View 4 RepliesI have a 1997 Ford Econoline conversion campervan that I don't use very often. I need to open the hood to jump start the battery. Last time I opened the hood I did not notice anything wrong with the hood or the hood release latch inside the cab. Now when I pulled the hood release latch inside the cab, nothing happens to the hood at all (the hood does not open at all).
Is there a way I can open the hood or do I need to tow it to my mechanic?
I drive a mk4 GTI 2004 Stage 1 software. Just got home from being at sea for the last three months and my hood latch won't open. It pops exposing the tab, but the safety lock won't release the hood. I tried putting my hand in and pulling the the mech that the latch attaches too but it wont budge. I then tried removing the grille to have a better view and more access, but it doesn't look like its possible to remove the grille without popping the hood. Anyway, how to tackle it, maybe if there's a way to remove the grille without breaking it or getting from under it.
View 2 RepliesWent to pull on the hood latch lever and nothing happened. It almost appears that the cable/ball has either popped or broken off the latch. While pulling on the lever you can hear a sliding noise at the latch.
I removed the bottom panel under the bumper but no support there as the latch is covered and not accessed from that location. There is a slight gap from the front under the hood and above the logo but how to get around to this.
How to at least open the hood from the outside. Remember, the cable won't release.
My son's 2007 Honda Civic coupe hood won't open. There's no resistance when pulling the hood release. Either the cable is broken or disconnected from the latch.

View 4 RepliesMy hood has ceased to pop open when I pull the latch from the interior release. I removed the panel to see if the cable came undone from the release lever but it is still intact. From what I can tell, the cable seems to be snapped in the middle. I brought the car to 2 different mechanics, both said they would have to do damage to get under the hood. But I've read online and it seems other people are able to do it.
View 5 RepliesI have a 1995 Ford F-250 7.3 liter Diesel. I can't open the hood with the Hood Latch. It opens to the safety latch but I can't fully unlatch the hood.
View 1 RepliesTrunk latch is stuck open.
View 1 RepliesThe latch thing that you pull on to pop the hood has broken, any other way to open the hood up?
View 24 RepliesNot a great first week of ownership. Tried to open my hood tonite and find there is no tension whatsoever on the hood release lever. On my Corrado, I can pop it over w/ a screwdiver thru the grille, can this be done on a B6? It even looks like there is a cut out between the grille & hood to get at the release, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.
View 5 RepliesWell, hood won't open. How to get it open? The lever inside feels like its pulling nothing, or just starting to pull at the very end.
View 3 RepliesHow to manage to open the hood when it wont "pop" from inside the cabin. There is not enough tension on the cable and seems as though either the cable has been stretched or either came off or broke its retainer under the hood... I noticed "TSB"s but to be honest I dont know what these really are or how they matter...
View 3 RepliesCannot open trunk with remote or switch inside driver's door. Key entry at rear fine. Have checked all fuses. Also, front passenger window will go down with one push of switch but requires constant pull to close. Was working fine. Any connections?
View 1 RepliesI had problems this morning opening my hood, the latch was real tight so pulled it and it released but not all the way. I tried opening the hood but it's stuck and won't even closed either. It's there a trick or some other lever I'm missing? I never had to do it before.
View 1 RepliesPulling the inside hood release cable does indeed move the cable as it always has, but not the hood won't 'pop-up'. opening the hood of my car now is a 2-man operation: one guy pulls-up on the inside hood release lever and holds it up, while 2nd guy reaches fingers under hood front and moves the latch so hood can be lifted. this's proven to be the only way to open the hood. Yesterday we looked closely into the latch internals and observed nothing out of the ordinary - 2 extension springs stretching (apparently) as they should. All latch parts liberally dosed w/ WD-40 to no avail. Why the pop-up doesn't occur anymore ...
View 1 RepliesI recently acquired a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS after my old car was totaled. I love the car but I've already had a problem trying to open the hood. The interior hood release lever does not pop the hood. I took it to Hyundai and they were able to pop it. They told me the bottom of the hood latch was broken! Needless to say I'd like to replace the part myself but I cant figure out how to move the hood latch from in front of the engine.
View 13 RepliesI noticed my hood latch release getting a little stiffer over some time to the point that my hood latch cable stretched out and didn't work. I fixed it by tying a knot in the cable to shorten the length and now it works fine. HOWEVER, it is still getting stiffer. I unhooked the 2 cable peices where they connect under the hood on the driver side to see if they are sticking, they both are smooth. I also latch the release mechanism (without closing the hood) and activated it easily. BUT still when I use it on the hood, it is very stiff.
View 1 RepliesHad a small fender bender the other day Only noticeable damage is my hood doesn't close properly now. Still latches and doesn't seem to pop open, but it's stuck in the position that it would be in after releasing it (after pulling the hood release under the steering wheel). Not sure what's broken. My car is a 2004 Ford Taurus SE.
View 7 RepliesI opened up my hood and now it doesn't close... it seems like the latch isn't locking into place and holding the hood down. I do a lot of car work myself, but after countless hours of trying to figure out why my latch isn't locking shut, I give up. I am planning to take it to a local dealer after I schedule an appointment, but that means that I can't drive for a few days... maybe weeks if they are booked... I don't want the hood to pop up on the highway or anything.
View 24 RepliesI have been having trouble trying to release the lever under the hood on my 2009 Jetta. the interior lever seems to be working but when I attempt to depress the hood lever it won't budge! I like to check my oil on a regular basis and I have never had this challenge before. I'm also worried that if I am able to release it that I will not be able to secure it afterwards, rendering my vehicle inoperable. I am strongly considering just taking it for an oil change and "springing" the dilemma on the garage.
