My engine making a deep subwoofer-like sound but it was hard to describe. This morning I took a video and you can instantly hear it, you might need to put headphones on to hear the sound but its very obvious once you do.

View 2 RepliesRecently my Passat has been making this really weird deep subwoofer-like sound when I turn it on... you can hear it from outside and inside the car... and it completely stops once I start driving or turn the car off and back on. What this might be? It seems to come from the right side of the car more than the left.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 Subaru Outback that recently started making an odd noise. This noise is somewhat hard to describe, but sort of sounds like "urrh ah urrh ah" almost like a rubbing noise or a deep squeak (not high pitched). This noise only occurs when I'm braking, starts when I'm slowing down (going below 20 mph) and becomes more pronounced as I reach a full stop. The noise starts out fast (urr ah urr ah urr ah) and slows down as the car slows down (and gets louder as I come to a complete stop. It is more pronounced when I'm braking going down a hill (louder than when I'm stopping on a flat surface). It does NOT do it when I'm braking in reverse, or when I'm braking going up a hill. You also cannot hear the noise outside the car- only inside the cabin.

Now I have to put in a new head unit and install the sub, I am completely lost. What kind of head unit do i get to match the cords already installed?? How do i know it will fit??
View 4 RepliesWhat harnesses or adapters do I need to get my some aftermarket speakers plus my aftermarket subwoofer hooked up. I have a 4 channel for the speakers and a mono for the subwoofer.
Trying to figure out whether to go this route or buy the wiring harnesses and dash kit needed for my old pioneer d3 double din HU and hooking up RCA's that way.
When I am driving my elantra (engine warm), say I pull up to a red light or I am in a 'drive thru' my RPM's will go to under 500 and normally go under 400 which causes the whole car to shake and sound like it will stall. The car also has the issue with the Air Conditioning on that makes the vehicle have a deep rattling sound along with the very low idle which follows with my lights dimming or lightly flickering.

My car has been making this sound for such a long time i didnt notice it until my dad asked the dealer about it and they said 'they didnt hear it' i can get an audio clip if you think it' work. most regular steering around curves, just tight slow turning like into or out of a parking spot. it sounds like its right in the column...
View 7 Replies I purchased back in January my 2013 Passat and today for the first time, I noticed that when I turn my steering when the car is not moving, I hear a clunking sound and I can actually feel the clunk too.
When I'm driving I don't feel or hear anything. It's really when the car is on but not moving.
This is getting annoying because this is the 3rd time something is going wrong with my car.
Going back to the clunking, I was reading that it's a common problem with most VW vehicles.
What it could be. I don't wanna look like an idiot that's been going to the dealer so often for these types of issues.
So everything is tight and aligned and all good, but I'm getting this deep squeaking rub noise coming from my front upper strut mounts, but all the bolts are tight, yet it looks like the metal ring inside the strut tower moves a little up and down when you rock the car a bit. And I can feel the rubbing vibration and movement of the mount when I put my hand on/in the strut tower while the car is rocked.

View 5 RepliesOn the way to work this morning in stop-and-go traffic, I noticed a new, weird noise from my week-old 2012 GTI with less than 500 miles on it.
The noise happens when letting of the gas in gear. Doesn't matter what gear you're in or what the engine speed is. Around a second after getting of the gas, there is a loud, depp bass thump, almost like a subwoofer hit from a close-by car. That's what I originally thought it was, but later determined it's something from my car.
What it could be? An exhaust noise? Something hitting? Is this a common noise on the new GTIs?
I have a 2002 V6 Dodge Dakota that just recently lost pretty much all power. It will not go above 20 mph and has a hard time going up any hills. I was driving on the interstate and initially was having a hard time reaching 65 mph. The truck would roar and then shift and then lose power and shift down a gear. Eventually it lost almost all power and is now barely drive-able. It makes a sound like an ATV at low speeds, kind of a deep humming sound. When I punch the gas in neutral in makes the same sound. I have had problems with it stalling before and am at a complete loss as to the cause.
View 2 RepliesHad drivegear springs installed about 7 months ago or so and recently the front started making a swoosh sound when going over bumps. Took it into the dealership and they told me they tightened some chassis bolts. So I take it home. Problem is still there. So I go back and let them know. I go for a ride along with the manager and he tells me the noise is normal. So now it's not a matter of it being covered under warranty but more of is it a problem at all?
I remember someone telling me it might of been the control arm bushings. I need rubber ones or something. How I should approach this so my car doesn't sound like a 1980's chevy.
I'm getting a clunk sound from my Passat's front left suspension when making turns. I've found info on how to diagnose control arms and I plan to jack the car up tomorrow and check it out. But how would I diagnose a tie rod end problem?

Do the parking brake make an audible sound when engaged disengaged. I noticed this for the first time but only while the drivers door was open. Sound like a motor running for about 3 seconds when you turn the break on and off. Is this normal?
View 5 RepliesWhenever I am in a parking lot turning into parking spaces or driving slowly around or even turning into my driveway I have a deep creaking type sound that sounds awful. It's either the suspension going south, something with one of the strut bars or the bigger diameter mid pipe making contact with something when the car is turning. Car is noise free otherwise even over soles bumps, just happens to sound nasty when making turn ins going 2-5 mph.

We do plan on bringing it to our local VW dealers attention at next scheduled oil change. I started getting this noise as well about a month ago. My passengers commented about sounding like someone sawing inside the dashboard. I do like the percolating description better...
This is different than the other "running water" sound that you get when initially turning the car on. I was told that was normal.... This percolating sound happens while driving and I noticed that it does have the pattern of happening when at slow speeds or stopped in traffic (after driving fast for a while).
I know that VW's are known for funky problems. Sometimes when it has recently rained heavily, the brakes will make a crunching sound when I press the pedal down, and there is also increased pressure, as if there is water stuck somewhere. It will drive fine for a few minutes and then will start shuddering, spewing exhaust, and nearly stalling. The engine light will often flash, and for this reason I brought it into my mechanic who is a VW specialist. It was first diagnosed as a faulty engine coil, and that was replaced. The problem came back repeatedly and he said I would have to wait until it "got worse" for him to figure it out. I've been riding it out since then, and once I get to my destination and the car sits for a little bit (usually 4+ hours), it runs fine again. The rainy season has started so I'm a little worried about this happening on a regular basis. This has never happened in dry weather.
View 12 Replies Yesterday evening I started up my 2008 variant 3.6 4motion after it had been sitting for about 24 hours. It started up right away but immediately started making a clanging racket that sounded just like an old Mercedes Diesel that needs a tuneup. It was such a loud and odd noise that at first I thought it was another car or truck pulled up next to me!
After about 5-10 seconds it settled down and idled normally--no warning lights, no leaks, no performance issues. I took it on a ~7 mile mixed freeway and surface streets drive with A/C off and on and it ran like a champ, then it sat again for a couple of hours before the return trip and started up & got us home with no problem.
It definitely wasn't the normal injector noise and it wasn't the emissions SAI (Secondary Air Injection) pump either. Since it's a 2008 (and since it's still running) I'm ruling out the oil pump bolt. The accessory v-belt and tensioner look fine and engine oil level/pressure are good, too.
We're experiencing our first real hot weather of the summer (low 90s) and it had been baking in the sun all day, so I'm wondering if the temperature caused pinging on startup before the ECU adapted?
Today, of course, it was normal. Have any other 3.6 drivers ever had this happen?
For those with Climatronic, you would have probably heard the noise it makes when it's adjusting vents etc on start up....like a deep ticking of sorts. Well, just recently that same type of noise is coming from the rear compartment of the car and only when coming to a stop or sitting at a light.
