When car is on , I am hearing a subtle knocking/popping sound I thought was from climate control but not so as even when it's off i hear it. It sounds like a popp noise from maybe passenger side. What component might be doing this?

I recently installed solowerks s1 coilovers and now I get this knocking sound coming from both front wheels. This only happens while turning at low speed and stops once I get past 30mph. Also there sounds like a rattle or clanking when going over bumps in a straight line. These 2 sounds are completely different. From what I've researched, I think the problem is broken top strut mounts. I wanted some second opinions on it before I buy the strut mounts and get in there.

Halfway into a 2 hour trip away from home my climatronic died. The display is blank and no air is moving through any of the vents. This was a big problem since I encountered a heavy rainstorm and my only means of clearing the windshield was my handkerchief. I checked the fuse and it seems fine. There was clicking in the dash prior to this happening. I looked at the relay and it seems fine but I wouldn't know what a "bad" relay looks like.

View 9 RepliesI recognize the odds of isolating this is low, but thought I'd try. I have been hearing a a very subtle (but noticeable) noise coming from within the dash area of my 2002 Passat (mostly near the glove box side, but also in the middle area). Noise occurs when the ignition is turned on - with or with out the engine running. It can be heard while driving, but is more noticeable when I turn the HVAC fan to off. The sound is random, and seems to be like a relay dithering, an intermittent buzzer or a fan noise (although no fan is on.) It sort of sounds like a cell phone vibrating randomly in the glove box.
View 2 RepliesI have an '04 Suzuki Aerio, and there is a loud popping or knocking sound coming from the front of the car when I drive it. I don't seem to hear it when the car is inert (i.e. idling or traveling in a straight at a constant speed). I hear it intermittently when I accelerate/decelerate or turn. I hear it in drive and reverse. The strange thing is that it seems to go away completely when it is raining, and then come back when it stops raining and things dry out. It has been happening for a month or two. I think it has been gradually getting a bit louder. What could cause this?
View 6 RepliesI have a god awful creaking and popping sound from within my dash. It is directly related to my steering wheel. I can recreate it by pushing down on the wheel but I cannot track it down. I have the dash apart now.
View 3 RepliesRecently, when I start the engine (cold or even warm starts) I hear a subtle knocking noise that doesn't last too long but a few seconds. I figured that maybe it's because our area may still be using winter mix gasoline... but I'm not sure. Also, there's a rattle underneath the car when the engine switches into generating electricity with MG1.
This only happens after a start-up procedure (cold or warm). It stops when I push the gas pedal down a little bit (while still in park) then it goes into charging again, and by that time, it's stopped. I figured it may be a heat shield on the exhaust. It sounds more up in the front.
Also, when I start the car, the engine starts smoothly but then 1-2 seconds later goes into spinning MG1 which makes the car kinda sound like "vrrrrrrr---VRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr...." .
There is a knocking sound coming from the passenger side dash board in my 2010 Taurus. I found a youtube video that indicated in was a recirculation door motor. I replaced that but the knocking is still there.
View 8 RepliesI have a passat B5 2.3 VR5 with aircondition and I have been thinking about to build a climatronic system in the car I did have a climatronic in my old passat B5 V6 TDI and I was so happy about it, The refit part are not the hardest thing, but what about the wiring part? do people rebuild their own wiring system, or is there made a wire kit to the climatronic system.

View 5 RepliesI purchased an '07 Touareg within the last 30 days. Right after purchase, I began to hear a tapping/flapping sound from the front passenger side, seeming to be somewhere in the dash.
I currently have it at the dealership and have been getting mixed answers. First they thought it was something they could fix and today I was told that it was a "normal sound on a Touareg".
I noticed about a week ago (on a cool morning) that my Climatronic system would not blow heat. I played around with it briefly by adjusting the temp settings and how the blower was working.
If I set the temp to High heat would blow out for like a minute but anything else would just blow cold air.
If I set the temp to High and turn Econ on I would get hot Air.
No other settings would generate heat. I VAG Commed my car and there were not fault codes!!!
I took my car to my normal indie shop and they also were puzzled by this. They re-ran a vag com and nothing for them either. The heater core was flushed recently with the resting of my coolant system when my TB was done.
There is no sign of leakage for the heater core but I'm super puzzled to what the problem may be.
My climatronic/air conditioning just failed on me for no real reason that I can tell. It was working perfectly this morning.
Now, the system blows only warm air, and on the display where it *should* say the outside temperature, it displays "--0" and then the Celsius sign.
This is a 2002 GLX 4mo, if that makes a difference.
I have cut of the battery, and when I reconnected it and turned the ignition on the climatronic display was blinking for approx 10 seconds, and after that worked normally. What could happen to it?

I didn't notice it when I test drove it but now I'm hearing a knocking/thumping sound from the front end that goes to the speed of the wheels at slow speeds (10-30mph). I can also feel it pulse when I use the brakes at slow speeds. What this might be?
View 3 RepliesExperienced a loud "knocking" sound coming from the Passat's front end? It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it sounds like it's originating from the front axle area. I haven't pinpointed a pattern yet, but it seems to happen when there's additional weight being put on the front end--i.e. at the point of going down a hill to flat, or when initially going up a hill from flat. And no, I'm not bottoming out. Basically, the knock sound is so random/loud/alarming.
View 24 RepliesI took my car into the dealer to have them check out the loud knocking/pinging sound from the engine. First time, they told me that it was normal. It bugged the heck out of me so I took it in for the second time. Note: I was given a loaner to drive and it happened to be another 06 Passat 2.0T and this one sounded fine to me. The lead tech did kind of agree that it was a bit loud. So, they replaced a new fuel pump and did an oil change....?? But that of course didn't fix the issue. The noise is so loud that I can hear it inside the car w/ windows up when I'm sitting in traffic or at the light. Also at night, I can hear it when I'm standing about 15 or 20 yrds away from the front of the car.
I realize that the engines will have some sort of knocking sound (my 330i does that), but shouldn't be this loud. So, does this sound normal? BTW, the dealer told me that they contacted VW engineers and was told that it was perfectly normal. I don't really buy that!! I've only had this car for almost a month (took advantage of the CPO w/ 2.9% fin) and I don't want to have to deal with this if this seems to be an issue. I guess who does, huh?
I'm just starting to break in a new 2010 Passat and I hear some slight "knocking" noises at low RPMs during acceleration. It's only got 500 miles on it, so I am assuming it's just a characteristic of these engines; however, I've never owned a VW before so I don't know what is normal. this sound is typical for VW 2.0s? I think I have the PZEV version if that makes a difference.
View 1 RepliesA few days ago I was driving on the freeway for about 20 minutes and started hearing a subtle whining sound coming somewhere from outside the car. To quickly narrow it down to the engine, a wheel or the drive train, I pushed the clutch in, took it out of 5th and waited for the RPMs to drop. Then I hit some noisy rough asphalt and couldn't tell. Oh, well.
Here's the first big clue. When I shifted back into 5th, the gear shifter went into gear with no problem, but the clutch would not re-engage despite the pedal returning to its normal position.
Here's the second clue. Since I couldn't get the clutch to re-engage I decided to try one more data-gathering action. I turned the engine off (still coasting at 70 mph) and tried to restart. It would not restart, exactly as if I had not depressed the clutch pedal. So, I coasted for as long as I could and then walked the remaining 1.5 miles.
Here's the third clue. When I got back to my car about an hour later I tried to start it again. No joy, but then I heard a click underneath the car when I released the clutch pedal. I tried once again and it started. I drove the remaining 1.5 miles to the exit and started to notice the clutch appearing to stick for a second and then suddenly release. When I got to the gas station where I was before, it was done, just like on the freeway. Again, the gear shifter and the clutch pedal operated totally fine, but it seemed that the business end of the clutch would not re-engage until it cooled off. After it cools off, everything seems to work just fine.

What should I check?
I have a 2006 Passat 2.0T (UK Model), and I'm having trouble with both the outside temperature reading and the climatronic's cooling ability. When I bought the car the air-con was blowing cold and warm air without any problems, but the "cold" air is just a little too warm to be working correctly. I've had the system re-gassed but this didn't solve anything.
As I said, all the features of the air-con work perfectly, it's just the cold air just isn't cold enough - so it seems to me that the compressor is working fine. Also, the outside air temperature reading on the MFD reads about 5-10 degrees too warm. Would this have anything to do with the air-con issue?
