Passat (B5) :: Engine Oil Pressure Warning Comes On When Driving Down Town
Jun 16, 2007
I drive a 2000 VW Passat 1.8T. The car has about 93K on it. One day I was driving downtown and my ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON telling me low oil pressure STOP THE ENGINE before I could stop the engine the damn thing went dead and wouldn't start back, but it sounded like it wanted to start I never had this happen to me before so I got it towed to a VW dealership they were like I have never seen this happen before so they did what they normally do and came back and said that they cannot fine anything wrong and told me that they have a guy that comes in like twice a week and know everything about those type of car and he should know what the problem is?

I currently have a MK5 Jetta and my wife's van lease is up. I'm looking at picking up a 2001 Wagon 1.8t and giving her the Jetta. It checks out real well, the only issue is the oil pressure warning comes on after about 5-10 minutes of driving. Turn the car off and back on it goes away. He changed the oil when he got it a couple weeks ago, and didn't change the filter, he's taking it to his shop to have it re-done, and he was going to drop the pan and check the screen and pick-up and such. Has this been an issue or what may cause this?

On a city drive <10 minutes I get the STOP Engine warning, and Low oil pressure. I pull over, and my dip stick is dry, NO OIL! My car is just over 20K miles, and we just had it in for the service less than 5 K miles ago. There was no visible oil leaks, nor was there a pool of oil in the driveway.
Had similar problem with my 02, but it had 90K miles.
Is this possibly related to the PCV issue I read in another thread? Or are my seals just leaking? I added oil to get home, and then threw in some stop leak - seal conditioner.

My tire pressure monitor is acting funky again in cold weather. For the past few days when the weather is around 30s i get flat tyre warning when i first start my car. then after drive for about 5 minutes, it goes away. Seems like once the tire warms up the warning disappeared.
I have standard 18" wheels... currently the tire reading from the MFI is 34 front 37 back. I remember i had them set in the summer for 37 front and 42 back. Should I put more air in? is that why?

I have a mk4 Jetta 1.8t. Problem started last night. After I drive for about 15-20 minutes the oil pressure warning light comes on. It doesn't feel any different and my oil is full. Could my pump be going bad? I hear a slight tick near the bottom of the engine on the passenger side. But the car idles fine and drives fine too.

My wife has gotten this message twice in our 2013 Passat, 2.5L SE. Not sure the exact wording of the message, but something to the effect of "Stop engine low oil pressure". The first was about a couple months ago and then again this morning. Both times it was on for about a minute or less and then went off. Obviously, it is a serious issue if real. Both were cold mornings, it being winter and all. We've driven plenty of miles in between and no message and I've never seen it personally.
Oil level is good and we're probably only about 4000 miles since last oil change. Its just weird that the message goes away quickly and was about two months apart.

So i got my new wheels in July, disabled all the TPMS stuff via vagcom and have had no issues or lights.
Well Saturday I start my car and i have a tire pressure low warning lit up in the MFD (no TMPS light lit up just the words in the MFD)
Due to laziness i didn't check anything till today, had the warning every time i started the car
We have just started having cold nights, so I figured i check the PS anyway today and im at 22 PSI all around. Odd that i was notified with no TPMS.
I added air to 32 PSI all around and the warning stayed on until i left the car for about 30 min then the warning was gone.

I had this warning come on a couple of days ago on my 2008 VR6 with 46k miles on it. I wasn't surprised since the temperatures have finally dropped in Wisconsin and the car has not been driven much in the last month. I checked all the tires and they were at 30 PSI so I pumped them all up to 35 PSI, but the warning won't clear. The last time this happened a ride around the block cleared the warning.

So I put the summer rims on the wife's B6 Wagon. Besides breaking out my VAGCOM and turning off this option. The error/warning light is getting annoying

I inherited a Passat wagon abt a month ago and I just got an Oil Pressure Low warning.
Long story short, took it to the mechanic said it was a sludge issue in the oil pick up and that he'll have to drop the oil pan to fix it.
Don't have that to give at this point.
I'm confident I can tackle it myself but I need a DIY guide or the Haynes repair manual to guide me along the way.

I let my car sit for about a month and about a quart of oil leaked out of it. I drove the car and got the "low oil pressure" light and the STOP warning!. I refilled the engine with oil but now every 5 minutes or so i get the stop warning and then i turn the engine off. If I wait I can drive the car another 5 minutes or so before the warning light goes on. What could be wrong?

My B5.5 is about to hit 110K and in the past 12 hours, the STOP! low oil pressure warning light has come on during a right hand turn. Is this an indication issue or a no oil pressure issue?

Is there a reset to the tire pressure warning light? I filled all 4 tires to recommended pressure and the light is still on.

So back in the fall when the clocks needed changing, i changed the clock in the passat, and every so often i'll get in the car and its back an hour. i'll fix it, but then it goes back to being an hour behind. sometimes it takes a few days but it always gets behind an hour. I've tried researching this but found nothing.
When i installed my winter wheels (w/o sensors), the low pressure warning came on, so i disabled TPMS via VAGCOM. everything was fine for a few weeks, but now it says tire pressure too low constantly. I checked with my vagcom and the tpms is still unchecked in can gateway.

I have a 2007 Passat Wlfsburg Edition with 4,300 miles on it. In the message center it stated "Tire Pressure Too Low!" There is also a tire yellow warning light lit. I checked the tire pressure. They were all at 30 psi. I inflated them to 33 psi as stated on the door jamb. The light and message are still there. I checked the owners manual and it doesn't say how to reset it or anything. What should I do?

So tonight I'm driving on I-80 and all of a sudden I hear a thud, the TPMS light comes on and a warning of low tire pressure. I get out to take a lot and the rear left tire is practically flat. Changing the tire was pretty easy once I figured out where everything was in the tray.
So now I'm in the market for a replacement tire as there was a huge hole in tread. I have a about 3000 miles on the car. Would you get a replacement tire that is the same make/model as the rest of the tires, or would you simply get a cheaper replacement? Once I am ready to replace the rest of the tires, I'm not sure if I would replace them with the OEM make/model anyway. At the same time I'm not sure how long the OEM's will last.

I own a 2002 Passat 1.8T. The oil pressure light came on a few weeks ago and I took it in to be looked at. The oil pressure at idle and at 2000 rpm's was fine so they thought it might be the Oil Pressure Sender. Picked up the car and lo and behold, the light continued to come on. Took it back for service. This time the oil pressure levels were lower than spec so, they changed the Oil Pump, tested the pressure and all checked out to be within spec. 15 miles into my drive home, the light was on again. Not sure what to look at now. What to do next?

So last week I got my new smf flywheel installed but it wasn't without issue. While putting everything back together, somehow the plastic side to side shift lever broke. I had already ordered a sigma six shifter so I had them put it in.
Now I picked up my car and had a lot of trouble putting it into first, and ended up in third several times. So after about a mile or two I pulled into a gas station to check it out. While turning at a very slow speed within the gas station, I got a warning on the mfi screen that said something like "low oil pressure! Engine off!"
The engine didn't cut off and the warning went away after a second.
I drive the rest of the way home since everything seemed fine besides the shifter. I checked the oil at home and the dipstick was dry! I couldn't believe it. So this morning i adjusted the shifter and it's super smooth now, then I added a quart of oil. Still barely at the min line so I added another half quart, which finally got it into the middle area. I added the rest of the second quart after that. I did run the engine then let it sit to measure.
Car is at almost 28k. My last oil change was almost 8k ago. Stage 2+ Apr. Hpfp and new cam follower put in 10k miles ago, at 18k. Downpipe put in this January, around 22k miles.
If the dipstick was dry, that would mean i burned at least 3 qts in 8k miles. Is that likely? Or do you think the installer messed something up?
I never got a clear story as to how the shifter broke but these guys are supposed to have a good reputation. I couldn't find any leaks or anything and didn't notice anything that looked out of the ordinary. I'll try to jack up the car and take a look, but I'm dropping it to the dealer to inspect next week as I still have CPO warranty.
I know these engines burn oil but with this low mileage I'm worried either something else is going on, or the installer messed something up and didn't tell me.

So while driving my mom's 99 passat, after a few miles it gives six loud beeps, the BRAKE light comes on, the oil pressure warning light starts flashing, the ABS light flashes, and the tach sits at zero.
Brakes still work, havent tested ABS. there's no noticeable change in performance. I'm assuming this is the CCM and ABS modules on their last breaths.

When it gets cold (about 40 Fahrenheit or less) and I drive the car after it hasn't been driven for a few hours, the temp gauge goes way up and there's no heat. But after a little while I can rev the engine hard and the temp drops and the heat starts blowing warm. The radiator is full with pretty much 100% antifreeze.
