I got a b5 passat and when i start the car and drive it even when its warm if I don't let it sit for a minute or 2 and i just take off it will make chirping sounds like something is spooling but chirping until about a minute or 2 could this be my turbo ?
I feel like the turbo isn't getting enough oil or something into it so its making this kind of sounds until it gets the oil.
I've got a 99 1.8t, and every once in awhile when the turbo starts spooling I hear a fluttering, not sure how to describe it. sort of like when your valves run low on oil and you can hear em tick? Like something is fluttering in the turbo when its spooling, instead of just a steady sucking of air.
View 2 RepliesEvery time I start my passat after it sits for more than 4 or 5 hours (overnight, workday) it sounds like the turbo is winding up at full rpm for about 10 secs. and then stops. It only happens on cold starts. I've had it in two shops with no luck what so ever.
View 8 RepliesI just got a 2001 Jetta 1.8t 100k miles, and had some repairs done - timing belt - K03S Turbo - Forge Tip - 2.5 Turboback Exhaust. I bought the car without a working turbo, yesterday I got the car back from the shop and it was a night and day difference..... but to my point, today I had some CEL's pop - Charge Pressure control positive deviation, Pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve, and secondary Air injection system incorrect flow detected. Now I have never owned a turbocharged car before, but when my windows are rolled up and im accelerating, I can hear what I am guessing is the turbo starting to spin over by my passenger side(2k ish rpms+) except it doesn't have clean spin sounds, kinda sounds like bearings are goofed or something. This noise only happens when I am accelerating or cruising? I also have felt really no change is boost or power!!
View 2 RepliesMy 07' sport has been spooling slowly and I hear the turbo whine slowly raise in pitch. After it gets up to speed the car then gets a surge of power. Previously I could not hear the turbo during the spooling phase and the power would have a light and smooth push like a bed of air under mid-heavy 4th gear acceleration. Seems most obvious around 2.5k rpm from a neutral throttle position. Dealer claims normal function, but it is definitely abnormal. I have also had oil pressure lights which generated no codes and were explained away as the engine being sensitive to the oil Ievel which was slightly high. I thought at first it was the cold weather, but after our 80 degree day yesterday and same results.
View 2 RepliesOk so I just replaced the oil cooler, added 2 coolant filters, changed the oil/filter, and both fuel filters, and installed the updated turbo drain tube. I get it all back together, it takes a minute before it will fire but I figured that was normal for not having any oil in the sump under the cooler and changing both fuel filters. Everything seems fine, checking for leaks and I notice that I don't hear the whistle of the turbo so I go look at my edge CT and have zero boost and it stays at zero even if I rev it a bit. Obviously I didn't redline it or run it for very long maybe a total of 10 minutes over several times.
I will note that I did find a plug for the driver side injectors wasn't plugged in the first time I started it, but I shut it down pretty quick and plugged it in. So then after I noticed the turbo not spooling I used the chip to pull the codes and had a whole bunch related to the unplugged harness and one for turbo underboost. Figured it was because the harness was unplugged so I just cleared the codes and tried again, now I'm not getting any codes but I'm also not getting any turbo boost the only code that it is throwing is the P1000 "on-board diagnostic systems readiness test not complete" do I need to go drive it for the learning sequence because I had the batteries disconnected for a couple days?
Having an issue with my 05 f350. Seems when I chomp on the the throttle I get tons of boost 30 lbs plus with no power. Seems most prevalent when starting on a hill , or hard on the throttle off the line . Also getting turbo "bark " when backing off throttle. It's less prevalent when feathering the throttle and usually more noticeable 1/2 throttle or more. I'm thinking could be the Vgt actuator or clogged/ dirty ebp sensor?
View 10 Replies2005 f350 6.0 all stock except egr delete. My turbo is spooling up and down constantly. I can actually watch my VGT duty cycle fluctuate while sitting at an idle too. I've cleared the codes and p0299 always shows up first, but then I'll get p0069 BARO/MAP, and a p0470 exhaust pressure sensor eventually. Sometimes it takes an hour of driving before those show up. I can watch all these values on my torque pro, and nothing seems out of the ordinary other than the turbo opening and closing at will. What can cause this? I hate to just start throwing sensors at it.
View 11 RepliesAs I was getting ready to leave town with the tractor loaded up, I was accelerating with the turbo spooling up when I heard a bit of a pop and lost power (engine still running and all, just very low power like you get when the turbo fails). I wasn't far from the shop so I came back and started getting a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust, it doesn't smell like diesel, probably more like oil. Definitely smoke, not coolant. I pulled it around back and shut it down to go grab AE and scan it and it shows a P0475, starting it back up has light smoke at idle and it idles fine but as soon as you give it any throttle it starts smoking pretty badly.
Researching it looks like the most likely cause for this is the EBPV itself but before tearing it down that far. This is the only code it's showing.
Truck has 272k on it, turbo was rebuilt a couple of years ago but we didn't do anything with the pedestal at that time. I guess in retrospect, I probably should have done the EBPV delete and the resistor fix then but I didn't think about it at the time.
On another note, my AE is not showing any of the system test for some reason, the drop down is blank. I have version 7.0.1, so it's an old version but I'm working on an old truck, so... What that might be? I've got the truck pulled into the shop now to let it cool down. I'll probably let it sit overnight and take the turbo and EBPV out tomorrow unless someone has a better suggestion...
The chirping sound happens when I go over bumps but not all the time. If I take a short little ride to the store at low speeds it won't happen but as soon as I get driving in the city or on the highway it sounds like a bird on crack back there, really loud as I go over any type of bumps. I searched and learned that it could be the wheel rubbing the caliper but its not that. There is nothing leaking back there and no visible signs of damage or wear. Brakes have plenty of pad left and rotor is good, i check the tire well also and everything is tight.

On cold starts its makes a chirping sound under the hood that gets louder as you accelerate but goes away after motor warms up. The sound is similar to a loose or bad fan belt. But the noise is coming from the back passenger side of the engine when you listen under the hood.
Car also has no power. Had a good pull when i test drove the vehicle but now its a dog. It seems like its running on three cylinders or the turbo aint even working
Car is a 5 speed and its a struggle to put the car into first gear but every other gear is smooth. To get it in first you gota be stopped, put it in second then to first and you gota push the shifter left till you feel it pop in gear. Also have to hold it in 1st or it will sometimes pop out...
With the windows down today I notice that the turbo spool sounds like a damn laser. Boost leak or bearing. That is the question.

I a m wondering if i do have one is it causing any damage? my guess would be running rich but id like to get another opinion! my boost used to peak at 11 and now since the noise is getting louder its only peaking at 9! im gonna do a boost leak test but in the mean time im not gonna drive it if its bad!
View 4 RepliesI have a 1999 passat 1.8t with 197k miles. When I drive if you listen really closely the engine makes a pretty cool sound like a turbo winding. It's a really really low whooooooo on the first and second gear. You cant hear it unless you have the windows down and there's like no other cars. Is this normal? My friend said the turbo might be going bad ?
View 5 RepliesI did an earlier post that the engine in our 2006 would make a gurgling sound for up to a minute after the engine was shut off. I received some replies, mostly saying that this noise was normal.
Well, the other day I decided to check the fluid level in the radiator's reservoir & it was low so I filled it and ---- the gurgling noise has stopped.
Could this gurgling just be a warning that the radiator's fluid is a bit low? So far, this filling has worked for us !! I'd bet that this is rarely checked by any dealer during an oil change?
My 2013 Prius v (lowercaes v for the Prius v wagon, not an uppercase v) has right at 4100 miles on it. In the past few months, I had to get the entire odometer/instrument panel swapped out when it developed crazing lines, hazy circles.
After fighting with a couple of dealers and them blaming me for the defects in this failed part, the original dealer finally replaced it. Now I'm hearing a chirping/squeaking sound whenever accelerating that seems to be coming from this same area. The back seat/door on the drivers side also rattles, but that's a separate problem.
This is the most squeaky, rattly car I've ever owned. And that includes a 1966 Mustang, which wasn't the best car ever made. I'm pretty disappointed in Toyota's "quality" which appears sub-standard compared to the Chevy and Ford's I've owned. But that to the side, what this squeak is? It sounds exactly (and I mean exactly) like this ....
My 2011 Golf with the 2.5 has developed a rapid chirping sound at 55-60 mph, that varies in rapidity as I decelerate from 60 mph. Doesn't do it at lower or higher speeds. It isn't terribly loud, but noticeable. Only have a little over 24,000 miles on it.
View 5 RepliesAs the title says, I have a 2013 accent with an automatic transmission and 63k miles. Just bought it, used. The car seems to be fine, except I've noticed that when I am giving the engine some gas and it has work to do, i.e. accelerating or going up a hill, it will squeek / chirp a bit, but only between 1800 and 2000 rpm. Its not very loud, and goes away when it's outside of that rpm range. It seems to happen more often once the engine is warm and when the car is already at speed, rather than when it's revving in park or accelerating from a standstill.

It's a bit quiet, sry about that, all I have is windows movie maker. The sound is present at 0:08, 0:16, 0:36, and 0:45.
Is this something I should worry about? I saw another thread which mentioned "dieseling", a sound like a diesel engine caused by a bad knock sensor, leading to incorrect ignition/valve timing. It sounds a little bit like a diesel engine to me, is this the same thing?
I took my 2002 Chevy Prizm to a Firestone shop to have the tires rotated, battery and serpentine belt replaced, oil changed, and brakes adjusted. Yesterday, I noticed a chirping sound when I accelerate. Yesterday was also the first time since the maintenance work that I was driving without any music playing. So, it's possible that the chirping sound was happening before.
View 5 RepliesI recently purchased a 1999 Nissan Sentra with 189K on it. The car runs great and the AC ran ice cold. The porblem was when the AC turns on a very loud noise is heard it sounds like a million crickets chirping.I took it to a mechanic and he said it was a bad AC Compressor. So I replaced the AC compressor, belt tensioner pulley and serpentine belt.The noise is still there.So here is my further troubleshooting:1. the noise is clearly present when the AC is on.2. With the AC off the noise is heard only in short burst of maybe a second or two.3. When I remove the FAN relays (all 3) the noise goes away (with or without AC on).4. If i leave the fan relays in a disconnect the FANS power, you can still hear the noise. (So the fans are not the issue)5. I also removed the AC clutch and the noise is still heard.

Front brakes have a constant chirping sound that goes away when brakes are applied.
New front brakes were installed in November, OEM rotors and pads.
They were quiet as a mouse, until i installed a new set of struts and springs along with 10mm front spacers.
(Yes I am using extended lug bolts).
I took the fronts apart this weekend and lubed the hell out of them, still squeaking.
My next thought is to use some of that CRC disc brake quiet red goo stuff, but I'd rather not use that if i don't have to.
