I have a 05 B5.5 GLS wagon.
I have a floor jack and want to raise both rear or front wheels for a quick snow tire changeover but I have not been able to locate a good jack point.
So today I was doing the 40K mile service on my 2013 Gen3. When I finished I noticed that the front jack point was kind of crushed looking. I don't think I did it this time, but I have no doubt that I'm the one that did it. The question I have is, why is that the recommended jacking point if it crushes like a beer can. I've always used a quality floor jack, so I don't understand. I'm attaching a pic. If there a better place to jack it up from?
View 2 RepliesJust wondering... should there be any plastic pieces inside the wheel wells directly in front of the rear wheels? There is empty space on mine where it looks like leaves and whatnot could collect. I can get a picture if needed. I expected there to be a plastic cover of some sort. Then again, maybe it is on purpose so if stuff collects in there you will see it and clean it out.
View 8 RepliesLast week, I noticed that my rear wheels were splayed out. That is, the bottoms of the wheels were further from the center of the car than the tops of the wheels. I drove to the dealership (abut 2 miles from where I was when I noticed the issue) and discovered that the tires had worn through the steel cords on the inside edges.
They did an alignment and put on two new tires and I was on my way (3 1/2 hours later). They could not tell me what had gone so terribly wrong to cause this, but they also told me that they could not get the passenger side rear wheel aligned because of the cam bolt. Apparently it is quite worn. They said it was a 4-5 hour job replacing this bolt. Does this seem reasonable?
Since this episode, I have noticed that my car is really jumpy when I am turning left. Mostly on long turns like ramps and curves in the road. By "jumpy" I mean that the car seems to jerk around side to side during the turn. I worry about losing control.
I can't tell if the problem is caused by the front or rear wheels, but I don't feel anything strange in the steering wheel. In my mind, I feel that it is the rear wheels, but that may just be because of the recent work I had done. What might be causing this?
Pulling into work today and backing into my parking spot, a fellow employee noticed something odd about my front wheels, so he hopped in my car so I could see the issue.
From a dead stop accelerating forward, the front wheels shift a few inches to the rear, and same thing when backing up from a dead stop they shift to the front. Both sides are doing this evenly. I haven't thrown it on the lift yet but I was thinking a possibly bad dogbone mount. The car has 133K on it and the bone has never been touched.
I have a set of 19s on my car et 42 wit 235/35/19 tyres and dropped on coilovers. I read that having et 35 would rub so i got et 42 thinking it would clear the arch but the the tyres rub on the arch liner when people are sitting in the back.

I did the brakes 2 weeks ago, so I hope it's not due to that. She said tge car would drive then lock up the front right wheel. Then go, then skid, etc...
View 7 RepliesMy 08 passat seems to shutter or vibrate at higher and lower speeds. It comes from the wheels(front). At first I thought my wheels aren't balanced, but the VW dealership said everything is fine.???huh.. they roadtested it and nothing...but others that drive with me totally notice it..Major road noise because of it.
They also sold me winter tires and rims and they wore out after 25k same noise?... "Broken beads".... they said i hit a pot hole.. I don't think so.... So what do you think? Rotors? if so how much am i gonna get jacked ..
I have an 07 2.0t m/t w/ 19's. It rides great but the other day temps got down in low 30's high 20's which is cold for Myrtle Beach, SC. When going over speed bumps I could hear creaking which sounded like it was coming from the front wheels (didn't creak when back wheels went over bump) I figured maybe it was something to do with the cold. It did this for about two days and finally on third day when going over same speed bumps the noise was gone but it was still 30degrees. It resurfaced today and temps are in the 50's. Car has about 50,000 miles but it is a CPO vehicle warrantied for another 2years/24,000.
View 6 RepliesA few weeks ago we notice a noise and grabbing from the front wheels. Noise was at lowers speeds only. Dealer did the following work.
Replace steering lock assembly and program
Replace left and right lower arm bushings
Replace outer cv boot, grease and repack
Extended warranty covered only steering wheel assembly and car rental.
They also said that the tires need it to be replace due to capping. Tires are only 9 months old. Replaced tire under warranty Potenzas G09 and di alignment that was way off. Two months ago was ok and drove less the 1,500 miles...
I've only had the Ex for a few months so I'm still learning... After a trip to Orlando this weekend, I noticed a very faint odor of differential fluid from the driver's side front and rear wheels.
Nothing on the passenger's side. I've inspected the pinions and axles and found no wet areas at all, so I'm a little perplexed. The wheels and axle housings were pretty cool considering a 5 hour round trip.
I was also wondering if what I am smelling is due to the axle vent hoses?
Doing some suspension work this weekend. Wondering where the best place for jacking up my truck (99 f250 SD 4wd). I need to take the U bolts off so I can't put the jack there. I've got a 2 ton, 3 ton, and 25 ton jack. Only one stand. I need the whole rear end jacked up at the same time. Same for the front. I've heard your not supposed to place the jack on the pumpkin. Is it OK to just jack it up by the axle and put the stand as close to the outside as possible?
View 14 RepliesMy 05 Caravan is in excellent shape with only 40k miles and noticed rust and paint bubbles only on the lower front side of the rear wheel well (drivers side). I live in Pa and wash the car after snow storms. Of course the car is out of rust warranty and the dealer said they can repair it but they do not know what causes it. I have seen this exact problem on other caravans and I have been told it is were the two pieces of metal are joined together, the wheel well seam, which causes the problem. We sealed the seam last fall with silicon when it was just paint bubbles and now it has gotten worse. My thinking is either we need to go back and look at the seam again as we only sealed the section that looked open or there is a leak from somewhere else in the van - the gas cap area or the area on the frame when the door is open is suspect to me. Basically I am asking if there is anywhere else I should look for this leak besides the wheel well seam?

I have a 2008 Passat Lux with an ipod dock in my glove compartment which I would like to turn into an aux input if possible. There is no AUX input under my hand-rest so the ipod connector in my glove compartment seems to be the only way for me to listen to my music from my phone in the car. I have found several cables that convert IPod to 3.5mm jack (and hopeful vice-versa?) Will this work somehow or am I stuck with the ipod connector without any aux input?

Yesterday I was parked on an incline with my front wheels on gravel and the rear wheels on wet grass/mud. When I tried to go, the rear wheels started spinning. I then switched on the low 4x4, and tried to go. The rear wheels continued to spin, but the front did not turn. I had new wheels installed, that has a cap that covers the manual locking hub, so I couldn't turn it to lock the hub. What should I look for to fix the problem?
2007 F250 4X4 Larriat SRW
Just got done rotating my tires on my 16 F250 ccsb 4x4 and I used jack stands on my rear axle while I used the jack on the front axle. When I brought the truck down off the jack stands (first time using jack stands on this truck) I saw that they left little marks/divits on the rear axle. I had them between the wheel and the shock support and I can feel with my finger where the jack stand was supporting the truck. It doesn't seem anything major but I can surely point out to you exactly where the axle and the jack stand met. I'm sure this is a non issue but just wanted to check in here to make sure...
No trailer attached (of course!) And nothing in the bed with a full tank of gas...so basically just the weight of the truck...
When installing front lift shackles, do you place jack stands under the axle, or the frame? I can't really find an answer. I assumed the axle, but i saw a thread and from what i could see it looked like it was supported at the frame and the axle was hanging free in the air. Just want to be sure before i start unbolting the stock shackles tomorrow and kill myself.

The dealer tells me he hears this problem all day long and there is nothing he can do about it.
So I looked under my car to see how much clearance I have as I am going lower it with VWR springs and noticed that my CTS catback hangs downs at one point by the left rear control arm a lot. Like really bad. I've already spoke to someone who is bogged and had to have an exhaust shop fabricate a new piece as he scraped that piece a lot.
Had I known I wouldn't buy this carp. Talk about cutting corners. It literally hangs down a foot under the car.
