Yesterday, after having driven the car twice, I got in it to move it, and it would not start. It almost turns over, but never reaches a start, until the dash prompts me to to STOP. I also notice a stong gasoline smell when I get out of the car. What this might be?

View 2 RepliesOur 1994 Suburu Legacy runs on Petrol or LPG. For some unknown reason, there is a strong petrol smell in the car. When this happens, the car will eventually stop and the engine stops. There is power, but the engine will not start. Several minutes and many attempts later later, it starts. What may be happening?
View 2 RepliesAfter the upgrade to APR Stage 1, there is a strong Gas smell in the car. The APR dealer indicates that this is normal (expected) due to the additional boost.
Is this correct. DO all of you who have the APR upgrade have a gas smell in the car? The car has a stock exhaust.
There is no noise that would indicate a hole in the muffler, just the exhaust smell. I'm wondering if the catalytic converter is going out? If it is the catalytic converter, will it strand me on the highway eventually?
View 2 RepliesHaving a strong odor/smell in there car after service at the dealer? I have a strong smell as if someone sprayed an aerosol can in the car or a marker was left without the lid on it. It has been 2 days since the service and the smell is still there. I called the dealer and they said they would take a look at it, but they didn't know what it would be. I though it might be the adblue since they did refill it, but I don't think that stuff has this strong of a smell and the filler is in the trunk area.
View 15 RepliesI have a 2011 GTI (stock - no mods) and noticed in the past two weeks or so a gas smell. The past few days it will be strong at start up after sitting for a few hours. I brought it to the dealer and they did not find any issues. After long drives, the odor is not present.

CEL is on for po456 (very small evap leak) and every time I fill up on fuel, I can smell a STRONG fuel odor, from near the fuel neck, and inside the car. Stops after it hits around 3/4 area. No leaks, and the car runs fine. Gas cap, and N80 valve were just replaced, both parts are from the dealer. I'm going to bring it in for a smoke test soon. All recall notices have been done too, I just did the timing belt.
I have a ’90 Toyota 4Runner with a 22RE fuel injected engine having 176000 miles. Cold start is fine and idles normally. However, after it has warmed up (hot soak) it will still start right up but will run rough and die unless I give it gas to 2000 RPM and hold it there for 5 seconds or so. Then it will return and hold normal idle. There is also a strong smell of gas. Basically it floods. I have replaced the distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and distributor itself then ran two cans for fuel injector cleaner through it. I also disconnected the Cold Start Injector Timer Switch thinking that was the problem. Nothing had an effect. Compression is a little low in all cylinders (expected with this mileage) but nothing drastic. One last thing I don’t know if it deserves mentioning. The muffler has something broken inside because it rattles loudly. I have not gotten to that yet.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette which has been a great car, but due to its age has had some issues in the past year. The most recent is that it does not start well. When I turn the key, it chugs but I have to push the gas to get it to start and then there is a very strong fuel smell. We had it "tuned up" recently, but that did not work ( in fact the starting has gotten worse).

A few weeks back I noticed that when I climbed into my truck after command-start warm up for 10 minutes, and I could smell strong exhaust.
I figured it was hopefully the wind, or an isolated event.
Over the past few weeks I've used my truck for 3-4 more around town runs and every time I warm it up I get the strong exhaust smell. It's that rich, eye watering, sickening exhaust smell. I also notice a small yellow frozen puddle under the exhaust tips that wasn't there before.
It's bad in the cab, but even walking around outside the truck and the smell is sickening. I actually just started the truck and I could actually smell the exhaust smell faintly, from inside my house! This has never before occurred. Prior to this, a person could hardly tell it was a diesel by the smell of the exhaust.
Once the truck is up to temperature the smell seems to disappear, or at least lessen.
I have a 2007 Santa Fe GLS with about 68k. Starter her up this am and smelled a very strong odor of gasoline in the cabin. I check my garage floor and didn't see any leaks. Drove it for a few minutes and the smell went away. What might be causing this?

View 1 RepliesI just recently picked up a 2000 Jetta VR6. its 173k miles on it and has few issues with it.
The Background. The car had a check engine light on and when i bought it I was told it was just an o2 sensor and i trusted him cuz i knew the guy (sorta). Bad move on my part, but not terrible. After I bought the car, i took it to autozone to just get the codes and be sure. It came up with a P1116 - o2 sensor heater circuit open on bank 1 (expected), and I also got a P0302 - misfire cylinder 2 (dafuq?). The misfire surprised me cuz it did not feel like it was misfiring whatsoever and it did not have flashing CEL.
After driving the car for a few days, I have noticed a few things that make me believe that it is either a faulty injector or seal.
1. The misfire, but not significant misfire. The only time I can tell any difference on how the car performs is when its at idle, it tends to not idle completely steady and vibrates a little more than what an engine should. Other than that, the car pulls great and not any issues.
2. The smell of gasoline is prevalent. It takes about 30 seconds before it just plain out reeks. And if you pop the hood and stick your nose right next to cylinder 2, you probably get high off the fumes (if that's possible). I am sure its coming from somewhere under the plenum because it was leaking some type of liquid that I had initially thought was just oil but I really think its gasoline.
I have a 1999 chevy lumina 3.1 with only 317,000 mi. and running strong. I had put new plugs,and wires about 6 weeks ago. The other day it started misfiring and I could smell the gasoline. I checked the tail pipe and it showed black smoke. In addition I put a piece of paper on the tail pipe and I could feel the misfiring with a consistent rhythm. I notice that it is running flooded(like if a fuel injector is not working correctly.) I cleaned the throttle body, checked all the coils and the spark plugs and they are good. It does not show any check engine light on. What could it be?

View 2 RepliesBeen smelling gas in a 02 vovlo s80. At first, I thought I had tracked it in with from the pump with my shoes. But after washing things up, a week has gone by and the smell persists. I am concerned there may be a leak somewhere. Not sure here. What do you think it could be?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt... I can smell gasoline ONLY when I turn the heater or a/c on. I have taken the car to TWO different auto shops and no one knows WHAT is causing this. The check engine light came on recently after a radiator flush and the first auto shop said it was a thermostat switch and bring it back the next day. I was leery of this and went to the second auto shop who told me they never heard of a thermostat switch and to bring it back whenever the check engine light comes on again. Meantime, I will not turn on the heat or air because the gas smell gives me a headache. What this could be?
