Passat (B5) :: Disabling Daytime Running Lights?
Aug 15, 2006
Let me start off by saying I have removed the TFL pin and I am doing it on the euroswitch. But the suckers still keep coming here is the catch I have Xenons installed on my car and the bulbs are not the cheapest to replace. I installed the Xenons from an audi TT. Also if I need a VAG computer or tech I got acces to that too.

My 2013 Jetta lease goes back to the dealer tomorrow. There was absolutely no way to disable the daytime running lights with VCDS. Yanking the bulb was the only way to disable them. Luckily, yanking the bulbs didn't present a light bulb error on the dashboard, so I was fine with that.
I will be getting a 2015 Passat to replace the 2013 Jetta and was wondering if it is possible to disable the daytime running lights with VCDS? If so great!
If not, does yanking the bulb present a light bulb error on the dashboard?

Is it possible if Lexus can make it so when the Daytime running lights are on that the tail lights come on? It appears MASS has just passed a law when it is raining and you have your windshield wipers on you have to have your lights on...I leave mine on Auto and have auto windshield wipers so kinda takes away the purpose if I have to turn my lights all the way on each time.

I live in Canada and a few months ago I purchased a used 2011 Prius III from a Dodge dealer in Arizona. Part of the Canadian RIV import requirements was to have daytime running lights installed in the car. I figured since I'd have Canadian Tire do it because they're also the ones doing the provincial and federal inspections. So they installed a module something like this: Daytime Running Light System | Canadian Tire

I've tried it every way I can think of and I can't get my daytime running lights to turn off. I have the base model gti so I don't have buttons on my steering wheel. the manual says to push the left wand down and to the back. then turn on the ignition for three seconds......doesn't do anything. I am thinking they left out a step or forgot something counting wise?

I've never been a fan of daytime running lights, useless option that shortens the life of the bulbs. My Audi A8L had an option in the MMI that would allow you to turn the DRL's off. Is there a similar option on the 04 Phaeton W12? Or is there a fuse I can pull? Or is VAG-COM the only way (I don't have one yet - not in my immediate budget)?

How to disable DRL-
1) Find the little black box to the right of the battery.
2) Remove cover
3) Pull the smaller of the 3 middle Relay/fuse out.
Actually if the engine was on, it would feel hot to touch, because the resister is taking some of the load from the DRL. The other two Relays are for the coolant fans + Brake.

I got my LED DRL kit today, the harness has 3 wires red(+), black(-), and white(for connect to (+) of headlight so when headlight on the drl will go off). So I will connect black wire to negative of battery or ground, red wire to ACC or ign. So my question is how can I find ACC and how can I connect white wire to (+) of headlights? My led drl kit is similar with the kit in the link: [URL] ...

I just picked up a Camry SE the other day and noticed that there are no daytime running/driving lights. I had them on my '05 Camry LE but this '12 SE doesn't seem to have them. Are my bulbs just out? Or do they not come with DRLs anymore? The switch in the car has "Lights On, Side lights, Auto, and No DRL." I always leave it on Auto.

Just got 2012 TDI. Can't turn off Daytime Running Lights. Was able to do it with menu option with my 2011. Manual says something about pull turn signal lever back & down & turn on ignition for 3 sec, but couldn't get to work. Took to dealer, they fooled with it, hooked up computer, no luck. Looks like turning off DRLs not an option. Is this new Federal reg for 2012?

I've recently purchased a new R and to have it legally registered in Canada I have to change it so that the daytime running lights come on automatically when the car starts and the odometer must read in km per hour.
I'm assuming a lot of this can simply be done with a vagcom tool but I'm curious if there's going to be some wiring I have to deal with to get the lights going?
I've searched all over the place and can't find any clear info with regards to turning the DRL's on. It seems everybody wants to turn them off or the threads are about another platform. I'd rather not have to pay the stealership to do this to be honest.

Is there any chance to remove the Day Time Running lights, connect and LED strip and still use the parking brake functionality and have it automatically switch to the low lights (HID) and still use the LED strip?

One of my DRLs was out, so I changed both per recommendation. The notification light on my dashboard went away, but now both DRLs are out. All other lights are working fine.
