On my way to pick up my stranded wife and child, don't know all the details yet. Idles fine, no warning lights but front wheels lock up when she tried to drive it. I did the brakes 2 weeks ago, so I hope it's not due to that. She said tge car would drive then lock up the front right wheel. Then go, then skid, etc...
View 7 RepliesMy 08 passat seems to shutter or vibrate at higher and lower speeds. It comes from the wheels(front). At first I thought my wheels aren't balanced, but the VW dealership said everything is fine.???huh.. they roadtested it and nothing...but others that drive with me totally notice it..Major road noise because of it.
They also sold me winter tires and rims and they wore out after 25k same noise?... "Broken beads".... they said i hit a pot hole.. I don't think so.... So what do you think? Rotors? if so how much am i gonna get jacked ..
I have an 07 2.0t m/t w/ 19's. It rides great but the other day temps got down in low 30's high 20's which is cold for Myrtle Beach, SC. When going over speed bumps I could hear creaking which sounded like it was coming from the front wheels (didn't creak when back wheels went over bump) I figured maybe it was something to do with the cold. It did this for about two days and finally on third day when going over same speed bumps the noise was gone but it was still 30degrees. It resurfaced today and temps are in the 50's. Car has about 50,000 miles but it is a CPO vehicle warrantied for another 2years/24,000.

I have a floor jack and want to raise both rear or front wheels for a quick snow tire changeover but I have not been able to locate a good jack point.
A few weeks ago we notice a noise and grabbing from the front wheels. Noise was at lowers speeds only. Dealer did the following work.
Replace steering lock assembly and program
Replace left and right lower arm bushings
Replace outer cv boot, grease and repack
Extended warranty covered only steering wheel assembly and car rental.
They also said that the tires need it to be replace due to capping. Tires are only 9 months old. Replaced tire under warranty Potenzas G09 and di alignment that was way off. Two months ago was ok and drove less the 1,500 miles...
My 2000 VW Passat (V6) is acting up. My power window/locks on the front passenger side aren't working. All the other doors and windows are fine, but the dealership wants to charge a lovely $1000 for "window modules"...
View 16 RepliesI have a problem I have been struggling with for the last year.... Here are the main symptoms:
- Engine stutters and sometime stalls ONLY in 3rd and 4th gear
- 1st and 2nd gear has NEVER given us a problem
- The outside temperature has to be above 75 degrees. The truck ran great all winter, but last week with the first warm day, acted up again
- There has to be a sizable load (6 adults, full tank of gas)
- gets much worse going up hills (again load)
Not sure if it is related but one time in the winter, the truck stopped blowing heat. If I turned off the fan, the system would "build up" heat but then as soon as I turned it back on, the heat would stay for maybe 30 seconds and then fizzle out back to cold air. This happened only on the coldest day of the year. The heat has been decent the rest of the time.
Last year they replaced the crankshaft position sensor like 4 times, then claimed it was the ECM, replaced that and it still acted up. Then they finally said it was some corrosion in the wiring harness. However by the time they got through with it, it got cold enough outside where it didn't act up any more.
Owned care for just 1 year. Always seemed to "search" for 2nd gear, now "stammers" and "stutters" into 2nd and starting to do same into 3rd. Dealer says that care "needs to get to know me and how I drive." I say: it must know me by now, so assume it just doesn't like me? Have heard horror stories about being abandoned, etc. My question: do I continue to try to get dealer to fix? or just trade car.

The front right tire stutters-- like it's running over gravel-- after 2-30 minutes of high speed driving, when the car is hot and it's a hard turn like turning into a parking space. Over the last two years or so the transmission was replaced, along with clutch and both front CV joints. Brakes and rotors replaced, and two calipers bored out. Differential was replaced. two different mechanics could not replicate the problem mostly because it required the 30 minutes of driving. But it happens to me every day going to/from work.
View 7 RepliesMy Passat stutters on start-up and the engine light comes on.... took it to a vw dealer they ran tests and said nothing was wrong with the car, yesterday the engine light was off all day it was fine then some days like today it comes back on.... its a 2001 b5.5 1.8 T with 59,500 miles, manual tranny? I mean i get the oil changed every 3k miles, using synthetic oil, air/fuel/oil filters i always change every 3k miles with the oil change, i also got a tune-up at 45k miles and get the tranny flushed and new tranny oil every 15k miles, I dunno whats up with my passat...
View 12 RepliesMY 07 passat 2.0t stutters til it warms up. Took it in to vw and they replace the plugs and coils but it still does it. Engine light stays on says 2 cylinder misfires. Its stops after 5 mins but when it sits for awhile it starts again. it has 110,000 miles thought maybe it could be carbon buildup?
View 6 RepliesSo my wife's 2002 Passat, 1.8T, is acting weak on the interstate. Under passing conditions, it seems to lose power, and even stutters a little. Cruising and idle are both fine.
It has blinked the check engine light at me a few times when the stuttering happens, but when I check for codes, there are none stored. I replaced the plugs and coil packs about a year and a half ago.
99, 1.8T, 215K:: Drove 10 minutes fine, turned off, turned back on, stumbling to get an idle...stays steady at 900RPM (normal enough), but engine shutters, hard to accelerate (slow pickup), a bit louder... (limp-home mode)
I am thinking Air mass meter based off of old SAAB Turbo experience, and am going to get it plugged in to check codes.
Just started doing it last week some time and only happens when I am launching it from stop or grabbing gears hard.

Car squeaks and dies out like a stall and dash lights flash as well as lights on controll/radio area (around abs light) radio shuts off like a stall.
For the last 2 months I have been having an issue with my 2007 Passat when speeding up BUT only up hills. I have brought it to the dealer over a month ago when it was really bad on highways and it barely speed up to 60mph. So I went and got new 4 brand new tires with an alignment. Problem was still there but def. improved the, I guess I really needed new tires! But the hesitation still there, so I went again to VW and they didn't get no error or fail messages when they test drove it.
But I knew my car did not sound like that 3 months ago. So I brought it again and went with them for a test drive and the mechanic felt the hick up speeding up at 60-70 mph as well, you could even see it on the speedometer that it set back for a sec. when accelerating at 60mph but after 70 and 80mph it is riding smooth. VW mechanic only saw a high air intake when it happens and believed it was the engine speed sensor that was failing.
Yesterday I went to the VW dealer for the 5th time and they have it again all day, test drive it and now they say yes it is still doing it. Diag. laptop still shows no signs or fails. BTW, I don't have any start misfires like usually carbon build up cars get!! I did my research online but I see no other Passat's doing that kind of thing. I just don't want to continue driving it and one day my engine just cuts off...The car is balanced and just got aligned, and my steering wheel is not shaking while it happens either. I feel a little hick up from the floor/gas pedal.
I have 2008 VR6 4 motion wagon with about 98K miles. It has been relatively trouble free and I love the car. To try and make it last I am trying to stay on top of maintenance. I had a VW warranty until 72K and got several things fixed along the way. But, I had asked about the one weird thing it does well before it went out of warranty to no avail ("no trouble found").
The weird thing is that sometimes it sort of stutters when I slow down from a high rate of speed quickly, like exiting a freeway. I described it to my new mechanic (no longer beholden to the dealership mechanics) when I was speculating a new transmission might be in order at some point and he said it was probably an issue with the program that tells the transmission when to downshift and to ask about a software update. I did; none available.
Is it firmware related, how to get it fixed?
We have an 01 Sport Trac as a backup vehicle and it has the 3 position rotary switch on the dash for 4wd.
The transfer case engages and disengages but the front wheels seem to stay engaged with the front differential.
There are no manual hubs and I really don't think it should ALWAYS be engaged like that.
What is the probable issue and ALSO can manual hubs be installed on this truck?
Someone mentioned vacuum engagement? but I didn't see any vacuum hoses near the spindles. Didn't see any wires either other than ABS...
I really enjoy my 2009 Smart car, excellent gas mileage, fun to drive too. The only drawback is all the dust coming off the front disc brakes that makes my front wheels look filthy even when the rest of the car is clean. Are there other brake pads that work as good as the factory originals yet don't give off so much dust?
View 4 RepliesI got a 97 f150 single cab short bed. My 4x4 shifter is on the floor and moves. I put in 4x4 and the relay clicks and the light comes on. Same as 4low. Front driveshaft spins but front wheels don't. Could there be a leak in the auto locking hubs? Also I want to manual convert the auto hubs. It can be done but how?

I realized the power steering was low so I added more, now it leaks about half a bottle a day. I just wanted to know if its an expensive repair, how I can pinpoint the problem, and what the long-terms effects are if I leave the problem alone.
View 2 RepliesI have what feels like a rotational vibration (front to back) during mid to hard acceleration in 5th gear (60-65+mph) and its driving me crazy trying to figure this out. I can slightly feel it under hard acceleration in 3rd gear as well.
I have tried two different sets of wheels (both after market and stock) with no luck. I am starting to think it is in the motor and not the suspension... Or could it be the trans? What can I check/inspect to get how to tackle this?
Info on the car: 2003 Wagon 1.8T 5sp. 40k miles
