Passat (B5) :: Trunk Water On Right Side?
May 21, 2006
I have water in my trunk. It seems to be more on the right side (the passenger side) but if it rains hard enough it gets all over the trunk. Because both of my key fobs have dead batteries I haven't gone into the trunk in about 2 weeks so now its all moist and smells like a dirty fishtank in there. I even had a small piece of plywood in there that is now warped and moldy. I've seen some threads that talk about a drainage tube that runs from the sunroof to the trunk? Where in the trunk would I find this drainage tube? That would turn me off VWs forever. Just when i thought the Passat was the best car I ever had. I was planning on having this car another 5 years.

Just noticed a puddle of water around the adblue tank in the right side of the trunk, I popped the cover off where you would fill the adblue tank and there was more water around that area too...

On Tuesday evening we had some torrential downpours in my area. Yesterday when I went to open my trunk after work yesterday to collect my bag from work there was water coming from behind the plastic cover inside the trunk lid. I think I narrowed it down to the two tail lights that are installed in the trunk lid. The gasket on the passenger side looks deformed. Mine is a 2013 SE.

For a while now I have been getting water in the trunk of my old 2001 Prius. Its dripping from the left side (driver's side) cutout in the upper part of the trunk.
I tried resealing the rear window and I am confident there is no openings there. The only thing I can determine is that I need to replace the trunk gasket. Having a hard time finding a replacement seal for that model, 2001 Prius?

I have a 2001 B5.5 passat saloon and I'm getting water in the trunk, damp carpet and water in the spare wheel well. It seems to be mainly on the left side (as you look into the trunk) I've checked the rear light seals and can't find any evidence of a leak, where else should I look?

Over the last couple of months, my '98 Passat 1.8T Sedan has started to show an annoying habit, in addition to the multiple other ones of which I will never solve.
After it has rained and things have dried up pretty well everywhere, if I open up the trunk, a stream of water always drips down from the latch. It gets pretty annoying when I have things in the trunk. I have looked everywhere on the trunk lid hoping to find a location of ingress - nothing. I made sure the channels on the side of the trunk are clear of debris too.The water does not seem to be collecting in the receptacle (on the bumper) for the latch either. It is somehow collecting in the lid. I once had a cracked license plate light holder cover, so I replaced that thinking the problem would be solved. No luck.
The only other thing I have noticed is that over the last week twice after trying to open the trunk with the handle, the handle would not release properly ( it would move up and get stuck and the trunk would not open). When I wiggled the handle, it would pop back down and then I could open it properly. The two things are probably not related.
How to solve the water drip from the latch, or at least, where the water is coming from?

=I have a Passat TSI 2.0 08 (48.000 Km) and since the begining of the raining season I have noticed that the basis of the lining of the lateral is soaked after rain. In order to investigate it bertter, I have removed the lining and did some tests with water. I came across a problem with the gasket and that hose that drains the water. It looks like the gasket is a little bit loose to press the hose in such a way it insulates its base avoiding water leaking into the trunk. Thus the water rolls outside the hose down to the trunk sides.

Within one week of ownership of my new 2013 Passat, I noticed the driver's side of trunk rubbing and had techs "align" the trunk at 30 days. Before the recent 10,000 mi service, I did a walk around to see if there was anything I should have serviced and noticed the passenger side hinge was rubbing on the wheatherstrip and tore through. So, I took it in under warranty. I called after 10 days of no car; the techs apparently "realigned' the trunk and were awaiting a replacement weatherstrip. I love my B7s (yes, we have two!) but there's been obvious assembly issues (our 2012 had paint drip issues on the mirror so had that corrected without a problem whatsoever).
So, I finally got my car back from the dealership after 42 days! The service advisor told me he was fighting with VW to get the bumper replaced because there "is something wrong with it". That issue is still open, unresolved. As for the trunk hinge/wheatherstrip issue, the fix provided minimal clearance. I compared the clearance to two other Passats (one was a 2013 S that was my loaner for 42 days and the other was a new SE on the floor). Both had ample clearance. The body on mine isn't right - the trunk cavity opening is not wide enough by a mm or so. I know my lemon law rights and will be pursuing a case. At a minimum, my car was in service for a long time and that has devalued my car for resale purposes.

I have a 2004 Passat GLX. the passenger's side trunk hinge is broken and will likely need to be replaced. looks like part of it rusted out and broke clean off. Also -- is it possible to just change the hinge without changing the strut?

I can open all the doors if I press the unlock button on the driver's side. However, suddenly, the remote (both remotes) will unlock only the driver's door & the trunk, but not the passenger & rear doors.
Locking the door manually with the key did nothing. We just replaced the car's battery (it's been 5 years), but that didn't solve the problem with the keyless entry remote. One of the remotes is rarely used (1x/week), so I'd be astonished if both keyless entry remotes needed batteries at the same second.

Every time I open then close either of the driver side doors (haven't tried passenger yet), I hear a thumping noise coming from the trunk.
When I opened the trunk to see what it was, the noise stopped. Only with trunk closed does this happen.
Could it be air pressure causing the trunk lid to move? I didn't think the car was that air tight.

When I open my door or the driver's side passenger door, there is a thwump or suction- like noise that sounds as if it is coming from the trunk.
I had a repair done a few weeks back and had a loaner 2014 TDI SE, and it had the exact same sound.

After it rains, the passenger side of my car fills up with water. I assume the drain wholes are clogged. Where they're located?
It is a 2007 2.0T FWD if that matters.....

My only car is a 2002 passat 1.8 .
I've had a water leak in the passenger side floor. This started when my sound system was installed. So I've been dealing with it. Vacuuming out the water and driving. Recently A LOT of water leaked in. Now the car won't start and the doors won't lock. I read about this issue before. What to do. The dealer wants to charge me $210 just to look at it and hook it to a machine. Then if the issue runs me more than a few hundred. That's just over budget. I need to fix this issue.

Is there a known issue with water getting into the passenger side(floor) of the Passat sedans? Is the leak due to the sunroof?

Sunroof drains? I just had a new windshield installed a few weeks ago. But I have not had a problem until today. Everything was fine until I tilted the sunroof and when hitting the brakes coming to stops. Water would run in thru/by the visor hinge.

99 passat, 1.8T wagon. We had so much rain recently, as a result driver's side carpet in my passat is wet. It' is mostly in the front but there are some wet areas on the back too. Nothing on passenger side. Where to look for first, any common problems with water leaks on this car?

When it rains I get puddles inside on the passenger side. I haven't seen where it enters but it doesn't appear to be from the moon roof, or the windows (doors seem dry) so I assume it's from one of the doors but the weatherstripping looks to be intact. It looks like there's a rubber outlet in the hinge area of the front door - could it be from there?

I have a 2004 Passat GLS and I've noticed from time to time (and again tonight) that there's water on the floor on the passenger side in the back row. There is a vent under that floor mat so I suspect it has something to do with it, but beyond that I'm stumped. I've only noticed standing water once, and that was after a heavy downpour. But tonight the mat is pretty wet and we haven't had rain for a while. I just dropped a ton of dough on new coils and plugs so I'm hoping this isn't anything serious.
