up like they are all in gear. It drives but seems to be stuck in 3rd gear I would guess.
View 2 Repliesmaking a right turn and accelerating up a slight incline trans hangs in 2nd gear to 4000 rpm until I hit the + paddle. Dealer says this is normal for the DSG. I'm not buying it! Occasionally it is reluctant to upshift from 2nd on a straight way during normal acceleration. 2014 sel v6 dsg.
View 6 RepliesSo couple of days ago, I went shopping. no issues. after shopping i fired it up, no issues, put it reverse, car was shaking, put the car in neutral. No issues, put the car in drive car is shaking again. i started to drive no shaking, however the car felt like it had no power, I only felt shaking during switching from R TO N TO D. So I change to manual mode and see the gear was 3rd. i was not able to change gears manually, neither did the tranny switched them for me. I drove home about a 3 miles. shut the car off, restart it...gears and car drives normal. Took to dealership, they checked it...and of course no issues. Ihave 44k miles and 50k warranty expires next week, nice, huh? got another year of powetrain warranty left.

View 3 RepliesThis past Sat, when I started the car in the morning, noticed that the Gear selector indicator in the MFD is stuck. The display background is reversed and moving gears does not change the display, in the regular or sports mode. When I go from P to R (or D), I occasionally have a jerk. I drove the car car a bit since and no other apparent issues. It is a Triptronic.
View 6 RepliesThis is a car i am working on. 01 4motion passat. automatic. Tree fell on it. We put a new roof, quarter, door seats. Last night we moved it outside to clean the shop and went to move it back in. Won't shift out of park. Next tried turning ignition on the backing it off a little and cant get to neutral. Check fuses.
Brake light switch has been previously replaced by someone. and it works. Light next to gear selector working. brake lights fine. I have taken the center console out as much as I can. I can't get it completely out. But everything in there seems ok. When I press the brake in I don't hear any click or anything near the selector.
I unhooked the battery for about an hour. I hooked it back up. I started the car put the selector into drive. CLUNK. Disengaged the parking brake. Drove. It turns out when I shifted to D it went straight to third and stayed there. I turned off the car, restarted it. Still stuck in third. Drove a few miles. Restarted it. No more issues. My guess the tranny went into safe mode, but why?
View 3 RepliesI was driving and the red BRAKE came on flashing and it beeped. Then the message came on saying Emergency Brake Failure - See Manual. Then the Emergency Brake light came on. Next the Antislip light came on. After a few miles another light came on - ESL or something like that. Then the ABS started kicking in almost every time I stepped on the brake. Later the trans stuck in 3rd gear.
Wouldn't upshift or downshift - even in TIP mode. I took it to the dealer the next day and they couldn't find anything wrong, so they gave it back to me and said to call baco or bring it in if it does it again. Then a week later it did the same thing except getting stuck in 3rd. Took it back again. This time the Emergency brake light was still on. They have had it since yesterday and still can't find anything wrong.
I suggested looking for a bad ground connection somewhere. They say they have done that. Battery is original but starts just fine. Also suggested battery cables.
It's a '07 B6 Wagon - 3.6L TIP ....
Hit a puddle-now car is stuck in 3rd gear... with parking brake fault light lit up. How to fix it? it happened on the highway on the way to work at 70mph . so now i either have to drive home with it the rpms at 4k or get it towed. Car is a 2006 passat with 35000 miles.
View 5 RepliesMy 07 AT 2.0 has a weird problem - when auto downshifting after a long drive at highways speeds, the whole car thuds. This happens after driving about 20 miles or so at 60MPH+. 5 or 10 miles are not a problem.
What happens is that when it slips down into 2nd, it sounds like something jams (no grinding). The force/feeling is similar to running into something at a slow speed - like bumping a car while parking.
If I slip into Tip and downshift manually, it doesn't happen. Outside of this the car has 22K miles and drives great.
I have a 04 Saturn Ion with auto transmission. When I go to shut off the ign. sw. after driving the ign. key won't shut all the way off and you can not remove the key. The key operates just fine. I can start the car, turn the engine off but the key won't turn all the way off to release the key. I was wondering if it could have something to do with the neutral safety switch on the transmission. How I can access it and test it to see if that is the problem?
View 30 Replies2013 Elantra GT ... Odd sound when shifts at higher RPMs. Like a chirp, or a tiny blow off valve from an old home turboed civic. Some sort of leak? When the engine is under load, it sounds like I may have some sort of minor exhaust leak, though that is nowhere near audible in the video. Very curious as to what this is.

My wife have a 2004 Camry SE V4 with auto transmission. She went to TJ Max yesterday and the car is stuck in park, we had to tow the car home. Pushing the Park override button does release it and allow me to shift and drive.
The car starts, head lights, cabin lights, radio and power lock works, BUT power window and AC/climate control does not work at all, dead, no power.
My brake lights work with the exception that one bulb is dead, has been dead for a long time without causing any issues. I pulled out ALL the fuses in cabin and engine, all the fuses are in good shape. I tried looking for a Brake fuse but there is none, tripled check the big fuses but none are blown. I also tried looking for the brake solenoid by the brake pedal but, I didn't know which one it was or where it is located.
