Passat (B5) :: Stereo Stopped Working After Car Jump Started
Apr 24, 2010
Why my stereo stopped working? I had to jump start my car, 2005 Passat TDI (B5) and now the stereo will not turn on. I checked the fuse on the drivers side, they were all good, say which fuse is for the stereo..

I have a 2009 f350 xlt with sync and steering wheel controls that the stereo quit working on and I want to replace and I am having trouble finding the correct one that will work with sync. One of the local auto wreckers has a 2010 f350 lariat with the touch screen that they are willing to let go for a reasonable price. Will that head unit work in my truck without major wiring?

So after the passat has tried to eat its own gearbox i've been having more troubles with the EGR but only on a long run so i've left it alone.
At 6:30 this morning i just got off the motorway and the motor stopped and started again quickly. After the lights it went dead and i rolled to a stop in the middle of the road. The car would not start so i pushed it to the side and started to try and get it going. The dash was reporting parking brake error and ESC error but it would not turn over at all. I tried loads of time and left it for 5 mins but nothing. Its been recovered to the garage again now.
I ran it through VCDS and got a bunch of errors, the common one coming up was 01314 - Engine control Module (004 - no signal/communication) and two other under parking brake ECM and 03182 - Clutch Position Sensor (G476) (010 open or short to Plus)
I've done some googling and been back to check the fuses (which there is no map for!) and found nothing.

The rubber (insulator?) around the antenna mast was seriously compromised, I noticed, when it was removed for a car wash (an infrequent occurrence). The radio worked occasionally after that.
Then I had a minor water leak through the vent system due to a blocked drainage lip on the particulate filter. The floor was soaked, causing the alarm to go off without warning (now dried and working correctly), but the radio stopped altogether if i remember correctly.
Then the wipers stopped working when it rained (they worked when dry). Replaced the wiper motor, and lo and behold, the radio works again sometimes - when it's dry out. obviously, i need to replace the antenna mast. Will this correct it?

My blinkers started off blinking a few times then stopped working, now they don't work at all. The fuse says it goes to the brake lamps, hazards and turn signals. The hazards work as well as the brake lamps. I found the relay/flasher box and it appears the relay and flasher is the same for both the turn signals and the hazards. I checked for the wire/connector problem in the column and all looks good there. When I activate the turn signal lever I feel one click in the relay/flasher which leads me to believe the turn signal switch is working. I went ahead and replaced the relay with no results. Is the flasher internals the same for both the hazards and the turn signals or is there two independent sections inside for each?

Sometimes when I start my car I wont get any sound out of my stereo; even the buzz is gone. The only solution is too turn it off and back on again. It happens every once in a while, a couple times a week. I think the car is not telling the amp to turn on. This is why the stereo is playing and there is no buzz.

This morning I'm heading to work and noticed that my local radio station was broadcasting WAAAAYYYYY too much bass. It sounded like I had turned up the bass all the way and turned everything else down. The volume level was reasonable, but the bass was rattling the doors and causing distortion as if the volume was all the way up.
I changed the station and it seemed better when I came back, so I just thought it was a glitch at the radio station. Then it started again. I tried all other means of playing music and they were all affected. Just to see what would happen, I shut off the engine at a light and started it back up. This seems to have corrected the problem. Now I'm nervous though. This is the sort of random malfunction that made me hesitant to buy German.
My car is a 2011 4dr GTI w/autobahn package.

I recently left my lights on on my 2001 Saturn S series. (I also recently had a car stereo installed, don't know if it's relevant). I jumpstarted the car and now I get an odd chiming at startup. When I arm the alarm the arming honk is as loud as the alarm itself. It used to be a more modest honk. Any thoughts on what might have happened during the jumpstart or how I can correct these issues?

After years of enjoying my Prius, driving it all around California and getting about 70k miles on it, it finally went haywire today when the car didn't start. Let me explain.
When I tried turning on the car, it didn't do anything and felt resistance from the brakes. I noticed that the interior lights were dimmer than usual, so I tried pressing the Power over and over again. Unfortunately, it didn't start.
Panicked, I frantically tried to get my manual out of my trunk, only to have the lights actually fully turn on. Puzzled, I turned on the car and, sure enough, it started. But I'm an idiot and turned it off and got stuck with the same problem again.

When I started the gx up today I couldn't get the volume to go up or down, not on the steering wheel. I turned the stereo off and on several times throughout my ride to work but it didn't change. Then when I got to work, turned off the vehicle and turned it back on, it worked. It's like it got glitchy and needed to be reset.

So I was on a road trip pretty far away from home on some winding roads in the mountains enjoying a new chip I put in my 1.8t and when I down shifted to 2nd, my car all of a sudden felt as if I went into neutral, needless to say, I wasn't, my clutch just stopped working. I can shift through all the gears, and nothing grabs, not even slightly, I don't hear any grinding or anything. It's just as if I'm in neutral. My clutch was pretty worn to start with, I've got 130,000 on an original clutch I just never had a clutch got out on me like that.

I was looking into the fuse box layouts and was trying to identify which one is for the 12v power outlets in the front area under the radio and the outlet in the arm rest. I believe its a 30 - 40 A fuse but need to identify exactly which one to replace since the outlets have stopped working.

I have a '97 Chrysler Cirrus that won't start on it's own without being jump started. Once jump started it runs fine, but then the next time you go to start it the battery is drained again. My highly uneducated guess is that I need to replace the alternator. Am I on the right track? I replaced the battery and the problem persisted.

We have had 5 instances over the past 2 months where we have had to have someone jump start the van for us. Two of the times the van was not running and the seat warmers were in use for 15 minutes with the key in ACC mode, when it came time to start the van it would not start, nothing would come on, battery completely dead. Another instance we were sitting waiting for pizzas to be done so we had a movie playing on the VES system, again with the key on ACC mode, the battery seemed completely dead again. The most recent instances the lights in the van came on but when trying to start it there was a clicking sound from under the hood, but the automatic headlights and interior lights all came on (battery not dead), so I hooked up the portable battery charger/jump starter and jumped it. It started right up, but the radio reset to the defauly of 12:00......
I had it to Auto Zone.and they tested the electrical system and found noting out of the ordinary... Could it be a bad started? Bad Cells in the battery?

My seat heater decided to stop working a few days ago when the temp. dropped down to -30deg Celcius. I checked the fuse today and all is well. I couldn't see any loose wires under the seat either. Both seat warmers stopped working at the same time.

So I get to explore my first repair with this new to me car. Yesterday morning, turn signals works fine. That afternoon, the stalk apparently stopped working, which I have heard of. Interestingly though:
-the brights and cruise work
-the hazards work (my improvised indication that I'm turning )
-the stalk had been replaced once before by the PO.
Did this thing eat another stalk, or are there some other things I should check first?
