Passat (B5) :: Lubrication For Trunk / Hood Lid Piston Mechanism

Oct 11, 2006

What I can lubricate the trunk and hood piston mechanism that keeps them open. Silicone spray, lithium grease, oil, graphite?? Don't want to harm an inside seal if it is possible.

Passat (B5) :: Piston Damage After Broken Timing Belt

I recently broke a timing belt on my 1999 AEB 1.8t Passat. I'm in the process of doing all of the repairs myself while working around my college and work schedule. I have yet to pull the head off, and I'm scared of what I'll find when I do. Should I expect any piston damage? I have one completely broken valve and a bunch of bent valves.

Passat (B6) :: Hood Won't Open

Not a great first week of ownership. Tried to open my hood tonite and find there is no tension whatsoever on the hood release lever. On my Corrado, I can pop it over w/ a screwdiver thru the grille, can this be done on a B6? It even looks like there is a cut out between the grille & hood to get at the release, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.

Passat (B6) :: Way To Adjust The Hood?

Today I received my passat from the dealer's body shop after a rear end accident. Rear lid, bumper, reinforcement, lights, parking sensors, fuse and front seat belts replaced. So I suppose that no one touched the front end except for the towing bar cover. But I drove the car and found that the hood is shaking at high speed (200+ kmph) which is odd to me since the car was rock solid.

I opened the hood and felt that the release handle was loose ( can't feel the mechanism any more). Visually the right side of the hood is higher than the fender. Also pushing on the hood seems that it doesn't set on the rubber adjusters (there are 4 adjusters)

After making few adjustments (only the outer adjusters ) the hood is even higher than before although it is tight and the release handle felt good.

How can I lower the hood while keeping it tight?

Camry :: Wiper Mechanism Malfunction

I put a new wiper mechanism in my 02 Camry, and I think I left something out.

The wiper motor is in there swishing away and the wiper blades aren't moving. I removed the mechanism and found that the small arm that makes it all rotate keeps loosening. It's a nut which I'm sure needs a spacer or something to keep it from unscrewing itself.

Passat (B6) :: Trunk Lid Not Closing

All of a sudden (2 wks ago), the trunk lid decides when it's going to close. I open it with the key or VW sign and then it won't close. It just pops back open, I thought something was stuck, checked out the trunk-there was nothing there. It took about 5 minutes and numerous trys then it finally stayed closed.

Used the trunk again, no problems. Then last night it did it again, it took about 10 mins. to get it closed. This time I had to sit on the trunk lid to close it, but the alarm wouldn't engage. I was scared it was going to pop open when I driving so I opened it again sat on it for a few minutes, then the trunk lid stayed closed and the alarm finally engaged.

Passat (B6) :: Trunk Opens By Its Own

My trunk opens by itself. Sometimes when I hit the door open key on the remote (I've tried the spare and it's the same). Sometimes seconds after opening doors. I've gone out to find my trunk wide open in the morning...twice in the past week! The latch works just fine. Seems to be a problem with electronics.

Passat (B6) :: Trunk Lid Not Rising On Its Own

When I open the trunk, the trunk lid doesn't seem to lift more than about an inch without me having to get involved. While it has been cold here, 40's and 50's, I don't believe that should have a tremendous effect on it. Should it be lifting all the way under these conditions? If so, what needs to be replaced?

I ask because there was a slow-speed chase on the freeways 'round LA with a guy driving a Bentley Flying Spur. When he finally stopped, 3+ hours later, he popped the trunk lid and it rose to attention like I thought my trunk lid should. An hour and a half later, it wasn't pretty for the car or driver.

I've noticed that when it's cold out when i open the trunk it won't close... you can slam it, be nice, hold it down, nothing... I have no issues when it's not cold out say 45+ F. Anything lower than that forget it....

Passat (B6) :: Trunk Will Not Open By Itself

So my Passat 2.0T 4dr trunk will not open up on it's own.

When I press the trunk release button inside the car or on my key fob, the trunk latch releases but it will not fling up on its own.

How would I fix this? Do I spray WD40 on the latch bar??

I have bumper to bumper warranty on the car....Do I just take it to the dealers or is this something I can fix? Will the stealership try to charge me for this work?

Passat (B5) :: 2004 - Hood Won't Release

My problem is that I get a pretty good pop from the main release inside the car. The hood doesn't come up too much, and the secondary release tab does not pop out from under the hood. I've managed to get the grille off. The tab will move back and forth a little, but then stops. Even yanking on it will not cause it to release the hood the rest of the way.

A couple of the fixes out there are spraying some lube in there (done) and popping the latch with a screwdriver (can't see how to do this on my car). There is even one for drilling a hole to get access, but I think this might be a B5 thing?
