Over the last few days, I've noticed that my steering wheel makes a rubbing / vibrating sound as I turn the wheel and press the brakes. This is happening as I'm pulling in or out of a parking spot, or when I slow down to take a wide turn.
View 4 RepliesOften when I am turning the steering wheel, even a little it now seems, I hear a whooshing/rubbing sound and feel just a little bit of that rubbing. It feels/sounds like it's coming from the housing right behind the wheel itself, maybe where the shaft bearing is. Is this normal?

View 14 RepliesFor the past month or so I have had something strange going on. When driving between 65 to 70 on the highway, I've turned my steering wheel slightly to the right and if there is a cross wind or head wind there is a vibrating sound. And it does get loud. I don't really feel it in the steering wheel. Only when there is a wind. I haven't done anything new to the truck since winter.

View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a low mileage 2002 SC 430. The steering will starts vibrating at about 65 MPH, and it lessens, or even quits vibrating at about 80. I am not sure if it is the tires needing balancing, or the current set of tires not being particularly good. I think the tire brand is Rotalla, or something very similar. I would like, when it is time to put a new set of tires on the car, to get some non run flat tires (I am not sure whether the current set are run flats or not), as I read on this forum that the ride is much better on non run flats. However, I do not have a spare in the trunk. Are the small, temporary spares easy to come by? Does Lexus sell them and how much? Is there any other alternative to consider as I do not particularly want to get a flat when driving in the country without a spare.
View 10 RepliesI just put 20" Status Game wheels on my 07 GX. I have had them balanced twice and between 55-65mph the steering wheel vibrates considerably. Is there a fix for this? New steering box valve, hub rings.
View 14 RepliesIs it only me having this annoying problem that above 100km/h the steering wheel starts vibrating - sometimes less, sometimes more. I had the vehicle taken to the Dealership several times where the guys first tried to balance and adjust the wheels and afterwords they changed all 4 tyres (KUMHO) + one rim but still the vibration (sometimes resembles mild shaking like driving on rough roads) is there. Don't know if this is normal or I am just too demanding but can't remember experiencing such thing with my previous cars like audi, citroen, etc...

A few things I noticed on the car, While driving I hear this clicking sound from somewhere behind the steering wheel. It sounds as if it's a relay
clicking on and off. The funny thing is it happens at odd times, sometimes very frequently, sometimes not as much. I tried with the A/C on and off and it seems to make no difference. Is it related to the electro-mechanical steering? Funny thing is, I remember hearing similar sounds from other Passats. I had test driven...
door and panel piece in the car is rattling, hopefully things will "settle in" a bit after a while. Are the screws that attach the trunk to the rails supposed to be body colored? This is an interesting touch.
So what is the deal with this whole steering wheel vibrating over 70mph? I have new balanced tires and the alignment has been done already. The steering wheel has a very annoying mild shake over 70mph on the highway. When I went back to the tire shop I saw the guy rebalance all 4 tires correctly. They told me to look into getting all alignment done. The car has 123,000 miles and had the 2 front struts replaced at 83,000 miles.
View 6 RepliesI have about 26k miles on a 2012 prius v 5. Recently I noticed that the vehicle produces vibrations. You can feel it in the steering wheel, but also notice it with head rests and visors vibrating. This can occur by going as slow as 25 or 30 mph. The other issue is that when going over pumps the shocks feel soft and the rear of the vehicle jumps one way or the other. I still have the factory tires with lots of wear remaining. I had this issue in a Jeep years ago and it was the faulty sway bars. My understanding is that Prius v's only have front sway bars.
View 3 RepliesI am feeling a vibrating in the steering wheel in my SUV, particularly at high speeds (the highway). I just had front brakes replaced a month or so ago. But the tires I have were new a year and a half ago, I think. Is the vibrating a tell tale sign that I need new tires? Or is it something else? Could I rotate them and get more miles out of them?
View 5 RepliesSlightly into my drive, my car begins to vibrate in what feels like the front end as well as in the steering wheel. At first it started when I was at high speeds on the highway but now it happens as lower speeds (like 40 mph). It does not happen at a specific speed only (so I don't believe it is a balance issue). Also, it doesn't happen all the time...sometimes it only lasts 5 minutes and sometimes it lasts longer. My tires are fairly new and recently checked for uneven wear, I've had an alignment and balance done so now I'm confused about the difference between issues with the following parts: struts, tire rods, rotors, or CV joints.
View 2 Replies I have a 1998 Lexus GS300 with 178,000 miles. I feel a shimmy in the steering wheel at about 60-65 MPH. I don't feel it at slower or faster speeds than the 60-65 MPH range. It also seems it's worse at the beginning of a drive and improves with time, but never really goes away. It has been going on for a few years.
I thought a when I bought new tires few months ago and had them balanced and aligned that the shimmy would go away. It did improve, but it didn't go away completely. My mechanic said to put 500 miles on the car to break in the tires then bring it back in to re-balance them. That didn't work.
He said that it could be the struts, but that they aren't leaking. I plan to keep this car for another 60,000 miles. Have the struts gone bad? Does it need to be replaced? Is it safe to drive if I don't replace them? Any consequences if I don't replace them? Is it worth it?
Getting a slight clicking sound/feel when turning the steering wheel when either stopped or moving very slowly. It's most noticeable when turning in and out of a parking space. Don't think it's subframe but may the strut bearing caps.

I'll get the sound too what could this be.

View 4 RepliesWhen I turn my AC to max. power (fan) the steering wheel and the entire dash board starts shaking and vibrating. Also one can hear a "deep" humming noise which seems to be coming form the fan/fans belt etc.
View 9 RepliesI bought 2006 Prius which clearly was involved in accident, though it was small collision in slow traffic but on my way home from seller it was clear this was something more serious when on motorway at 70mph steering wheel started vibrating when in straight direction, it disappeared on any little turn left or right. Ok, maybe just ball joint got loose.... but not, today I've lifted front and found little knocking sound in few positions when turning the wheels (L-R). Sound is coming from rack & pinion unit. Anyone removed, disassembled and successfully assembled it? My plan is to check with dealer what is the cost of replacement (quite expensive for gen I, expect it to be same for gen II) alternatively can get one from scrap yard but need to find the calibration procedure first. BTW did read codes as follow, it's clear after reset... so far.

View 10 RepliesI have an 08 camry v6 with 29500 miles, I've noticed 3 issues that are happening at this point.
1. When I hit 70 mph the steering wheel shakes, I had new tires installed at 25K and smooth braking. The shaking also goes away if I go above 85 mph.
2. I have two plastic Dashboard screws under the black cover that rests around the dash that keep falling out and I cant tighten them back in.
3. My drivers side mirror is vibrating when I start to drive at idle it's fine.
Other than that the car drives great..
