Passat (B5) :: Do 1.8T Require 91 Octane?
Apr 1, 2011
Just got a 2004 1.8T wagon, but it didn't have an owners manual. Do I need 91 octane? Is a VW dealer the only place for a spare key? Can you steer me to a catalog for bling (grille) and other mods?

I have just purchased a 2000 Passat 1.8 mfg 2/29/2000. I have no keys. I will have to get keys made and want to know if they require special programming. Dealer said its on fence maybe maybe not. Depends on when built. Any other info about what to look for would be nice. I look forward to being able to contribute in the future. For now I'm a newbie.

Was wondering if there would be any negative effect on the performance (or engine) of my V8 Touareg if I start filling up with 90 Octane instead of the more expensive 93 Octane available locally in Puerto Rico. We only have 87, 90 and 93 Octane to choose from. There is a German warning label on the inside of the filler door that says something about 91 Octane. I don't read German, but I'm assuming that it means not to use anything lower than 91 Octane fuel.

I own a Lexus IS250 which on the gas cap says you must use high octane gas. My question is, do you REALLY have to use High octane everytime you gas up or can you safely use mid grade? Say every other time without damaging anything?

2006 ranger v6 3.0L mfi .. an I switch to 85 octane? it's not a flex fuel vehicle. would there be any problems doing this? I guess if they use it at high altitudes like Denver then there would not be any harm using it at sea level as long as the engine doesn't ping with predetonation.

I am looking at an 05 Corolla with the 2zzge. I am wondering if can run regular gas in a pinch with octane booster? Some areas where I travel only have regular fuel.

I just recently brought my 2006 subaru outback (v6) to the shop. The men, whom I've know and trust, told me there's too much carbon in the engine - it's got 80k on it - and that I should use Super the next two times I fill the tank. I went to an Irving station and put in Premium Octane. I only put in 3 gallons, and now the gas jerks upon pressing the gas. The check engine light came on, the SPORTS light is blinking fast and the CRUISE light is blinking as well. It sounds bad and when I put it in/out of park, I hear a little bit of grinding. Is this common for putting in new higher quality gas? Am I destroying something?? Should I not have put in premium?

Just filled up with Shell V-Power 91 Octane Fuel for the first time in my MKVI Golf 2.5
I know 91 isn't needed in this car but I like filling up with good fuel every once in a while.
After filling up my check engine light came on right away, also my engine wont allow me to go over 3k RPM.
Why did this happen and what can I do to fix it?

Question: Does the the VAQ differential require regular maintenance/changing of the oil?
I know I've seen this question discussed, but the answer I've always seen was that it does not. I believe that this answer comes from watching the Borg Warner powerpoint video, where the presenter claims the differential is maintenance free.
While reading the Maintenance Service Manual, I noticed that VW does in fact require servicing of the VAQ every three years, and gives the procedure for doing so.

2004 BMW 330i 140k miles.
We first noticed this problem a year or so ago. At first, it happened only on cool mornings if the car had been parked outside. The cold car would require 3-4,000 RPM to move, forward or reverse. After about one minute or 3-4 blocks, the transmission worked perfectly at the touch of the throttle for the rest of the day.
It only happens about half the time. Other times, even if cool and after being parked for days, the transmission engages normally from idle and up.
Once recently, it deviated from this pattern. After sitting overnight, it started and pulled into the garage normally. I shut it off for a couple of minutes to place ramps in front of the tires and restarted the car. It did not want to move on the second start. It took 3500 RPM to climb the ramps. That was scary. The car has never suddenly engaged, but if it had suddenly engaged at that moment, it would have shot me through the front of the garage.
Last week I took it to the transmission specialty shop with the best reviews in town. As life would have it, he kept it three days, driving it four times, and it worked perfectly each time he drove it. Fluid looks fine (replaced at 120k miles) and fluid level is perfect. No codes stored in transmission computer.
I thought it was intermittently draining the torque converter until this last time when it failed after being shut off for only a couple of minutes.
The transmission guy is not interested in rebuilding the transmission even if I wanted to try it. He worries that because he does not know what is causing the problem.

I had my starter replaced today and now am hearing some weird rattling sounds coming from front tires. Do you need to remove any of the tires to get to the starter? I thought I read that somewhere.

My GX pops up message to require service, the car just on 14,500 miles. I checked one dealer website, the service does not even include oil change. So the question is what service should I do for 15k?

I bought a 2016 ES 350 last month.
The doors (especially the rear doors) require quite a solid push to close them, or they just come to within an inch or so of closing and don't close all the way.
Want to know if this is a problem with the production of my car in particular, or if the model is just like this.

I have the subject truck and do my own oil changes. I see that the front end has sealed ball joints and doesn't require lubrication.
Do the universal joints on the drive shaft or any other components require lubrication? 2014 F150 XLT ....
