I'm still trying to get a feel for the car and I've noticed that I have to slam the hatch door in order to get the sensor to turn off. I'm hoping I can adjust the sensor or latch. Thought I'd post this while I'm free to do so. its not really a big deal. I'm just curious what others have to say about it since I'm new to Passat wagons.
View 5 RepliesAs the title states, I need to know where that damn switch/sensor that tells the car that the rear hatch is open. Since I got the car, the hatch has been wonky at best when trying to close that hatch via the button. I figured it was going to need a new switch, however I just noticed something today.
I opened the hatch and the rear dome light came on. Pressed the button and it closed no problem. I opened it again a few minutes later and the light never came on. Tried to close it with the button again and it didn't work. And then it all made sense. The sensor that tells the car that the hatch is open is either gummed up or just needs replacing. So where exactly is this thing?
I am having problems with the rear hatch door not unlocking easily, have to lock and unlock multiple times before it releases. I have stripped and lubricated it and it works fine for a day. Also having issues with petrol cover release not working as well.
View 1 RepliesThe rear door hatch on my 2002 Sante fe is not working. The Latch freezes in position to the handle and does not release or rebound back to the normal position, the door remains locked. I have taken the inner door cover apart,lubricated working controls and checked for any broken items.
View 14 RepliesWe are currently driving home, and our Chrysler Town & Country's rear hatch door won't unlock and open, by key or handle, so our suitcases are trapped in back. We don't know if there's an easy fix, but we won't get home until Sunday, when our mechanic is closed. We'd like to unpack!

I never open any door but the driver's door with the key. Several months ago, for some reason it occurred to me to try and see if they worked.
Nope, both the rear hatch and passenger's door lock would not open with the key. I assumed that the mechanism corroded up over lack of use over the years.
I thought, Well, crud. But, since I haven't used those door locks in over 12 years, I can probably get by.
I thought I had lost the spare car key when I was in Texas in December. To my surprise, I saw it on the key rack in the kitchen here in rural Mexico. I took it out to the car to check it out, and it opens all the doors.
I compared the keys, and one of the 'vanes' on the key I use all the time is a very tiny bit smaller than on the spare key. My guess is either that key never opened those two doors and I never noticed it. Or, it has worn over 12 years.
So, I guess when I get back to the States, I will have a copy made of the spare key. I am also going to post this on Sienna Chat for obvious reasons.
] have a 2001 Town & Country with 157,000 miles. The driver rear automatic sliding door will not work. You can hear the motor running but it doesn't totally close...so I open and close manually. I looked in Chrysler service manual...could this be a power latch assembly?? How hard would it be to replace myself. The rear hatch is the same way have to manually open/close...can hear motor and it goes through motions but doesn't open. ???? Then today the rear wiper wouldn't work....
View 3 RepliesI checked my rx350 battery health and it is good. Still I am having recurrent issues when battery dies. And needs a restart. It happened many times and last one just happened this morning and I have feeling that this is related to rear hatch door...let me explain what happened:
Yesterday evening I went for grocery shopping and opened the rear hatch door using my car key remote, kept the groceries and closed the rear hatch using the button on the bottom of rear hatch door. I drove back to home and parked the vehicle in the garage. This morning I opened the rear hatch again and closed it, drove it to a house one block away, returned home and parked the car.
When I tried to start 1 hour later, the battery had already died. So, I have a feeling that opening and closing the rear hatch door 3 times caused this battery drain.
On occasion I have to haul something (bicycle) that wont let me close hatch. Can I turn off buzzer. I have an hour transport coming up.

View 5 RepliesHaving problem with the rear hatch on their 2007 2.0T Wagon rear hatch opening by itself? I have had it happen twice now, once in the garage and this am I woke up and it was open in the driveway.
I also seem to be having an issue with the passenger window when I close it, it sometimes gets to the top and then starts to go down again.
Since I bought the Ex last December the rear lock worked sometimes. The key cylinder wouldn't turn, but the actuator would work from time to time.
So since it is hunting season and I want to lock up the Ex when I am in the field I dug into it tonight.
I want to know how do I remove the actuator from the handle/lock mechanism. It looks like it just snaps on. I pulled the actuator back a touch and the arm feel off that drives the lock mechanism.
So after pulling the handle and trim piece, removing the lock cylinder and hosing it in PB blaster and brake kleen and more PB blaster I now have a lock cylinder that turns freely.
After turning my attention the lock mechanism and flooding it with PB blaster, I now can lock the Ex. That mechanism is not a smooth item! So do I need to remove the complete lock mechanism assembly to remove the actuator? Can I buy an actuator with a metal arm?
I've bought a low mileage (70k) 1998 Olds 88 from my mother. Lately it's begun going dead when the key is turned; Trip meter zeros out, clock resets, no starting. You open and slam the door a few times, and suddenly it starts like normal. Obviously electrical, obviously intermittent. Where I should look?
View 2 RepliesRear hatch on our 2009 wagon is supposed to be adjustable as far as opening height. Regardless of where I set it, it continues to creep up to fully opened. This is not what my wife would like and when I have the Thule cargo box up top I would like to limit the opening maximum for the hatch.
View 2 RepliesHow can I manually open the rear hatch in my 2004 passat w8 wagon? When I got the car it would not open with the remote, but it would unlock with the key. Wife went to the store and the hatch wouldn't unlock. Key just turns. Feels like it is not quite catching to open up the lock.
This has now caused the doors to not lock and windows to not roll down, and no interior lights. Keeps blowing fuse 14. So how do I get I the lock mechanism on the hatch to get it open? Bentley is on the way, but can't be here soon enough.
The two cylinders that hold the hatch in an up position have failed. Curiously, it happened overnight. One day they were working, the next they were not.
Is replacing them a DIY job? You can assume i have tools and a modicum of mechanical savvy, though I am decidedly not a mechanic. Anything special or unusually complex about the task?
What is the part number for the rear hatch strut for the new passat wagons? i need the part # for the ones that has the remote hatch closing. I want to put those struts on my mk5....
View 7 RepliesMy new 2008 2.0T Passat wagon, Lux version has a 20" L x 5" W x 1.5" D space on the inside of the rear hatch behind the license plate with two knobs that you turn to open it. The covering door is hinged and it looks like it might be a space to put something because there are four plastic clips that might be there to retain something. Cannot find any reference to it in the owners manual.
View 4 RepliesI'm seriously getting fed up with this car. From the day we took delivery of it in July 2006 it had the dreaded b-pillar rattle that took OVER a year for the dealer to diagnose and fix. The final repair took over a week and we were graced with a horribly crappy rental car. The passenger rear door felt like it belonged on a 35-year old ford F-150 and it required a day at the dealer and lube and adjustments.
Then We've had random CELs and rattles and recently had to go in for a new A/C Compressor. That took 2 days of us without the car. That was AFTER it was in a week previous for a CEL that required a part inside the intake runner. That took ANOTHER 2 days to diagnose/repair. Now the rear hatch doesn't close? I've never needed this many repairs on a car that doesn't even have 35K miles on it.
Just tonight my wife said the parking brake didn't engage and a warning light for THAT just came on. Previously I had planned to trade in the GTI for a better family car, but its turning out that maybe the car we need to replace is in fact this one... Its saving grace are a fantastic engine and utility that is second to none. If only it worked!
We have a 07 wagon, and the rear hatch intermittently works at this time. When it doesn't operate correctly does it throw a code to the computer at all that is stored, or is it the old "it better not work when it goes to the shop" kind of thing?
View 2 RepliesNormally my head light turn off automatically when I turn off the engine and open the driver's door. Now, it works randomly which caused my battery to be drained.
I feel that the sensor on the door does not trigger to tell the car to turn off the lights.
